It’s Winds-day said the Pooh bear / Got a Charcuterie Board! / Jim Rohn quote

morning babble / Wednesday 02-02-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

“It’s Winds-Day” said Pooh Bear to Piglet. Remember that? It was a windy on a Wednesday. Winnie the Pooh told a funny. Lethargic – good word on how I’m feeling. Trying to crank it up. Listening to my music. Trying to envision a good day ahead.

I’ve got some podcasts lined up. Also, there’s a new book to listen to: I think I’m rolling with Steve Martin’s Born Standing Up. I’ve got a couple options, but that one might win out.

I caught an Instagram post from James Clear: It was actually his Monday Morning Question, but it didn’t pop up to me until yesterday afternoon. Anyway, he writes:

What are the 1-2 things that if you get them done today, you’ll go to bed content?

I listed under the “what would make today great” – a sense of accomplishment

Charcuterie Board – Thank you, Toni – Greatly appreciated and greatly enjoyed!

Musical battles going on in the news –

  1. Spotify – Joe Rogan vs. Neil Young / Uncomfortable weighing in on this one because it just gets way too political. BUT – all I’m saying, I love the ‘Godfather of Grunge’.
  2. Taylor Swift vs. Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) He did apologize to Swift after saying she “doesn’t write her own songs” in a recent interview. He claimed it was taken out of context and used as clickbait.

New Music Friday:

  • Kanye West announced via his Instagram that Donda 2 is coming out next month. This new album will be executive produced by Future and apparently released on February 22nd. Off of that album is a new single with The Game – it’s called “Eazy”. Kanye mad. That Pete Davidson line – I’m with Charlamagne (shar la maine) Tha God on this one. corny as hell,” he said. “I didn’t like it. What happened to Jesus? What happened to God? You weren’t even cursing on your records and now all of a sudden you wanna beat up Pete Davidson?”
  • Michael Buble has a new single out – ‘I’ll Never Not Love You’ which is off of his 11th studio album called Higher and that is out on March 25th. It’s a mix of classic songs and original tunes. Covers of Barry White, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, and Paul McCartney
  • Our Lady Peace released another single called “Run” but more importantly, the whole album dropped today – Spiritual Machines 2 (first one was back in 2000). Back in October, this was released as an NFT – 10,000 of them. Around Christmas, there was another drop and I missed that one, too. Anyway – all platforms have the album today to be heard.
  • New eels music! We’ve gotten several of the singles already from this album and today, the song “Strawberries and Popcorn” is being pushed. Funny song – eating that for dinner, huh. But today, we get the full album – Extreme Witchcraft. A nice bluesy sound for the 14th album out of this band.
  • Lastly, if you got kids, you’ve probably heard that song out of their mouths – “It’s Raining Tacos” – by the way, that song is nearly 10 years old. Anyway, the guy who did that song – Parry Grip – he just released “Eat A Pancake”. Clocks in at 1:03, but that’s all you need to get it stuck. You’ve been warned.

Working on my smaller goals thought / Went back to an old faithful – Field Notes

Matt Ragland (Connect the Dots podcast) broke down his big annual goal into 4 quarters – every 12 weeks.  broke it down even further into 4 to 6 week sprints.  Macro – year / micro – 4 week sprints / He also stresses to set goals that you can control – example of how many subscribers vs. how many videos to post.

Ryan Holiday via his Daily Stoic podcast – It’s okay to stumble – letting good intentions slide a bit – that’s okay.  Just keep getting back at it.  There’s Oprah advice:

Call to the bullpen! AND – Run The Jewels with the save! / Happy Birthday, big brother! / James Clear quote

Trouble running on the mill today. I should say “finishing” on the mill. On Saturday, I had to cut short my 5K run because we had to leave sooner than I thought for our evening. So – I only did like 20 minutes of running. Today, flashes of that went through my head. “Hey – I could cut this short.” No – I want to do a 5K. “But I don’t have to, do I?” It was a little battle going on in my head. Last year’s goal of 5K every day made it an unthinkable act of cutting a run short. After doing that for a full year, I never imagined NOT doing a 5K when I’m running . . . until this past Saturday. Today, I almost did it again. I called in to the bullpen and played some Run the Jewels.

