A Warm-up for Song of Summer / A Long, Holiday Weekend for some New Music Weekend

new music weekend / Friday 05-23-25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! It’s the weekend where Monday is grouped in with the cool kids for a long weekend celebration. Memorial Day is also the unofficial kick-off to summer. (“Espresso”) 2024’s song of summer was probably “Espresso” from Sabrina Carpenter but it was released back on April 12th. That very same day my chosen song of summer for 2024 was released (“A Bar Song”) Shaboozey “A Bar Song.” I do have some possibilities today for this year’s song of summer to give a listen for.

In the meantime – for New Music Weekend – Who’s coming up! Amble – appearing here again, Young Rising Sons, Benson Boone, The Paradox, and Some Summer Songs

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • I’ve been looking forward to this album release ever since hearing their song “Schoolyard Days” (clip) I know I’ve played these guys before – once in March and even this month – a couple weeks ago. They are a three-piece folk group hailing from Ireland and they call themselves: Amble. (“Reverie”) And that’s the title track of the album Reverie. Via an Instagram post from the band, they explain “The word “Reverie” is a dream-like state – being lost in one’s thoughts. We hope this album is an escape for one hour of your day!” All in – go enjoy all 14 songs from Amble (clip) I’m so getting this one on vinyl – you hear that Rainbow Records – get this one in stock.
  • The trilogy of EPs from Young Rising Sons is officially complete. Back in January, the Young EP was released with 6 songs – one of which was “Oblivious” (clip). Then, in March, we got another 6 pack of songs with an EP title of Rising. This one included the song “Tomorrow” that I liked (clip) So again the band is Young Rising Sons. January – Young. March – Rising. You see where this is going, right? Today, we have 6 more songs under the EP title of Sons – and not only do I say “Thank you” to Young Rising Sons for all this good music. Let’s play their song “Thank you” (clip)
  • Songs of the Summer – This is music that becomes like an earworm and just lives in your head because it’s being played non-stop everywhere. With the recent resurgence of popularity on this song, Charli XCX Fans are pushing for the song “party 4 u” despite the song being released in 2020 (clip) Personally, I don’t know how a 2020 song can become the song of summer for 2025. It’s a good song, but it’s been 5 years. (“luther”) Kendrick and SZA did the song “Luther” together. I like that one – a lot. I just want something more upbeat. I’m holding out hope for Benson Boone (clip) “Mystical Magical” – now that’s upbeat. We’ll have to see though what else he might have in store though when his album drops fully on the 1st day of Summer – June 20th. Another song from that upcoming album – American Heart – was recently released called “Momma” (clip)
  • That song is going to played at weddings for the Momma and Groom Dance. Several quick hits of new music // This past week, Bruce Springsteen – The Real Boss (“Born in the USA” ) released a 6 pack of songs under the packaged title – Land of Hope & Dreams – it’s a good listen. Wakes you up – hopefully. // Stereolab – they’re still here – they just haven’t released anything in 15 years until now. Be sure to check out their album release of Instant Holograms on Metal Film // I’ve actually had this song on the Spotify playlist – maybe twice already – but I just never talked about it. Throwback sound to the music heard during the MySpace days like Jimmy Eat World and Sum 41. Here’s The Paradox with “Do Me Like That” (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

5K EVERY DAY – Day #142

Miss Taylor Swift has been in the news a lot lately. Within an episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, there was a re-recorded version of the song – “Look What You Made Me Do”

(“Look What You Made Me Do” song)

Unfortunately – it’s not available online or any of the streaming services, nor has Taylor announced the possible release date of the full album Reputation (Taylor’s Version) . . . yet.

On this date in 2021, Olivia Rodrigo released her debut album – Sour – which includes “Deja Vu,” “Good 4 U,” “Brutal,” and “Drivers License.” On this date 2025, I ran.

This One I Missed from Last May (Yes, May 24) / Missed Music Monday: Jessica Pratt

missed music monday / Monday 05-19-25

DISCLAIMER:

This is the scribble that leads to the babble.

Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.

When all else fails: there’s video!

(“Life Is”)

The opening notes of that song gives me these happy chills because I know what else is coming. This is about an album I totally missed from a year ago last May.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

I had already completed and posted my 3 videos of my Top 20 Albums from 2024, when I first heard the songs from Jessica Pratt’s album – Here in the Pitch

(“Life Is”)

It was another vlogger that inroduced me to this album because it was his number one for 2024. Christian Archer. I’ll provide a link at brentevans.net you can see what he said about this album.

See this Instagram post by @chrstianarcher for his take on Jessica Pratt

(“World on a String”)

Her sound is so beautifully simple and defintiely has this throwback feel to it – her voice, her music, her everything. So good – I went out and bought the vinyl.

