Who Got Fired After Not Playing Counting Crows’ “Mr. Jones”?

MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Opening of Mr. Jones)

Climbing the charts back in 1994, on January 15th,
was the Counting Crows with “Mr. Jones.”

(Music Cut 2 — verse settles in)

By the way, this is the only song on
August and Everything After
where the band’s original drummer, Steve Bowman, didn’t play.

Bowman later said he hated the song —
and quote “I didn’t sign up to play country music.”

Later that year – he was fired.

Also, Adam Duritz struggled mightily with the vocals on this song —
recording take after take, across multiple studios, before it finally felt right.

LYRIC OF THE DAY:
“But when everybody loves me
I wanna be just about as happy as I can be.”
