The New Music You Almost Missed This Weekend | Snooper, Good Neighbours, and, of course, Taylor Swift

New Music Weekend / 10/03-10/05/25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Happy Weekend! This one has been circled on the calendar for quite some time with the ladies of my household.

Who’s coming up for New Music Weekend – it’s a tough one for some of these bands, we’ve got The Moss, Snooper, Good Neighbors, and by law I have to do it, but I was looking forward to it as well – Taylor Swift.

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • Jack White signed this band to his Third Man Records Label (“Pom Pom” clip) Nashville’s Snooper is a modern egg punk band, known for their kinetic live shows featuring puppets and papier-mâché (“Guard Dog” clip) The new album – Worldwide – is a breathless, adrenline rush, with most tracks clocking in at under two minutes. 12 tracks in under a half hour! A song that just came out with a video is going to give some of us flashbacks to the 90s – “Star 6 9” (“Star 6 9” clip) I so remember my house phone ringing as a kid and not getting to it in time and then . . . star 6 9. One more song from Snooper. It’s a high-speed opening track on Worldwide – it starts the madness. Here’s “Opt Out” (“Opt Out” clip)
  • Back in March, I talked about Good Neighbours and hearing on the radio their song “Ripple” (“Ripple” clip) Good song about being there for your friends. Now while touring with Foster the People earlier this year, they then road tested another new song “Starry Eyed” (clip) Today, the entire album can be heard – it’s called Blue Sky Mentality and, of course, has the song that hat broke the duo globally – “Home” (“Home” clip) I’m going to go a little deeper for you on the album to a song that shifts away their signature upbeat style to a slower, more deliberate tone. It’s track #14 – the album’s closer called “The Buzz” (“The Buzz” clip)
  • And now by law, a review of – The Life of a Showgirl (“The Life of a Showgirl” clip) For those of you who question whether a 52 year old – old dude has any right reviewing this album. Let me just say – I have 10 year old daughter and that album has been playing non-stop. AND – I went to see the a 90-minute movie to celebrate the release of Taylor’s 12th album (“The Fate of Ophelia” clip) The focus of the movie surrounded the new video for “The Fate of Ophelia” as well as the behind the scenes making of the video – I thoroughly enjoyed it. And – I loved witnessing the excitement of Taylor Swift during her creativity process – very well done. More artists need to pay attention and do this for their fans. (“Opalite”) and that song “Opalite” – I believe – is going to be huge. I find myself wanting to hear it again and again. And – you know who else is a fan of it Travis Kelce. Let’s play a little more (“Opalite”)
  • Several quick hits of new music: The Moss – I fell for this band with the song “The Place That Makes Me Happy” (“The Place That Makes Me Happy” clip) It’s not a full blast album, but instead a quiant 4 pack EP of musical joy called: Free Ride // 5 albums that were bold enough to arrive on a Taylor Swift weekend: Malibu, Carter Faith, Pavlov’s Dog, Ledisi, and Mayday Parade // Daisy Grenade is a band that I always look forward to hearing their new music arrivals. However, let’s revisit an older favorite real quick (“How To Hide a Body”) “How To Hide A Body” – setting the mood for Halloween times. Anyway – they have a new song out called “Good Luck (Wish You Hell)” (clip)

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Taylor Swift’s New Song ‘Opalite’ Reveals Jason Kelce’s Best Life Lesson | 5K Day 278

5K EVERY DAY – Day #278

(“Opalite” Taylor Swift)

That’s track #3 “Opalite” off of the new Taylor Swift album. If rumor has it right – that song is her fiancé’s favorite on the new album – The Life of a Showgirl

(More “Opalite” Taylor Swift)

Taylor’s fiancé, of course, is Travis Kelce who’s 36th birthday it is today. AND – the October birthstone is the Opal. FYI – I’m a bigger fan of his brother.

(Even more “Opalite” Taylor Swift)

Jason Kelce who built his career as an underdog. He was a walk-on and constantly told he wasn’t big enough—but yet he retired as a Super Bowl champion and a legend.

That’s it – that’s our lesson. You don’t have to be the biggest star to have the greatest impact. You just have to keep showing up. I ran.

(Video Slide of Day #278)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Persistence has summed up my whole career. Summed up my whole life. Just keep going. Just keep moving forward, no matter what obstacles come in your way, just keep moving forward.” – by Jason Kelce

Nickelback Motivation along with Chad Kroeger’s Lesson | 5K Day 277

5K EVERY DAY – Day #277

(“Rockstar” clip)

Nickelback’s biggest album, All The Right Reasons, was released on this date back in 2005.

