Happy B-Day Violet! / INXS & Chris Cornell smash up/ 1st side of Audioslave’s Audioslave – the best

morning babble / Saturday 10-02-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Whew – I’m all over the place today. It’s my daughter’s birthday. She’s 6. Happy B-day, Violet. She wanted Dunkin today, so that’s the reason for my delay of running.

#275 of my 5K runs will take place on the mill or maybe outside.

It’s cold out. It’s that time of year when you forget your jacket somewhere. Get all bundled up in the morning and then strip it on off as the day goes on. And you forget. Until the next morning.

You know what I like to do on mornings like today. Roll down all the windows and blast the heat onto my feet and drive blaring some tunes. I had on Audioslave’s “Show Me How To Live” which is off their very first album together. That side one of the album is amazing. One of the best for rock songs. It’s actually a double vinyl album – 14 songs, over an hour of rock. Today, you’re lucky to get 10 songs and more than 30 minutes from some bands.

AMA Saturday:

  • Question #1 – How did you know that you got lost at the race? One – I came out at the wrong end of the finish line. But two – I could go back to my watch and see the route that I ran. At the very end, with about .4 miles to go, I went right and clearly should have gone left. I then ran over a mile more and popped out thinking, “Well, at least I ran my 5K.”

First Day of October! Sober October – NOPE!

Tool have announced 2022 tour dates. The shows are set to begin in the United States in early January, with the North American run stretching into March.

Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus Says He’s Now Cancer Free!

New Music Friday:

  • Philly native, Meek Mill released his new album Expensive Pain. Also, announced album playback concert at Madison Square Garden on October 23rd. Two songs being pushed with the aid of videos are “Intro (Hate On Me)” and “On My Soul.”
  • Philly-rooted singer-songwriter Amos Lee returns next year with his seventh studio album, Dreamland, due out February 11th. But – today – we get “Shoulda Known Better.” Next year, there’s a hometown show on Friday, April 15th at The Met Philly
  • During Limp Bizkit’s Lollapalooza 2021 Set, lead singer, Fred Durst, appeared with new “dad” look that included silver hair and a handlebar mustache. They also sang a new song, “Dad Vibes.” It’s like a throwback song. I’m trying to decide.
  • Over 7 years after topping the Billboard 200 with their first joint effort, ‘Cheek to Cheek,’ GRAMMY winners Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga reunite not only for the song “Love for Sale” but a 12 track album as well. You can hear redone classic like ‘I Get a Kick Out of You’ and “I’ve Got You under My Skin.” It’s also been announced that this is the last album for the 95 year old Tony Bennett.
  • Brent Favorite – Elbow will be releasing their ninth studio album, Flying Dream 1, on November 19 2021. But today, we get the chilled out single, “The Seldom Seen Kid,”

Two 20 Minute Sleeping Rules: I’ve been breaking one/ Several quotes from one of my GOATs: Tim Ferriss

morning babble / Thursday 09-30-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

(2) 20 minute sleep rules and I’ve abused the one terribly this week. This is the one where if you wake up 20 minutes or less prior to your alarm, just get up.

The one rule is if you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night tossing and turning for more than 20 minutes. Get up. Go read in another room. Go write in another room. Don’t social media. Beds are made for two things: sleeping . . . and, uh, turtle time (see video for visual).

I ran. #273 of 5K runs in a row. I now have over 900 miles logged for the year. 9 months completed / 3 months to go.

  3. Cecil’s birthday!

I ran – #272

Mornings like today, you need to trust the morning routine.

Watching Dancing with the Stars during MNF? / Go JoJo Siwa / Tony Bennett quote

morning babble / Tuesday 09-28-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Little tired this morning. I watched that Eagles / Dallas game last night. I should have slept. The night started so good too with pasta, spicy sausage, red wine. We were playing the Italian Cooking Music playlist on Spotify when Tony Bennett came on. I think it was me that quizzed, “He’s still alive, right?” Saw him during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

I ran – #271 of 5K runs this year – in a row.