The 26th – couple things about today.

  1. It’s officially over a month since Christmas – take down the tree.
  2. Happy Birthday to my big brother Keith. Back in high school, when I played baseball, I always kept a newspaper clipping of him in my back pocket of the uniform. It inspired me. It helped push me harder. I wanted to be just as good as he was in baseball. He batted left though and being a righty, I was just never going to be that cool.

This past Sunday, I was reading Robert Greene’s daily and he basically laid out how you need to have smaller goals too.

I almost think the smaller goals are more important than the bigger goals. The small goals keep the momentum going towards the big one.

Happy Monday.

AMA Mondays – I used to answer questions on Saturdays, but since I don’t do the babble on the weekends, I thought I would get to them on Mondays from now on. Sort of – kick start my week along.

“Did you get new shoes?” – YES. I got Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 from the Delaware Running Company out in Greenville, DE. Thank you again to G-Dog and Caff for that Christmas gift card. I thoroughly enjoyed getting them and definitely need the new kicks.

Speaking of shoes – did you see those shoes that I posted which were worn by Anderson East? Are they cool or what! When my wife and I saw him several years ago and met him, he had those same shoes. I would so wear shoes like that.

He really does “whoops – my clothes just fell off” good looks.

Before any fun stuff, I have to announce that US singer and actor Meat Loaf has died at the age of 74. Last night, the singer passed away with his wife Deborah at his side. Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell album remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time.

In other sad news, Adele has postponed her Las Vegas residency due to COVID-related production delays, the singer announced yesterday before her first show was set to kick off. Rumors are creeping up that she won’t tour again. BUT – in her video that she put out yesterday, she is apologizing for the canceling of shows AND she claims she will be back to do the shows. We shall see.

New Music Friday:

  • Foo Fighters have released a new song from the Fraggle Rock revival series, which airs on Apple TV+ this weekend. The original show from Jim Henson ran from 1983 to 87 for five seasons. But now, we get the new reboot, Back to the Rock. Click here for their song “Fraggle Rock Rock”.
  • Got an old song redone as a new one by Awolnation. It’s a cover of the legendary Scorpions song “Wind of Change” – you also have Brandon Boyd of Incubus and Portugal. The Man singing on it as well. FYI – the original song was released yesterday – 31 years ago. This is the first song from an entire album of covers that will be coming out this May and is called My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers & Me.
  • Hippo Campus released their third single from their upcoming album LP3, which comes out February 4. The song is called “Ride or Die” – actually came out a week ago, but the other night they were on the Late Late Show with James Corden – who my daughter would recognize as being Peter Rabbit. Back to Hippo Campus – the song reminds me of a Vampire Weekend song. Very nice chill sound.
  • Speaking of Vampire Weekend – Lead singer, Ezra Koenig (that’s apparently how he says his last name) was recently interviewed by Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus. Ezra claims to have enough songs for a new Vampire Weekend album. Then, Do it!
  • Full album – Things Are Great – comes out March 4th, but today, we get “Lights” from Seattle band – Band of Horses. I’m looking forward to this one. They are simply a machine for good music. This will be the band’s sixth album. Sneaky rocking, too. I’ve seen them live a couple times and have several of their albums on vinyl. When live – loud and rocking.

Happy Friday Eve!

346 days until EXIT PLAN / Knocked off another day yesterday

And yesterday, I thoroughly enjoyed a podcast from Tim Ferriss who was interviewing Michael Schur – a television producer. He worked for SNL, The Office, created “The Good Place”. I was truly psyched, just wanted to drop everything, go home, and do something.

Video clip of The Office

He’s written a new book that explores moral philosophy with “How to Be Perfect”. I ordered it. Actually, preordered it. It’s available next Tuesday the 25th. I actually was hesitating, but then I heard that the proceeds of the book are being donated to various charities. Too good. Click-click – ordered!

Here’s the link to the podcast.
