New Music Weekend / 8/15-8/17/25
(New Music Weekend Intro)
Happy Weekend – it’s still hot, still very much summer. I apologize for all the Pumpkin Spice talk last weekend. I believe it kicked off a mini heatwave in my area, so I’ll just zip it for the time being.
Who’s coming up – Joey Valence & Brae, Goose (again) – you’ll see why, Maroon 5 and more!
(Countdown Video)
New Music Weekend:
- First up – it’s a hip-hop duo from Pennsylvania – Joey Valence & Brae (“OK” clip) By now, I’m pretty sure that they have grown tired of hearing about the old-school ’90s Beastie Boys sound that they emit, BUT – I love the Beastie Boys and that’s what got me hooked on these guys (“Obi Wan High Ground” clip from “Punk Tact!cs”) The pop-culture references that they do are tremendous. And now – the boys are back with their third studio album and their first one on a big boy label – RCA Records. It don’t matter though – they deliver (“Play some Gaga” clip from “Bust Down”) According to Joey Valence, the album has a lot of “Lady Gaga influence” and is a “very club-centered album.” It’s called – Hyperyouth (“Hyperyouth” clip) That’s the title track and album opener. Another one from this album that was released a couple months ago and had a video to go along with it was “Wassup” (clip of “Wassup”) Super fun song to blast there. You just find yourself bopping along to it. Me – I can’t. People would point and shake their head. One more song to mention – but please know that there are plenty more to enjoy off this album – however, another one that’s hooked me is the one with Rebecca Black – “See U Dance” (clip of “See U Dance”)
- Do you believe in Déjà vu? it’s Goose . . . again (clip of “Royal”) I played that song “Royal” last weekend because it was new without a peep of any new album on the way. In fact, I thought it would be a part of a deluxe version of their Everything Must Go album which came out this past April (“Everything Must Go” clip) I was very wrong as Goose has since surprised us all by releasing a whole new album called: Chain Yer Dragon. They were also guest performers this past week on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (Tonight show clip) I’m not mad, but I don’t believe Jimmy talked about them last weekend. No hard feelings, Goose. Sorta. (clip of “Madalena”) Yes – that was the song performed by Goose on The Tonight Show and it’s the one being highlighted on Spotify. (clip of “Hot Love & The Lazy Poet”) Opening track – “Hot Love & The Lazy Poet” – has a groovy, upbeat feel along with a great rock & roll swagger – it’s also an ideal table setter for the rest of the album. Another one that I enjoyed and Goose fans have been waiting for is the studio version of “Turbulence & The Night Rays” (clip of “Turbulence & The Night Rays”) That track has been a live staple with Goose concerts and fans have debated the song’s meaning for years, but now with the studio version – let the overanalyzing begin. Be sure to go and enjoy Goose and their fifth studio album – 2nd full-length release of 2025! Again, the album is called: Chain Yer Dragon. //
- Several quick hits of new music: one of my favorites – Matt Berninger teamed up with Ronboy for a new song “Disaster”. Ronboy’s vocals are layered over the track, and Matt Berninger comes in with his signature baritone voice. My Spotify playlist has this one included of course. The link is at brentevans.net (flash card) // Five new albums to check out this weekend: Rise Against, a live one from Radiohead, a reissue from The Cranberries, Chance the Rapper, and Conan Gray // Not going to forget Maroon 5 like my radio station program director did back in 2002 (“Harder to Breathe” clip) He didn’t believe in the record, so I was allowed to take the CD home with me. It was the radio station’s only copy. That album – Songs About Jane – ridiculously huge. I had to go home and get it, so we could record the music into the system for the radio station. Again, this was 2002. I’m old. (“This Love”) Today though, we have Maroon 5 dropping a whole new album called: Love is Like. It’s a quick one – nearly 28 minutes worth of music spread out over 10 songs. Collaborations with Lisa from Blackpink, Sexyy Red, and on the title track song, you get Lil Wayne (clip of “Love is Like”)
That’s it for New Music Weekend!
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
