Remember: Don’t forget the smaller goals! They help you get to the bigger goals!! / Robert Greene quote

This past Sunday, I was reading Robert Greene’s daily and he basically laid out how you need to have smaller goals too.

I almost think the smaller goals are more important than the bigger goals. The small goals keep the momentum going towards the big one.

Happy Monday.

AMA Mondays – I used to answer questions on Saturdays, but since I don’t do the babble on the weekends, I thought I would get to them on Mondays from now on. Sort of – kick start my week along.

“Did you get new shoes?” – YES. I got Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 from the Delaware Running Company out in Greenville, DE. Thank you again to G-Dog and Caff for that Christmas gift card. I thoroughly enjoyed getting them and definitely need the new kicks.

Speaking of shoes – did you see those shoes that I posted which were worn by Anderson East? Are they cool or what! When my wife and I saw him several years ago and met him, he had those same shoes. I would so wear shoes like that.

He really does “whoops – my clothes just fell off” good looks.

Before any fun stuff, I have to announce that US singer and actor Meat Loaf has died at the age of 74. Last night, the singer passed away with his wife Deborah at his side. Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell album remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time.

In other sad news, Adele has postponed her Las Vegas residency due to COVID-related production delays, the singer announced yesterday before her first show was set to kick off. Rumors are creeping up that she won’t tour again. BUT – in her video that she put out yesterday, she is apologizing for the canceling of shows AND she claims she will be back to do the shows. We shall see.

New Music Friday:

  • Foo Fighters have released a new song from the Fraggle Rock revival series, which airs on Apple TV+ this weekend. The original show from Jim Henson ran from 1983 to 87 for five seasons. But now, we get the new reboot, Back to the Rock. Click here for their song “Fraggle Rock Rock”.
  • Got an old song redone as a new one by Awolnation. It’s a cover of the legendary Scorpions song “Wind of Change” – you also have Brandon Boyd of Incubus and Portugal. The Man singing on it as well. FYI – the original song was released yesterday – 31 years ago. This is the first song from an entire album of covers that will be coming out this May and is called My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers & Me.
  • Hippo Campus released their third single from their upcoming album LP3, which comes out February 4. The song is called “Ride or Die” – actually came out a week ago, but the other night they were on the Late Late Show with James Corden – who my daughter would recognize as being Peter Rabbit. Back to Hippo Campus – the song reminds me of a Vampire Weekend song. Very nice chill sound.
  • Speaking of Vampire Weekend – Lead singer, Ezra Koenig (that’s apparently how he says his last name) was recently interviewed by Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus. Ezra claims to have enough songs for a new Vampire Weekend album. Then, Do it!
  • Full album – Things Are Great – comes out March 4th, but today, we get “Lights” from Seattle band – Band of Horses. I’m looking forward to this one. They are simply a machine for good music. This will be the band’s sixth album. Sneaky rocking, too. I’ve seen them live a couple times and have several of their albums on vinyl. When live – loud and rocking.

Happy Friday Eve!

346 days until EXIT PLAN / Knocked off another day yesterday

And yesterday, I thoroughly enjoyed a podcast from Tim Ferriss who was interviewing Michael Schur – a television producer. He worked for SNL, The Office, created “The Good Place”. I was truly psyched, just wanted to drop everything, go home, and do something.

Video clip of The Office

He’s written a new book that explores moral philosophy with “How to Be Perfect”. I ordered it. Actually, preordered it. It’s available next Tuesday the 25th. I actually was hesitating, but then I heard that the proceeds of the book are being donated to various charities. Too good. Click-click – ordered!

Here’s the link to the podcast.

Another challenge from the Beast himself: David Goggins / 4x4x48 Run Challenge? / Friedrich Nietzsche quote

morning babble / Wednesday 01-19-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Yesterday, I mentioned David Goggins who many consider to be among the world’s best ultra-endurance athletes. I also called him a Beast. And then – someone reached out to me and asked – “Is he really?”

David Goggins daily schedule looks like this:
3:00-4:00 A.M.- Wake Up
4:00 A.M.- Running for 10-15 Miles
5:00 A.M.- Bike 25 Miles to Work
Around 11:00 A.M.- Run during lunch
After Work (varies)- Biking back home
After reaching home- Another 3-6 mile run

This past November – right after Turkey Day – he posted on Facebook about his 4x4x48 challenge.

(Video clip)

Did you get that? It’s running for four miles every four hours for 48 hours. It can be done from anywhere in the world but takes place on a specific date. Earlier in the video, it shows him taking his shirt off and then squeezing out the sweat. Give it a listen.

(Video clip)

That dude’s a beast.

Bring Sally Up Challenge – I only did 13. I’ll get there.

David Goggins is a Beast. So’s Igor. Not so much Moby & myself. / “Bring Sally Up” Push-up Challenge

morning babble / Tuesday 01-18-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

I ran, BUT I also tried something else today. Have you heard of the “Bring Sally Up” Challenge? Not fun. In a recent video, David Goggins shared it on Instagram and described it as “a simple 30 push-up workout that’s not so simple.” It uses lyrics in the song ‘Flower’ by Moby from his 2000 album Play: The B Sides. Here’s how it works. Each time you hear the word “up,” you rise up into the upper end of the movement of a push-up, and then hold that position until you hear the word “down.” You then stay in that lower pose until you hear “up” again, and so forth. Over the course of the song, you “only” do 30 push-ups. Goggins credits this other guy though for creating it.

