Should I “Rawdog” My Race This Friday? / Quote of the Day from Snoop Dogg

5K EVERY DAY – Day #126

(“Drop It Like It’s Hot” Snoop Dogg)

I’m still working on my playlist of music for my race this Friday. BUT – I’m not sure if I should even have the tunes playing. Or maybe – I should Raw Dog the race?

(“Who Let the Dogs Out” Baha Men)

Just an FYI – This past January, the American Dialect Society selected the Word of the Year for 2024 – it was Rawdog. I can explain. Also, no rawdogging today when I ran.

(#126)

With Rawdogging, I know what you are thinking about – the slang term referring to having sex without a condom. Rawdogging has crossed over in the mainstream for a wide variety of activities, like with a flight, the passenger just sits through it without any distractions.

The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra Dropped a New Album. The Band Leader is the Dude from The Fly? – Missed Music Monday

missed music monday / Monday 05-05-25

DISCLAIMER:

This is the scribble that leads to the babble.

Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.

When all else fails: there’s video!

(“Ev’ry Time We Say Good-Bye”)

That’s Jeff Goldblum – Actor, jazz pianist and band leader. He along with The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra released their album – Still Blooming – a couple weeks ago. I missed it.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

Still Blooming is Goldblum’s fourth album release. So, I’m really late to this jazz party AND he’s got some serious guest vocals on the album. Like Scarlett Johansson,

(“The Best Is Yet To Come”)

And since he got to hang with Ariana Grande on the set of Wicked, when he was singing between takes the song “I Don’t Know Why (I Just Do)” – he got her attention because that was the song her grandfather always sung to her.

(clip)

Go enjoy Jeff Goldblum and The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra’s album – Still Blooming

That’s your Missed Music Monday

A Charcuterie Board of New Music for the Weekend: Puddle of Mudd, Nilufer Yanya, & Barbara Streisand

new music weekend / Friday 05-02-25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Who’s coming up! Puddle of Mudd, Nilüfer Yanya, Amble, and you’ll never guess – Barbara Streisand.

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • 1st Up – Puddle of Mudd (“She Hates Me”) Yup – that Puddle of Mudd. That song was released back in July of 2002! Now, the band has made numerous albums since then (“Psycho”) However, they have had numerous transformations with the line-up, but singing guy and guitarist, Wes Scantlin, has been the most consistent member, which is good thing because his voice is truly what jumps out to me as being Puddle of Mudd (“Blurry”) We’ve got their 7th studio album to enjoy today – just 9 seconds past 30 minutes of rock joy, which tallies 9 songs in all. Album is called Kiss the Machine and the first official release off the album is track #1 “Beautimous” (clip)
  • Last September, Nilüfer Yanya released her album – My Method Actor (“Method Actor”) I love the color of this vinyl – Turquoise – Had to check with my wife on that color. Not blue and not green. (“Just A Western”) The song that I totally dug from the beginning from this album is called “Like I Say.” (“Like I Say”) Nilüfer Yanya is touring this summer, so I’m not sure of a full album coming, but this past Monday – “New Music Monday” – she gave us at least one new song called “Cold Heart” (clip)
  • I talked about this band back in March (“Schoolyard Days”) The band is called Amble who’s debut album “Reverie” is out in its entirety on May 23rd (“Swan Song”) So far though, the band has been quite generous with slowing releasing out this album. 14 tracks in all. 8 have already been released and today we get our 9th. I’m still looking forward to May 23rd. Here’s Amble with their latest “Treehouse Wings” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: After releasing her first song in 4 years last week, Lorde has officially announced a new album – her 4th – titled Virgin and the Virgin’s arrival date – June 27th // On Mondays, I do a video called Missed Music Monday. This past Monday, I talked about missing out on the deluxe album from Shaboozey. I could have also talked about new songs released from Linkin Park and The All-American Rejects. Their on my Spotify playlist for this week. // The last time I heard Barbara Streisand on Spotify – it was Christmas. I like her rendition of Jingle Bells (clip) Today though, she popped up because of her upcoming new duets album called The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume 2 (the first one arrived 11 years ago) – Volume 2 includes an all-star duet line-up featuring Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, and Hozier, who is on the first song to arrive prior to the album’s June 27th drop date (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Another Song Heard at the Gym To Question Where You Really Are / Quote of the Day from Phil Collins

5K EVERY DAY – Day #122

(“I Can’t Dance”)

That’s a really great song from 1991 – which happens to be the year I graduated high school. Ouch.

(“I Can’t Dance”)

Anyway – That’s Genesis – the last album with Phil Collins on vocals. I heard another song from that album the other day at the gym and it was NOT “I Can’t Dance”

(“No Son of Mine”)

Not on the musical Bingo card of what could be heard at the gym. “No Son of Mine” – that’s a good Father’s Day songs – not at all. Just kidding. I’m not kidding about this. I ran.

How Many 5K Miles after 4 Months of Running? / Quote of the Day from Paul Graham

5K EVERY DAY – Day #121

(“When I Wake Up” part of the song)

It’s May 1st. That means 4 months of the year – done. 5K Every Day for 2025 a 1/3 of the way through. So, how many miles so far?

(I would walk 500 miles)

Again, I am running, not walking and it’s not quite 500 miles yet. I’ll save that song for that upcoming glorious day. I’m officially at 386.9 miles for the year. When I run my 5K for the day, I always make sure that I hit – not just 3.1 miles, but 3.2 miles. And I did do that today.

New Running Shoes Have Arrived! / Quote of the Day NOT from James Clear

5K EVERY DAY – Day #120

(“Break My Stride” Matthew Strider)

And especially not now since I have new shoes. New HOKA shoes to help me

(“Run” AWOLNATION)

Yesterday, I was at the Delaware Running Company store in Greenville. That’s where I have gotten my last 6 or 7 pairs of running shoes.

Initially, I thought I was going to get another brand, but then started talking about my most favorite running shoes of all time. The HOKA Cliftons

The GOAT of TV Theme Song Makers? / Quote of the Day from Jerry Seinfeld

5K EVERY DAY – Day #119

(Seinfeld Theme song)

Jonathan Wolff is the man behind many of our favorite TV themes, from “Will & Grace” to “Caroline in the City” to “Seinfeld” – what we just heard. Speaking of Seinfeld, Jerry is turning 71 today – it’s his birthday. It’s also 5K run #119 for me.