(“Photograph” clip)

Love ’em or hate ’em – you can’t argue with the hits they delivered and the massive success that followed.

(“Animals” clip))

They got there by focusing on their work, ignoring the constant criticism, and never letting up. You need to keep showing up for your own right reasons. Don’t do it for the audience, the clock, or the critics. Do it for you. I ran.

(Video Slide of Day #277)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“You really have to keep that initial hunger… You have to keep that fire in the belly.” – by Chad Kroeger (Nickelback)

Stay hungry. Keep that fire burning. Let’s get this day done! Please like and subscribe, and I’ll see you tomorrow.

Dewey Finn’s Lesson from the School of Rock (Cool Soundtrack, too) | Day 276

5K EVERY DAY – Day #276

(Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”)

Today marks the anniversary of School of Rock hitting the big screen! The year – man, I can’t believe it’s been 22 years – 2003!

(More Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”)

This is the movie where Jack Black teaches us that passion and dedication are everything. The movie is also the perfect soundtrack to help you get that work done.

(Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water”)

School of Rock delivers the lesson that—whether you’re an athlete, an artist, or just some dude trying to finish his daily 5K—you have to commit 100% to the process. You put everything you have into the effort.

(Video Slide of 5K Day #276)

This 5K is My ‘Morning Glory’ along with Michael Jordan’s Mindset, of course | Day 275

5K EVERY DAY – Day #275

(A clip of the intro to “Wonderwall”)

On this date back in 1995, Oasis released their album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? It was a massive moment for the band, a culmination of years of relentless touring and hard work. It was their moment to step onto the global stage.

(More “Wonderwall” clip)

The path to greatness for any artist or athlete isn’t built in a single day. It’s a journey of quiet, daily effort that nobody sees. You can either wish for it to happen, or you can get up and do the work. Today – I ran

(Video Slide of 5K Day #275)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, and others make it happen.” – by Michael Jordan

With my 5K Every Day streak, there might be wishing on my part that the run was already over for the day, heck – I wish tomorrow’s run was done. Nevertheless, I still get out there and make it happen.

My Tauntaun Run with Star Wars Disco in the Background | Day 274

5K EVERY DAY – Day #274

(Star Wars Main Theme clip)

If you’ve followed me over the years, you just might know that I’m a big Star Wars fan.

This is my Tauntaun (showing a Tauntaun figure with Han Solo)

(more Star Wars Main Theme clip)

On this date in 1977, a song called “Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band” hit #1 on the Hot 100

(“Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band” clip)

It was a 15-minute song made up of Star Wars music set to a disco beat. There’s even had an R2D2 solo!

(“Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band” clip of R2D2 solo)

Disco and Star Wars – a bizarre mix, but once you commit to something – #1 can obviously be hit. My commitment to running continues again today – I ran.

9 Months Down! Odelay vs. Morning Phase Run | Day 273

5K EVERY DAY – Day #273

(“Devil’s Haircut” clip)

No birthday, No album release, No nothing – just my man: Beck

(“Where It’s At” clip)

Both those clips are from songs off of his Odelay album – a very upbeat, get you going type of record. And then, there’s my favorite Sunday morning album: Morning Phase

(“Morning” clip)

Beck always does that – has the fast pace albums and then the more chill ones. My 5K Every Day streak is exactaly the same. I have my days where I’m just flying along and then other days – I’m running, but it’s definitely a slower pace. By the way – 9 months down, 3 months to go.

(Video Slide of Day #273)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“It’s about keeping a steady rhythm, even if you change the melody.” – by Beck

The Blink-182 Connection: Focus on Your Own Identity | Day 272

5K EVERY DAY – Day #272

(“Bad At Love” clip)

I do realize that I’ve been talking up birthdays a lot lately: Bruce Springsteen, St. Vincent, Teddy Swims, Serena Williams, but it allows me to talk about so many different people.

(Blink-182 line from the “Closer” song with Halsey)

And since Halsey likes Blink-182 the way I do. We’re talking about Halsey’s birthday today.

(“Rock Show” clip from Blink-182)

Halsey is an artist whose music always comes back to maintaining a unique identity. Regardless of what the world is doing, you have to keep that focus. For me – that’s my 5K Every Day streak.

