MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”
(Music Cut #1)
By March 23rd of 1993…
one band was showing just how weird the ’90s could get.
Primus
and their song
“My Name Is Mud.”
(Music Cut #2)
The title sounds simple.
Almost silly.
“My Name Is Mud.”
But the song is more like—
a five-minute bass-driven story
about a backwoods murder.
(Music Cut #3)
It follows a character named Mud,
who kills a friend
over what he calls
a “common spat.”
And at the end, you hear:
“Where you goin’, city boy?”
That’s a sample
from the film
Deliverance.
(Music Cut #4)
LYRIC OF THE DAY:
“Not to be confused with Bill or Jack or Pete or Dennis
My name is Mud, it’s always been.” – Primus
