HAPPY FRIDAY EVE!

I saw a Buffalo Wild Wings commercial for Pumpkin Spice Wings and they looked so good. Then, I saw some people posting on Twitter how good they were.

I have no idea why I never thought about trying them before – BUT I’m going to try them this weekend / Printed out 3 recipes to try

Tomorrow night – Game 1 of the World Series as my beloved Philadelphia Phillies take on those Astros from Houston. Here come the Bandwagon fans. I enjoy a bigger party and celebration, but I do have some angst here. Let me explain.

Back in 2000 – I was working in Baltimore for the first time at a Classic Rock station. Classic Rock that Really Rocks. Anyway, being an overall football fan, I was excited to have the opportunity to cheer on another team besides my Eagles. The Baltimore Ravens – they were in a whole other conference – no big deal. Tony Banks to Trent Dilfer. They didn’t even know the running back – Jamal Lewis. They thought it was still Priest Holmes.

I got picked on a lot for being a band wagon fan from . . . band wagon fans. So much so, that during the Super Bowl – I actually was cheering on the New York Giants.

So, my tips for bandwagon Phillies fans:

Bryce Harper is not a National and Zach Wheeler is not a Met

No – Chase Utley and Cole Hamels are no longer on the team

Yup – that Realmuto behind the plate not Chooch

Yes – that’s a rookie at shortstop, Bryson Stott – not J-roll and certainly not Larry Bowa.

Schmitty is not at 3rd base . . . that’s Alec Bohm who has a tendency to take his shirt off during the playoff celebrations. Some ladies have pointed that out. A lot of ladies.

And finally at first base – it’s not Rice Hoskins . . . it’s Reeeeeese (Rhys) Hoskins.

Go Phillies!

Via someone – “What’s up with Jiu-Jitsu?” Last time I was there was last Wednesday, October 19th. Last night was the first time that I could sleep with my arm up. Close.

Via someone – “With you running . . . another race?” Well, there is the Turkey Trot – 50th Annual in Newark, DE. I’ve done that one twice. In fact, my whole family did it last year. BUT – we do have an event on the night before AND there are plans for the weekend. Not sure yet – I still have time. It’s Saturday, November 19th though. There’s also the Reindeer Run on Friday, December 2nd at night in Newark. We wanted to do that one last year, but missed registration – this year a conflict there too – my daughter has a dance performance.

GOAL SETTING MONDAY

I was listening to a Tim Ferriss podcast this weekend and it was an older one . . . one that I think I’ve even listened to before – from 2019. Anyway – it was Gary Keller from Keller Williams Realty. He’s written a book that’s on my list to get – The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results.

The goal is to have a great day by noon. Events of the morning will then drive your afternoon.

I loved my run today on the mill. It zipped by as I was listening to all the new music that was out as well as the entire new Taylor Swift album.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Last night at Midnight, Miss Taylor Swift released her newest album: Midnights (play a clip), but a couple hours before that she had a teaser trailer played during Thursday Night Football – who won that game? nobody knows. (play clip) Actually, the Cardinals did beat the Saints. Anyway, as you just heard, she was thanking Amazon because that’s what the Thursday Night Football games are being played on this year. I began overthinking things last night and was concerned that she might have an exclusive with Amazon initially on the music. Around 1am this morning, I stirred in bed and honestly went to my Spotify account, just to make sure that it was there. It was – thank you, Taylor. Anyway, I’ve listened to it all. / From the beginning, when I was running on the mill this morning “Anti-Hero” jumped out to me – one of my favs on the album / also, “Snow on the Beach” with Lana Del Ray – enjoyed that one too. Watch the little ones though. Some lyrics sneak up on you. Actually, on the majority of these songs, I’ll need the radio friendly version for my daughter. I mean, one song – track 8 – let’s got hear “Vigilante . . . shtuff?” And that’s cool. I actually enjoy the raw, real, and dark lyrics that Taylor was spewing throughout this album – great music, too. Well done. Also, it appears that a ton of videos / short movies are coming our way with this album. I delayed the Babble this morning because at 8am she debuted the video for “Anti-Hero” – when I heard it first on the mill – I had no idea that it was coming. Once I dug in this morning, well . . . I had to wait. (play clip) At the beginning of this Taylor talk I actually played another clip from that video as well. Swiftie Heaven is upon us.
  • We’ve got new Arctic Monkeys – a whole new album called The Car – 10 songs / 37 minutes of tunage. The band continues to grow musically. I’ve enjoyed their past rock albums, but their most recent one from 2018 Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino was definitely a more chill, relax sound – not necessarily “rock”. This album – The Car – follows along with those similar sounds. (play cut) Appears we have another well done and musically sound album from the Arctic Monkeys – I haven’t listened to all yet, but definitely will this weekend.
  • Emmaline released a new single today “I Wish You Peace” (play clip) About a month ago, she did a collaboration with Anthony Strong and performed a cover of the Crowded House song “Don’t Dream It’s Over” (play clip) Just an amazing voice that I want to say that you don’t necessarily expect? She also rips it on the violin. She is doing a small round of shows in December called “Emmaline Sings the Christmas Classics Tour” – 3 cities New Hampshire / New York / and Philadelphia. My wife and I saw her last year AND we’re going this year too. The show is at the South Jazz Kitchen – awesome place for food but even better for the jazz music that you’re going to hear there. If you’re able to hit any of these shows – I highly suggest you get it onto your calendar.
  • Last new music highlight of the Babble, we get a 6 pack of new songs from Joe Bonamassa – the bluesy guitarist who’s also known for his vintage guitar collection. he has more than 400 guitars and 400 amplifiers – in his Bona-seum. Like that? Anyway, today we get Road to Redemption. I was simply digging on track 1 – “Black Roses” – if the other 5 are like that, we got ourselves a winner.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVE AND SWIFTIE EVE!

