Goal Setting on a Monday with James Clear & Steven Kotler / Meditation tally = 25 days / Marcus Aurelius quote

morning babble / Monday 07-25-22

25 days of meditating. . . in a row. Today, Sam Harris taught me: “No matter how stressful or busy your day might feel, you can always “put a smile in your mind” in the present moment”

I use the “Waking Up” app and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have not worked out or ran since my U of D 5k run on June 5th.

GOAL SETTING MONDAY & REVIEW –

Yesterday, I was finally clearing out some emails and was drilling through some James Clear ones. His newsletters really are the best. Anyway – I retweeted the following:

“A surefire way to make a bad situation worse is to continue replaying it in your mind.

The damage is done. The only thing that matters now is making the best choice given your current position.

Next play mentality.” – James Clear

Don’t dwell – GO!

I’m also wrapping up listening to the audiobook – The Art of Impossible by Steven Kotler

Reminded me of several ideas, but a key one in setting goals for the day is you begin it by “Eating the Frog” – I believe that was a Mark Twain quote, too.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Frightened of change? But what can exist without it?” – by Marcus Aurelius

Third Man Records – waiting on some vinyl / New Music Friday – let’s simply declare it: Jack White Day!

morning babble / Friday 07-22-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

I won’t lie . . . I’m bummed. I didn’t get the new Jack White album – Entering Heaven Alive -on vinyl prior to the digital release today. I told you that I was spoiled before with his first album – Fear of the Dawn – it arrived on the Tuesday before.

163 days until EXIT PLAN

Via Morning Brew – daily email I receive – I learned that Queen just became the first musical act to sell 7 million copies of an individual album in the UK. That record, the band’s first Greatest Hits collection released in 1981, is now owned by one in every four UK households. This is the album that includes “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “We Are the Champions.”

New Music Friday:

  • New Jack White – full album drop of Entering Heaven Alive. Over 40 minutes of new tunes, spread out over 11 tracks. We already got earlier singles from this album: “If I Die Tomorrow”, “Love Is Selfish” and “Queen of the Bees”. And again, this is his 2nd album of 2022 – Fear of the Dawn being the first.
  • Beyoncé’s new album isn’t out until next Friday (July 29th), but things are slowly leaking out like the track list of her 16 songs. But also the album cover which features her sitting on top of a silver horse. She’s wearing silver spikes, silver heels . . . well here it is. (Picture) So again, next Friday, new Beyonce album called Renaissance – where we can hear new songs like “America Has a Problem,” “Alien Superstar,” and “Thique.”
  • This one snuck up on me and it shouldn’t have – new Ben Harper and it’s a whole album release, Bloodline Maintenance. We already got the new song, “We Need To Talk About It.” The new song I heard today was “Need to Know Basis” – I enjoyed it and dug a little deeper. New Album. That’s on my playlist for today.
  • Billie Eilish has released two new songs: “TV” and “The 30th.” Pitchfork’s Mathew Strauss was writing about this 2-pack of songs and highlighted where: Eilish sings, ‘The internet’s gone wild watching movie stars on trial/While they’re overturning Roe v. Wade.’
  • 7th Studio Album from Slipknot has been announced: The End, So Far. We’ll get the full album on September 30th. The band has also shared a new single called “The Dying Song (Time to Sing)” and there’s a video – a scary one.
  • Last night, Megan Thee Stallion along with Future released a naughty, fun song called “Pressurelicious.” Both artists are heard celebrating strong and confident women from two different perspectives — Megan as the woman and Future as a loving and supportive partner.

The Upside-down Pineapple / Where’s Brodie? / SpongeBob SquarePants quote

morning babble / Thursday 07-21-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

HAPPY FRIDAY EVE!

Where’s Brodie? Wearing his pineapple booties so he doesn’t slip n slide across the kitchen floor.

Pineapples . . . not so innocent. A symbol that has been around for centuries, the upside down pineapple has a long and varied history. It is most commonly associated with hospitality and welcome. In fact, it is often used as a sign or decoration in hotels, restaurants, and other places where guests are welcomed.

Some believe that the upside down pineapple originated from Hawaii. The state is known for its pineapple plantations, and the upside down pineapple is said to represent the locals’ friendly hospitality.

If you see a pineapple upside down, it could also mean that there is an upcoming swinger party. The symbol has been associated with swingers for years and continues to be used in public areas today.

Pineapple meaning—sexually—is about appreciation for those who choose to join in on the fun. It’s not just about sex, but rather love and connection with others, whether they be swinging couples or single people looking to get involved.

Upside down pineapple cake – brings a whole new meaning

Just to follow up on my banter from Tuesday – it was good day. I do believe my daily meditation practice is helping me through this though. I find myself – pausing more. Deep breaths. Focusing on what’s unfolding and not allowing it to spiral out of control.

