(New Music Weekend Intro)
Who’s coming up! A Band out of Baltimore, a group that sounds like Peter Gabriel, and so many Deluxe Albums out now or upcoming – let’s get into it.
(Countdown Video)
New Music Weekend:
- First up – it’s Turnstile and they’re from Bawlmer, hon. (“Never Enough”) I worked in Baltimore radio for nearly 2 years. Long enough to learn that they have a distinct culture with very unique things such as the “Crabs for Christmas” song (clip) FYI – That’s David DeBoy singing that tune, not Turnstile. I should play another one from them (“Seeing Stars”) The song there is “Seeing Stars” but it’s actually a part of a double music video with the other song being “Birds.” I’ll have that one on my Spotify playlist which can be found at brentevans.net. But I will play a clip of the song being pushed by Spotify today and that one is called “Dull” (clip) Baltimore loves their Orioles, Edgar Allen Poe, Old Bay Seasoning on anything and everything, and Turnsile should be added to that list – let’s hear more of the “Dull” song (clip)
- British band Elbow who I believe sound a lot like Peter Gabriel (“Mercy Street”) Sounds like Peter, right? It’s a Peter song but it’s done by Elbow on Peter Gabriel’s Scratch My Back And I’ll Scratch Yours album (“Mirrorball”) and that’s Peter doing an Elbow song. I need to get back to my original statement. Let’s play a new song from Elbow (clip) New Elbow- they are following up their 2024 album – AUDIO VERTIGO with a Deluxe version. 12 from the original album and 4 new additional tracks – you just heard “Timber”. Go listen to the entire album, close your eyes, and just try and tell me that you don’t hear Peter Gabriel (“Hi There”)
- Several quick hits of new music: the Portland, Oregon-based band Portugal. The Man released a 4-pack of songs for an EP album. The song that I liked was “Silver Spoons.” That reminds me of that Ricky Schoder TV show from the 80s. Alfonso was in that, Jason Bateman, too. Stick to the music. // With Teddy Swims, I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Part 1 arrived in 2023, while Part 2 dropped in January 2025. And now – the complete edition of I’ve Tried Everything but Therapy is due out June 27th. That edition will feature 6 new tracks, including the recently released “God Went Crazy” // Addison Rae, The Ting Tings, Pulp, Mother Mother, and Lil Wayne – all new albums out // The last time we got new music from Sabrina Carpenter, it was in February for the Deluxe version release of her Short n’ Sweet album. But now we have “Manchild” and, of course, there’s a fun video to go along with it (clip)
Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