Tonight at Midnight . . . it’s Midnights by Taylor Swift – 13 new songs. Apparently, she is releasing a “Midnights” teaser trailer tonight during “Thursday Night Football” via the Amazon broadcast of the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals.

I didn’t run. Not going to push what’s happening here. Sort of like my shoulder. Baby steps of positivity happen and I must allow that to keep going. Last time, I did a 5k run on back to to back days was April 4th and April 5th

PODCAST TUESDAY!

Modern Wisdom with Chris Williamson

He’s had a lot of guests that I’ve enjoyed listening to: Jocko Willink, Dr. Andrew Huberman, Ryan Holiday, James Clear, Robert Greene, Steven Pinker, Mark Manson.

Simple, relaxed conversations. He gets the guest to talk. Plus, he’s from the UK, so I enjoy that accent as well as anyone.

Just finished listening to Anna Lembke episode – from awhile ago – I hunted that one down. It was mentioned within another podcast that I was listening to. Anyway, there are some recent ones that I want to dig into Donald Robertson with Stoicism. Recent one, apparently goes deep into “The Mystery of Female Sex Drive.”

Quite a weekend in Philly sports – I said it last Monday and I was prepared to be sad today. BUT – those Phillies won and moved on in the playoffs. I see you Padres. My Birds (the Eagle) beat those Dallas Cowboys. Even my Orange & Black team won – the Flyers!

Not going to rub it in . . . just going to savor it.

Countdown is also on for Friday or to be exact – Thursday at midnight as Taylor Swift releases her latest album, Midnights. Swift said the album reflects “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.”

GOAL SETTING MONDAY & REVIEW –

Accomplishments –

Desk has been cleaned up.

Last August, I hit my goal that month of 15,000 words for a book that I was working in.

Then, I took a break in September in order to gear up and ready myself for another 15,000 words in October. As it was in the beginning of August, the word tally for October was slow. Unfortunately, I hit a snag with my business and we lost a key employee. I had to shut down my goal for the month and the book has never been revisited.

No BJJ today / leaning towards being out this week, but we’ll see.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Blink-182 – Yes, the classic lineup of Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker have reunited – first time since 2015. Hey, 7 years is long time when you’re a Blink fan. Now, I like the other two albums that they did without Tom, but instead with the other guy from Alkaline Trio – Matt Skiba. In fact, I like the band, Alkaline Trio a lot, so when I heard that Skiba was in for DeLonge – initially, I was like “cool”. BUT – there’s something about the original. I love hearing Tom and Mark singing their own parts on the song and the way it sounds. Barker behind the drum kit – he’s a modern-day “one of the great ones” drummer. Oh and why did Tom come back? DeLonge cites Mark Hoppus’ cancer battle as a factor in his decision to rejoin the band; it “really put things in perspective.” Anyway – new album next spring / new tour next year – dates are out / and new song today. (clip). It’s called “Edging” – google it . . . it’s fun. Only 2 minutes and 33 seconds, but I’m loving it. Thank you Blink and I am glad Tom is back. (Miss you – clip)
  • Tove Lo has a whole new album out today and it was done all by herself – well, it was her first self-released project. The album is called Dirt Femme (fam) 12 songs, almost 40 minutes of new tunage. Although, we have heard a couple already – “True Romance” and “2 Die 4.” Today, the push is on for yesterday’s video released single: “Grapefruit.” Here’s the link to that video. I was going to play that, but I’ve got something else to play. How to say her name – it’s Two Ve Loo, but she still accepts Tove (Dove) Lo (Low). Play clip.
  • New Peter Gabriel – the song is a Leonard Cohen remake called “Here It Is” and it’s wonderful. Gabriel is mainly “talk-singing” like Cohen does on the original, but Peter’s voice these days . . . being the older gentleman that he is at 72 . . . has that rich deep resonating sound coming through. Love it. I was hoping for more songs, but then, I realized that the song was off of a tribute album for the late Leonard Cohen. That album is out today and called Here It Is: A Tribute to Leonard Cohen. All kinds of incredible artists are on there: Norah Jones, Peter Gabriel, Gregory Porter, Sarah McLachlan, Luciana Souza, James Taylor, Iggy Pop, Mavis Staples, David Gray, and Nathaniel Rateliff.
  • Quick Hits:
  • 1) Girl in Red has a new song out “October Passed Me By” – it’s the sequel to 2018’s ‘We Fell In Love In October” AND it has its own short film – should be out shortly – trailer link.
  • 2) Green Day – they shared a previously unreleased song from their Nimrod 25th Anniversary Edition album. The song is “You Irritate Me” – about a minute and 30 seconds, but it’s music from Green Day that you haven’t heard.
  • 3) New Bruce Springsteen – Couple weeks ago, he announced a new covers album called Only The Strong Survive. Today, we get its second release of the Commodores song, “Nightshift.”