Be sure to listen to the entire album from Jessica Pratt called Here in the Pitch

Tune in tomorrow for: Quote of the Day!

Transitioned from Podcast to Music for that Extra Kick / Quote of the Day: Alex Hormozi

5K EVERY DAY – Day #139

(“Fruit Machine” The Ting Tings)

I did not feel like doing this today flash the 5K Every Day card)

(#139)

But – I did. Ever since my race day from a week ago this past Friday, I’ve cut back the speed slightly on the treadmill and have been listening to just podcasts. Today – I had to make a switch to music.

(“Get Up” Mother Mother)

By the way, those bands that I just played – The Tings Tings and Mother Mother – they both have new albums coming out on June 6th

Big Day Coming in November for Soundgarden, but a Sad One for Today / Quote of the Day from Chris Cornell

5K EVERY DAY – Day #138

(“My Wave”)

“My Wave” is my most favorite song from the band – Soundgarden

They’ve been in the news a lot lately because they’re going in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on November 8th – which will be exciting.. Today though – is a sad day.

(“Fell on Black Days”)

8 years ago – on this date back in 2017 – we lost Chris Cornell – who I believe along with many others to be one of the best voices in rock and music history

(“Spoonman”)

I miss that dude. I ran.

My Blink-182 CD is Making a Comeback / New Music Weekend (no CDs)

new music weekend / Friday 05-16-25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Happy Weekend – have you heard that CDs making a comeback? Physical music is still desired. I want to touch it (“What’s My Age Again?”) That’s quite a line for the nurse’s office. No schoolwork getting done there. Vinyl really began to take off with Record Store Day which started back in 2008. Maybe they need a CD Store Day? (“All the Small Things”) I don’t even have a CD player in the house anymore

New Music Weekend: coming up: Slow Joy, Pearl Jam, The Black Keys, Snoop Dogg, & more

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • I’ve been eyeing up this album release from Slow Joy ever since hearing the song “Gruesome” (clip) / I think the singer – Esteban Flores – reminds me of someone else (“Rock Show”) That’s Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 – another emo band. Not really. I don’t support that (“I Miss You”) That’s not fair. Blink-182 is punk. Let’s get back to Slow Joy (“Wound”) About a month ago that song came out – “Wound” – the 2nd release off the album A Joy So Slow At Times I Don’t Think It’s Coming – 13 tracks in all. By the way, within the Slow Joy videos, two masked characters are featured—the Bull and the Sugar Skull—who embody chaos and grief. This is the album’s third release “Here For You” (cut)
  • There’s a video game and an HBO series called The Last of Us – neither of which I’m personally familiar with unfortunately, but fortunately for them, Pearl Jam is (“Future Days”) This past Monday, Pearl Jam released a four-song EP of their songs that have been used in both the video game and show and called it The Last of Us (“Present Tense (Redux)”) Apparently, there is a 12-inch vinyl EP version BUT – it’s available for preorder exclusively for members of Pearl Jam’s Ten Club fan organization. Explain me missing out on Ten Club (“Even Flow”)
  • I did a tangent. We’ll get back to the new music. (“The Night Before”) Back in February, The Black Keys released their first song “The Night Before” off their upcoming album which is due out in its entirety on August 8th. Then in March, they threw another one at us called “Babygirl” (cut) Today, we get the album’s title track and 1st song that can be heard on the record – this is “No Rain, No Flowers” (clip)
  • I do have several quick hits of new music, but first I’m going to tangent again – sorta. That new album from The Black Keys will be their 13th studio album. That’s a lot. I basically first heard of The Black Keys in 2010 with their 6th studio album: Brothers (“Howlin’ For You”) I have a point. I’m getting somewhere. I was just so excited to “find” a band that I enjoyed so much and then realize that there were 5 more prior albums to go back and enjoy. I love when that happens. (“Tighten Up”) Anyway, recently I was at my favorite place to get vinyl – Rainbow Records in Newark, DE – and I picked up their 3rd studio album – Rubber Factory (“Keep Me”)
  • Whew – some tangent there, huh – several quick hits of new music // Feel bad – I really should have talked this one up – been waiting for this one to: Borderlands from The Talbott Brothers is all out for us to witness. 11 songs. Go listen to each one. I did add “Wild” to my weekly playlist that can be found at brentevans.net // Geez – this is a big one – maybe I’ll claim it for Missed Music Monday – Snoop Dogg has a new album Iz It A Crime – it’s a crime that Snoop’s only getting one line // Just last month – I was hyping up Petey USA and his release “The Milkman” (clip) His new album THE YIPS comes out July 11th but now we get a 2nd release to enjoy “As Two People Drift Apart” (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.