Also last night, my daughter (Violet) was watching Dancing with the Stars. She never had an actual show “live” – I mean, she’s seen football, hockey, baseball, but all of her shows are on Netflix, Disney+, YouTube. But – this show had commercials that you couldn’t skip. She came to me and said, “There’s something wrong. There’s been like 5 commercials.”

Yahoo News Headline: “JoJo Siwa just made history on “Dancing With the Stars” as the first contestant to compete with a partner of the same sex.”

Faithful Friends 5K run done: but, unfortunately, I turned right / Maya Angelou quote via Mark Manson

morning babble / Monday 09-27-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Well, I ran #270 of my 5K runs for the year – in a row – today on the treadmill.

Yesterday though – #269 – it was a 5K run for Faithful Friends – wonderful cause. Faithful Friends Animal Society is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization with a No Kill shelter and community veterinary clinic. All animals in their care stay with them until placed into new homes.

And so, my run. Well, I set a personal record for 5K time, but unfortunately, at the end, I turned right, when I should have turned left. I then ran another .5 miles and came back to the finish line from the wrong side. I actually had to walk up to my wife and kids who had their backs to me and were looking for me to finish from the other way. Whoops!

Yesterday – I did run #268 of my 5K runs for the St. Jude Walk / Run – done virtually – for the team that I was on XTU to the Maxx with Charlie Maxx as our leader. She does middays on 925 XTU in Philadelphia. Thank you to every one who donated and cheered me on.

Now, today – I didn’t run yet, because #269 of my 5K runs will be done at an actual event in person. I’m running the 5K for Faithful Friends as part of my kids’ school team (NCCL). We’ll be at Bellevue State Park in Wilmington for that family fun.

Friday the 24th – Happy Birthday Day! 82 years young! Whew – the stories you can tell. Going to be having coffee with him shortly.

I ran #267. 99 more runs to go. Here’s a flashback to a video clip from April 9th.

My wife picked on me for playing that one. She said I should have gone with Jay-Z.

New Music Friday:

  • 1st up – an ideal Christmas present for Brent. Being reissued is Nirvana’s Nevermind in order to celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary. The new editions are out November 12. The standard reissue will come with a bonus 7″. BUT – The Super Deluxe reissue of Nevermind features 8 LPs and the 7″. Featured across the LPs are the remastered Nevermind, as well as audio from four concerts: Live in Amsterdam, Netherlands (November 25, 1991), Live in Del Mar, California (December 28, 1991), Live in Melbourne, Australia for Triple J (February 1, 1991), and Live in Tokyo (February 19, 1992).
  • Since we’re going 90s, do you remember “Steal My Sunshine” by Len. Well, Portugal the Man and Cherry Glazerr redid it. It’s good, but I think I still like the original.
  • Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats have a new album coming out on November 5th. It’s called The Future. New song released today is “Love Don’t” – I really like it. The way the lyrics are sung, you experience the feelings.
  • New Frank Sinatra? What? Reprise Rarities Volume 5. “Guys and Dolls” with Dean Martin and yes, Frank Sinatra.
  • The entire new album from Angels and Airwaves dropped today – it’s called Lifeforms – 10 songs. I think we got like 4 of them already, but now you can hear the rest of the album. Tom DeLonge is the lead singer of this band. He’s a 1/3 of the Blink-182. Travis Barker – drums. And Mark Hoppus. Beat that Cancer!

Friday Eve

Thinking of Caff today.

Ever have one of those days or weeks . . . where you’re like “trust me. not good”. I mean, you just don’t even want to talk about it because it means reliving it and depressing the junk out of the listening party. Don’t worry – I have no story that I will bore you with, but damn – bring on the weekend. I got a whole lotta running ahead though.

Tell me something I don’t know.

It’s not all rainbows and butterflies, you know. Or rainbows and unicorns. Or butterflies and unicorns. Which is it or which came first?

Rainbows and butterflies came together first. The earliest was from an 1864 French book A Woman’s Philosophy of Woman

In the 1980s, unicorns made their entry, at around the same time that Hasbro began marketing its My Little Pony line of toys, which included both a Rainbow Ponies and a Unicorn Ponies collection.

Neal Whitman wrote an article about this.