(Video Clip of Igor Voitenko) Go check out the whole thing here.

Now, I was going to video myself doing it, but after seeing this guy. Well, I just felt he had some things that I didn’t in demonstrating the routine.

(Another Video Clip)

Plus, I only got to 11. Ugh. Go watch the babble.

Netflix, Dave Chang, & Ice Cream Date / Missing my Bro with ABACAB / Quote from John Lewis

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Sometimes the best laid out plans just need to be trashed and you have the ice cream date with your wife and watch Netflix. It was a David Chang show. So, I was all in.

This morning – I ran and enjoyed the Dave Chang Podcast. I do plan on doing a video on his book, which I thoroughly enjoyed and gave away last year to Cecil & Marco. I’ll be doing giveaways for each of my GOATs, but I’ll do a specialty video for each as well.

A lot of you have off to day for MLK day – enjoy it. Some of us have to keep at it and I’m with you. Dig in and get it done. I am home today for a paperwork day, but I do have an alarm set to remind me to shut it down. Otherwise, I could keep it going and that’s not good. I’ve got other stuff to be doing.

Fast over/ New Music Friday: Kane Brown, Korn, Jack White & Whiskey Sour tale/ Candice Millard quote

morning babble / Friday 01-14-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: go watch the video!

Fridays are like Christmas with all this new music.

Let’s discuss a couple quick things:

  1. 3 Day Fast – what broke the fast? A beer – double IPA. What did I eat? Tomato soup and grill cheese sandwiches. I love dipping that sandwich into the soup. Chips. Brownie.
  2. 352 days until EXIT PLAN

New Music Friday:

  • Kane Brown has new music for 2022 – he teased it a little last year in December, but today we get the new song “Whiskey Sour.” Traditional sounding country song – a ballad. It’s nice. It grabbed my attention with “Whiskey Sour.” That’s what my Pop-pop would always order back in the day. He’d order 2. One for him and one for my Nana, but they were both for him. He would always down one and swap his empty glass with Nana’s full one. At the end of the 2nd one, he’d slide that empty one to her side as well. This would always confuse the waiter. My Pop-pop would then ask for a beer because “she doesn’t like beer and won’t steal it.” All of that last part . . . nothing to do with Kane Brown.
  • Avril Lavigne has dropped her first track of the new year – ‘Love It When You Hate Me’ -it’s a collaboration with blackbear, but it will be off of her new album Love Sux which will be released on February 25th. Also on that album, “Bite Me, Bite Me” which was last year’s released single where she was joined by Blink-182’s Travis Barker. Other artists to feature on Love Sux include fellow Blink-182 member Mark Hoppus and the recently engaged Machine Gun Kelly. Yup – engaged. To Megan Fox after less than two years of dating. As long as you hit all 4 seasons and all the holidays – that’s good.
  • Korn’s latest single, “Forgotten” is now out. This song is also the lead-off cut from the band’s new album, Requiem, due out on February 4th. Prior to Christmas 2021 in the UK, a new book that details every song Korn have ever written was released: Korn: Every Album, Every Song by British author Matt Karpe. We can get it in the US on January 28th. The book is a deep-dive into the lyrics, song compositions and stories behind each and every track ever written by Korn – we’re talking B-sides, standalone singles, unreleased material, and songs that were only ever previously featured on film and gaming soundtracks. For the book, click here to preorder on Amazon.
  • Jack White has released ‘Love Is Selfish’. This is the first single to be taken from his second album of 2022, Entering Heaven Alive – that one comes out July 22nd. His 1st album release is coming April 8th with Fear of the Dawn – I actually just preordered the vinyl to that. Special blue record as well as other shtuff. I had Visa gift card from Christmas.
  • There’s other new stuff: Donna Missal, Bright Eyes, Spoon, Lumineers, Chris Brown.

Pulled vs. Pushed – the resistance battle / Day 3 of the 3 Day Fast – I can eat soon! / Ryan Holiday quote

morning babble / Thursday 01-13-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Tapping into my old faithfuls (music, books) to help pull me out of whatever I was feeling last night and then finally push me along. To me, there’s a difference between those two – pulling and pushing.

Pulled – you’re resisting / holding back the momentum

Pushed – merely means that you stopped or you slowed down some

the War of Art by Steven Pressfield – great book to deal with Resistance

Not only is it Friday Eve, it’s also Day 3 of the 3 Day Fast I can eat again at . . . 6:49PM

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Forget about outcomes. Focus on making a little progress every day.” – by Ryan Holiday

Can’t focus on NOT getting to the Exit Plan today, because it’s not going to happen today. Just a little progress every day – that’s what’s going to get me there. Pushing along.

Be sure to get your “me” time / Day 2 of the 3 Day Fast / Michelle Obama quote

So yesterday, I was comparing last week and this week – I’m missing the creative time that I had set aside in the morning, but that was without the run. So today – I didn’t run.

I took care of ME. Be sure to take care of your ME.

354 days until EXIT PLAN

Day 2 of the 3 Day Fast

I did say yesterday that anyone can do this fast. HOWEVER – I must say that I am not a doctor and it’s always good to do a “double check” there. Otherwise, if there’s a doctor’s thumb’s up, you can do this fast. I’m not anything special.
