MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Music Cut #1 – opening guitar of “Seasons in the Abyss”)

Released on this day in 1990…

Slayer gave us their fifth album…

Seasons in the Abyss

(Music Cut #2 – “Seasons in the Abyss,” heavier section)

The album’s title track took the band somewhere pretty unexpected.

Producer Rick Rubin had an idea for the music video.

He sent Slayer…

all the way to Egypt.

(Music Cut #3 – official music video, pyramids footage)

That’s Slayer…

performing in front of the Great Pyramids of Giza.

And according to guitarist Kerry King…

they got access to some of those locations…

by bribing people…

with cigarettes…

and pornography.

(Music Cut #4 – more official music video)

LYRIC OF THE DAY:
“Close your eyes
Look deep in your soul
Step outside yourself
And let your mind go.” – Slayer “Seasons in the Abyss“
