3-Day Fast begins with talks of Dave Asprey and Chris Collinsworth looking . . . alike? / Chase Jarvis quote

morning babble / Tuesday 09-13-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

1st Day of the 3-Day Fast has begun – last night, it officially started at 6:20pm, after pasta, hot sausage, red wine, and closed it out with pumpkin spice Oreos.

Autophagy is Latin for “self eating”

This is when your body consumes old cells for energy when you fast. This can: ease pain, reduce loose skin, lower inflammation.

Research suggests it can even help prevent cancer.

Autophagy begins when fasting for at least 18 hours, sometimes up to 20 hours.

Autophagy peaks around 32 to 48 hours of fasting

PODCAST TUESDAY!

So, I tried listening to some fasting podcasts and that was a whole lot tougher than I thought it would be.

Dr. Anthony Gustin has a podcast called: The Natural State. I do like him – he’s got good things. He had on his podcast – Dave Asprey, who has done all kinds of fasting. I really did enjoy this one. Click here for that podcast.

Dave Asprey / Chris Collinsworth – look alike?

If you really want to go deeper, one of the best podcasts for learning about a fast is with Tim Ferris when he interviewed Dom D’Agostino – click here for that one.

morning babble / Monday 09-12-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Happy Monday – no case of the Mondays – let’s make it a happy one.

I had a good weekend. Didn’t hit some goals but it was definitely a good weekend.

I had a lot on the plate. My eyes were definitely bigger than the stomach.

GOAL SETTING MONDAY

Need to just get it back into gear. Smile at that good weekend, but I still realize that not too many of the initial goals that I wanted to accomplish were made. AND – that’s okay.

I need to remember the good things.

I ran a 5k yesterday – getting ready for that Faithful Friends 5k on Sunday the 25th.

No Jiu-Jitsu today – I did 3 days this past week and 3 days last week. Looking ahead to next week, my schedule looks good for a 5 for 5 week. BUT – the 3 day fast is next week, too. That’s going to make things interesting.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Prince of Darkness is back. That’s Ozzy Osbourne. Actually, to promote his new album which is out in its fullness today called Patient Number 9 – last night, he was performing during halftime of the NFL’s season opening game between the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills. It was to be a two-song set and was, but after NBC introduced the act, they only showed 10 seconds of Ozzy, who by the way, is 73. He looked propped up. Anyway – new music and the album includes Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Zakk Wylde, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, RHCP’s Chad Smith, and the late Taylor Hawkins.
  • Via Yahoo Entertainment, “Aqua Teen Hunger Force returns this November with the movie Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm, and Run the Jewels contributed the opening theme to the film with the appropriately titled “Opening Theme.” Supersized fry – that’s a funny line. However, I have to claim my ignorance to this movie. I am not familiar with it or what it’s all about it. BUT – they got my attention by getting Run the Jewels involved. Here’s a link to go see the trailer for Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm. Oh and Run the Jewels – apparently, they are going back into the studio for another LP – yesssssssssssssssssssssssss.
  • New John Legend album is out and called LEGEND and it’s a double album. 24 songs / Nearly an hour and a half of new music. I read an article today from Tim Peacock on uDiscover Music and he broke it down the best: “ACT I recalls vividly the worldly, sensual pleasures of Saturday night – full of lust, self, sex and adventure.” Then, “ACT II evokes the feeling of a Sunday morning, with its focus on healing, intimacy, soulfulness and commitment.” We’ve already gotten a couple singles out of this new album, but Mr. Legend is slotted to sing “Pieces” at the 74th Emmy Awards on September 12 (Monday).
  • Country Music star Kane Brown has his 3rd album out today in its entirety. It’s called Different Man – 17 songs, hour of music. If you know me, I’m not the biggest fan of the country sound, at times, I’d much rather shove a pencil in my ear. BUT -this guy has blended the sound of soul & hip-hop into country. It really is something special. The album does include his first recorded collaboration with his wife Katelyn Brown – called “Thank God.”

It’s Wednesday. Short week, but for some reason it already feels like it should be Thursday. Why is that? I feel like that always happens with the short weeks. All excited about already being Tuesday and then when Wednesday gets here . . . “why isn’t it Thursday?”

116 days until EXIT PLAN

Welcome to AMA Wednesday –

Via someone – “Didn’t you have a doctor’s appointment? How’s the Plantar Fasciitis?”

My doctor didn’t help me all that much. I basically explained how I hadn’t run since June 5th but then just started back up and the foot really wasn’t getting any worse. He said that I appeared to have it under control and to maybe using a heating pad for it. I used this heating corn bag that I warm up in the microwave. I mean – maybe he’s helping me? No cortisone shot, but I have been doing the warm bag treatment.

I will be running with the team from my kid’s old school – NCCL – in the Faithful Friends 5k Run at Bellevue State Park on Sunday, September 25th.