Today – today is definitely a good day. A hard one, but my son is helping me all day, so I am very excited about that.

Not Monday, but instead Tuesday / Nice hat. / Carrie Fisher quote

morning babble / Tuesday 07-19-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Tuesday – I always joke about it not being Monday. BUT – this is always one of my toughest days. I attack on Monday and lay out some good groundwork. Since a good amount of goals were hit on Monday, expectations are then set for Tuesday. However, I typically hit the road on Tuesdays and that’s when things can go awry. I find myself by the end of Tuesdays – screaming for Fridays. I’m not trying to be a downer. I’m just trying to figure it out. I don’t want it to be like that. I do know that dinner tonight is pasta and wine – that always makes me smile.

Good hat day – they happen / reached out and picked on my hat – sweat marks

PODCAST TUESDAY!

I listened to a lot of podcasts again, but none were worthy of me saying “Hey – go check this one out.” Various issues – accent / host had poor delivery with questions to the guests / Another host threw out too many big words

No more baseball games / No more swim meets – summer is almost over

A friend of my son’s – so, this kid was like 12 (Cohen) – he was wearing a t-shirt that said “I love hot moms”. There is a very small window of time when that’s so cute. Could you imagine me wearing that to the meet?

Run the Jewels had new music on FRIDAY!!!!! It was “Terrible 2’s” by DJ Premier, but it most definitely featured Run the Jewels

GOAL SETTING MONDAY & REVIEW –

Meditate Every Day!

All month – the goal is daily meditation. I’m officially signed up through the Waking Up app – it’s from Sam Harris – author, philosopher, podcaster, not the singer.

Please subscribe on YouTube and spread the Babble wherever you can – Thank you!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“I never stop reading. I read everything, and I read every day. If you never read anything, be curious. Curiosity is the true foundation of education, reading things that we’ve factually already agreed on, and I love reading books. With that said, it’s more important that you ask the question ‘why.’” – by Killer Mike

3-Day Fast: That’s a wrap (taco) / New Music Friday: Lizzo, Death Cab for Cutie, Pink / Zach de la Rocha quote

morning babble / Friday 07-15-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Fast is over

Just a quick recap of the 3-Day Fast. Went well. I thoroughly enjoy them too. Again, that was my 19th month in a row of having a 3-Day Fast. I honestly look forward to them. It’s not just a physical reset, but a mindful one, too. More self-control. Except with Peanut Butter.

170 days until EXIT PLAN

Last weekend, Rage Against the Machine performed for the first time live in 11 years. I couldn’t make it out that way. BUT – apparently, lead singer – Zach hurt himself during the 2nd concert in Chicago and had to sit during parts of the show. No further updates, but they appear to be marching onwards. By the way, their opener is Run the Jewels

New Music Friday:

  • Full record drop today from Lizzo – it’s her 4th studio album and called Special. We already got the songs: “About Damn Time” and “Grrrls” (no I, 3 R’s). Apparently when she was writing the album, she started out with around 200 songs – we got 12 of them – about 35 minutes of music. It appears that they are pushing “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)” as the latest single. Jumping around, I listened to “Naked” because . . . naked? “Break Up Twice” which was produced by Mark Ronson. “Everybody’s Gay” and “Birthday Girl” – good ones, too.
  • We got another new song today from Death Cab (for Cutie). It’s called “Here to Forever” and there’s a video out as well. (you just saw a little blip of it). The band’s 10th album – Asphalt Meadows is due out Sept. 16th. I’ve said this before but Death Cab holds a special place in my heart. Their album PLANS was the first album I ever downloaded onto my iPod, which is now extinct. I listened to the junk out of that album though.
  • We got the third single from Calvin Harris’ upcoming LP: Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 — full album drop on Aug. 5th. Today’s new track is called “Stay with Me” and features Halsey, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams. Not too shabby. The video at the time of this recording was not fully released yet. The majority of you could probably go catch it now though by clicking here. With Halsey, Timberlake, and Pharrell – you gotta have a video.
  • Lastly, Pink dropped her latest song “Irrelevant”. Certain court decision got her mad. She teased the song earlier this week with postings on social media. Napkin with scribbled out lyrics. Statement of “Woke up. Got heated. Wrote song.” It’s a good song. That’s all I’m saying. “Irrelevant” by Pink.

Day 2 of the 3-Day is underway. Hardest and longest day. Typically, I start getting a headache between Day 2 night and Day 3 morning/late morning

6:23pm on THURSDAY – I’m free

I have a bad feeling about this.

Got home yesterday and interrupted my wife from doing her paper. I explained that I need a punching bag. I then proceeded to tell her stories of the day. Feel bad now. I just wanted to vent, but it’s the same old stories – just mix around the characters.

YES – 13 days in a row
