New Music Weekend:

  • For this first album, I have to admit, I had never really dug into this artist before: Tyler Childers (chill-ders) (“Whitehorse Road” clip) But when I did, it was the Purgatory album that I wanted to keep going back and listening to. (“I Swear (to God” clip) And now – we have a new album that was released: Snipe Hunter (“Nose on the Grindstone” clip) With this album’s set of songs, they appear to be leaning more into a stripped-back, raw, and acoustic sound. (“Watch Out” clip) I do like that “Watch Out” song – it’s got a Zeppelin-ish intro plus the song has a heavier, more distorted feel to it. Now, the song being pushed by Spotify is “Eatin’ Big Time” (song clip) That’s the album opener and I’ve read a review describing it as “a thick cut of greasy boogie-blues.” So far – big thumbs up for the Snipe Hunter album which is 13 tracks of pure Tyler Childers, who very much appears to be one of the most compelling voices in modern music (“Down Under”).
  • This past Monday, Tyler the Creator dropped his 9th studio album called: Don’t Tap The Glass. I’m a little disappointed in him – not because of the album, but the day of the drop – a Monday. He’s the one that said he wanted to bring back new music releases on Tuesdays, which is a throwback that I applaud as well. (“Ring Ring Ring”) That’s the song that I locked in on “Ring Ring Ring” The album is quick one – only 28 minutes long for 10 songs. Half of them are under 3 minutes, but it’s a fun album – like an energetic dancefloor experience. (“Sugar on My Tongue”). Rule #1 that he instructs for this album can be found in the beginning of track 1: (clip of “Body Movement. No sitting still.” clip from “Big Poe” song). I did sorta find myself bopping along when I did the dishes the other night. By the way, I love the cover of that album, which you saw on each song clip. That would be a fun Halloween costume. //
  • Several quick hits of new music: When I think of Madonna – I still have old school songs in my head (“Material Girl”) Anyway – new album from the Queen of Pop appears to be a return to her electronic era like Ray of Light. New album is called: Veronica Electronica // Tame Impala released their first solo music in 5 years with the song “End of Summer” – it almost counts as an album since it’s over 7 minutes long. Otherwise, actual albums of every flavor are out this weekend with GWAR, Alice Cooper, FITZ and The Tantrums, Folk Bitch Trio – that last one was fun to say. // This little guy – sombr – has another song out. I say little guy jokingly because he’s only 19. In person, I would clearly look up to him. He’s 6′ 5″. I might even call him sir. (clip of “undressed” song) My son and I have enjoyed the past songs released from him, so this new one is exciting to add to the mix. I’m still hoping for a whole album though – sombr. In the meantime, here’s the new one called “12 to 12” (song clip)

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Weekend. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