PODCAST TUESDAY!

Peter Attia has a podcast called: the drive. The most recent episode that came out just yesterday is called “Understanding sleep and how to improve it.” Click here.

Over the years, Peter Attia has had Matthew Walker (Why We Sleep) on his podcast for 3 episodes. All of those are good, but this is like a highlight reel for them.

Time spent in bed has been my focus but they were saying that’s a good start but you really need to get that full 8 hours of actual sleep. I struggle there big time, but I’m trying. Currently, my watch tells me that I’m getting on average 6 hours, 12 minutes / 5 hours, 46 minutes, and 6 hours, 4 minutes.

Talk about naps / If you are struggling with sleeping at night – avoid naps. You want that sleep pressure build-up

If you’ve been trying to get to sleep and have been in bed for 20 minutes – get out of bed. Go read in the library. Get sleepy and then get back into bed. Train yourself that bed is a time for sleep.

The bed is for two things: Sleeping & Tickle Fights

Outside and FULL COLOR! BJJ got blood flowing to my head, so I wasn’t so pasty white.

121 days until EXIT PLAN

Couple weeks ago, I reported how I always start my Friday with the New Music Friday playlist from Spotify. Today, it opened with “Super Freaky Girl” by Nicki Minaj – that was a wake-up. Fun song. Put the buds in. I couldn’t really play any of the video lyrics that I saw either.  The video is out. (clip) – that’s all I can play.

Speaking of Nicki – I also talked about Megan Thee Stallion that day because she had a new album out. Well, the latest on her is in the newest episode of She-Hulk. This week, Megan Thee Stallion guest-starred in Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law series on Disney+. The rapper appeared briefly in the third episode of the show

New Music Friday:

  • Weezer! I played their song “Records” at the beginning of everything today. Now, the original “Records” is off their SZNZ Summer album. They just redid it though with Israeli singer, Noga Erez. As all the music with Weezer – it’s great, well done. Yes – I’m a fan. This year, we are getting 4 albums from Weezer. One for each season. We got the Spring and Summer one. The Fall one is coming out on Thursday, September 22nd.
  • New Taylor! Last Sunday night, Taylor Swift won the Video of the Year award at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards for her 10-minute video of “All Too Well: The Short Film.” After accepting the award, Swift thanked her fans and then revealed, Oh yeah, I have a brand new album coming out October 21st. (mic drop) Later, she revealed on Instagram that it’s called Midnights and features “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout her life.” Nothing today though. I thought we would get something, but False Hope.
  • Speaking of Miss Swift, since she is who she is . . . she got a full sneak peek sound listen to The 1975’s new album: Being Funny in a Foreign Language. Frontman Matty Healy said that her reaction to the album was “it’s so funny.” Hopefully, that’s what they were going for. At least, she didn’t say – “That’s a good start” or “So close.” Anyway, today we get another new track: “I’m in Love With You.” We also get a black and white video which features a cameo from Phoebe Bridgers. For the video, click here. On October 14th, we’ll get the full album drop of Being Funny in a Foreign Language
  • Got another new song today from one of my favorites: Eve 6. The single is called “I mean you”. Announced several weeks ago, their first full-length record in 10 years will be coming out on September 23rd which is only in several weeks – it’s called Hyper Relevisation

Couple quick hits here:

  • I haven’t heard from these guys in a bit: Arctic Monkeys. Today, we get their first single from their upcoming album, The Car – which we should get in its entirety (10 songs) in October. The name of the song is “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball.” I’ve always liked them and enjoyed how they have changed their sound over the years, too
  • Coming out February 24th in 2023 – that’s crazy to say – is Cracker Island from the Gorillaz. Today, we get “New Gold” which features Tame Impala and Bootie Brown. The album is going to feature some other artists such as Stevie Nicks, Bad Bunny, Beck, and more.
  • Last one – the Editors have shared ‘Vibe’, another cut from their seventh album ‘EBM‘. I’m thinking EBM stands for Electronic Body Music? Anyway – the album is here on Sept 23rd.

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

morning babble / Thursday 09-01-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Chubby Thor – that’s sorta what I felt like heading back into BJJ. I’m not – I’m doing okay, but obviously, the body has not been twisted and turned like that in a while. I survived though and everyone was so nice . . . probably because they were thinking “fresh meat.”

By the way, Chubby Thor / I’d still take it. I bet the fans of Chris Hemsworth’s assets were bummed with Chubby Thor. But – with this recent Thor movie, they got hooked up.

My leg / thigh – Charlie horse spasm during a meeting with a friend yesterday. Thankfully she knows me and I had already explained that I was happy my body survived the morning. But then – wham! Sometimes I just play things at the beginning of the Babble because I think it’s fun. That’s one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. That movie is Tombstone and I love Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.