(Video Slide of Day #272)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“I try to maintain a sense of my own identity, and that’s always been important to me.” – by Halsey (she turned 31)

Aerosmith & Yungblud: Does the 50-Year Gap Work? | Missed Music Monday

missed music monday / Monday 09-29-25

(“Idols” clip)

Yungblud released his latest album – IDOLS – this past June and it’s been one of my most favorites of 2025. In turn, I didn’t explect more new music already.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

This is actually a double-miss – the other band? Ehhh – just legendary Aerosmith

(“Love in the Elevator” clip)

After meeting up for their controversial performance at the MTV VMAs, where they paid tribute to Ozzy, Aerosmith and Yungblud decided to bang out some new music together.

(“My Only Angel” clip)

That’s “My Only Angel”—the lead single from their five-song EP, One More Time, arriving on November 21st. Steven Tyler called the collaboration “plugging into pure electricity.” I’m looking forward to the rest.

The New Music You Almost Missed This Weekend | Robert Plant, Olivia Dean, RKS, & More!

New Music Weekend / 9/26-9/28/25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Happy Weekend! There is so much goodness that’s been released – I’m just going to say:

“Go Subscribe, please”

And then who’s coming up for New Music Weekend: Robert Plant, Olivia Dean, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and a new release that I want for Christmas.

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • Robert Plant released nine studio albums as a member of Led Zeppelin before it all came to an end on December 4th – 1980 (clip of “Your Ma Said You Cried In Your Sleep Last Night”) Today, the Rock Legend just dropped his first album in nearly a decade – I mean, if you want to be specific – it’s been 8 years. (“Everybody’s Song” clip) Saving Grace is the 12th studio album with Plant playing the role of solo musician. However, Saving Grace was named after the band he had been performing with for over six years, which includes singer Suzi Dian (“As I Roved Out” clip) The album is a collection of ten cover songs that have been reinterpreted and reimagined, while digging into folk, blues, gospel, and alt-country. A deeper cut that I’ve enjoyed showcases the unique Saving Grace band chemistry and has Suzi Dian’s Lead Vocals – don’t worry, Robert Plant is still there. Here’s “Too Far From You” (“Too Far From You” clip)
  • Back in August, I highlighted Olivia Dean on my Missed Music Monday – I wasn’t going to miss on her a 2nd time around with the arrival of the album – The Art of Loving (“Nice To Each Other”) My daughter loves belting out her own rendition of that one to the room whenever it’s played – “Nice To Each Other”, which was one of the early released singles. Here’s a newer one that I’ve been enjoying (“So Easy” clip) and yes with those warm and smoky vocals, it is “So Easy (To Fall in Love)” with Olivia Dean. Her sound is a genre-fluid mix of soul, jazz, and classic pop. (“Man I Need” clip) That’s the late-summer smash single, ‘Man I Need’ which has already made this record a huge success. However, let’s go even deeper. (“A Couple Minutes”) The track is “A Couple Minutes” and I feel it really showcases her smooth, classic pop side. If you haven’t already, get to know Olivia Dean or maybe I should say Olivia Lauryn Dean – her middle name is an homage to her parents’ favorite – Lauryn Hill. Let’s hear one more from the album: The Art of Loving and I really like these lyrics of hers stating that the silence is so loud (“Loud”)
  • Just like Olivia Dean, here’s another band that I highlighted on a Missed Music Monday back in August. (“Dang”) “Dang” is the name of that song, which definitely gives you that signature, lyrical, RKS energy. RKS being Rainbow Kitten Surprise. (“bones”) That’s the album’s title track – “bones”. Now, the season is officially – Autumn – but I’m still enjoying that 2nd release off of bones called “100 Summers” (“100 Summers”) To go a little deeper on the album – by the way – 10 tracks in all. And – we’re going to go to track #10 which is also the longest song on the album. For this – you have Rainbow Kitten Surprise showing a moodier, more expansive sound. This is “Tropics” (“Tropics”)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Tate McRae released a surprise single called “Tit For Tat.” Does she have a video of that one yet? // Five albums to drive around and listen to this weekend – I always love doing that with every album: Amanda Shires, Doja Cat, Geese, Jeff Tweedy, and Mariah Carey (Christmas clip) Sorry – I know it’s still September, but it’s getting closer. // The 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was released (clip). That’s old time Genesis with Phil Collins still on drums and Peter Gabriel at the mic. Available as 4CDs or 5LPs – Christmas wish has officially been placed. (more Christmas clip)
