New Music Weekend / August 01-03, 2025
(New Music Weekend Intro)
Happy Weekend – for me it’s the weekend that will be bringing my vacation to an end. So, the entire weekend feels like a Monday. (“Office Space” clip of “Someone’s got the case of the Mondays”) Maybe not that bad.
Who’s coming up! DE’WAYNE, Haley Williams, and 3 of my favorite modern day dudes to listen to
(Countdown Video)
New Music Weekend:
- First – I realize that we just said good-bye to July and now August is officially here. BUT – I’m still going to talk about june (musical opener of “june”) Title track of the latest album drop from DE’WAYNE – is called: june (more of “june”) I’m definitely getting some Prince vibes from that one. BUT – with the opening track, “lady lady” – I’m feeling strong Lenny Kravitz vibes (“lady lady” clip) Such a great table setter for the rest of the album. DE’WAYNE is putting funk on the forefront with his signature rock, pop, and punk energy. (“… love raider” clip) “… love raider” is the closer for the album, which makes the album a fantastic listen from top to bottom. 11 songs in all with undeniable grooves. Another song that I find myself going back to again and again is the one that toes the line of “glam rock” territory. Here’s “highway robbery” (song clip)
- This past week, Hayley Williams surprised us with 17 new solo songs, but made them super exclusive through her website and her hair dye brand. But then – they mysteriously disappeared from her website. (“Glum”) Whew – good news. They’re back and very much available on all the streaming platforms. However, Hayley is stressing that these songs do NOT consitute a new album. They are 17 individual singles with no official tracklist order. Fans can then assemble them into whatever sequence they please. (“Ice in My OJ”) Little more bite in that song – “Ice in My OJ” – when compared to the sampling it originated from: the “Jumping Inside” song via a Christian band, which Hayley was briefly in at age 13. (“Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party”) Fans have dubbed this collection of songs as the “Ego” project but to actually hear them all together, you’ll have to put them into a playlist, because again they were all released as individual songs. They are clearly 17 distinct tracks that can stand alone, showcasing wildly varying lyrics and sounds. Here’s another example with a song that has a raw, acoustic feel to it: “Blood Bros” (clip)
- Several quick hits of new music: Australian indie-pop trio – Blusher – has released a 6-pack of songs under the EP title – RACER. Definitely worth checking out if you want something light and poppy // For the past year, Chappel Roan has been performing live the song “The Subway” which quickly became a fan favorite – and now it’s been released as a standalone single. No word yet on a whole new album yet, but she has claimed before that it’s far, far off. // Three dudes that I always tune in to have dropped new songs. Bryce Fox has released a stripped down verison of his “World’s on Fire” song (clip) Henrik gave us another song which is off of his first solo album – North Main Street which comes out September 5th – I’ll be digging deaper into that for that weekend’s music video. In the meantime, here’s “interlocking” (clip) and finally, Jake Bugg has a deluxe edition of his 2024 album, A Modern Day Distraction coming out in October – the 24th to be exact. There will be four new tracks featured and today we have one of them called “Never Said Goodbye” (clip)
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
