Deep Work “Power Hours” / Meditation? / Book giveaway contest begins! / Sam Harris quote

morning babble / Monday 06-27-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

So, this past weekend – Saturday night – we were at Mimi and Papi’s place for another birthday dinner for my son, Elliott. He has had so many – I’ve gained weight because of his many birthday dinners. Anyway, at one point, both our kids were in the pool and I went to sit by the pool watching them. My mind was racing. I could not relax. I needed to do something. I left my phone back up on the patio area on purpose. I don’t believe that I have a real issue – something’s there – but not an addictive issue. I just couldn’t settle my head. I closed my eyes and tried to lasso it in. At one point, everyone checked on me to make sure that I wasn’t sleeping – I absolutely wasn’t. If only they knew what I was trying to control upstairs. Anyway, it got me thinking of meditation again. I know, I know. Eye roll. But – it is something that I’ve dabbled with before and makes sense.

Last of Obi-Wan & read Empire! / New Music Friday: Taylor, Lil Nas, Dove Cameron / Jay Shetty quote

morning babble / Friday 06-24-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Yeah – today arrived. Bad day yesterday . . . not “Feds invaded my house in the morning bad”, but I was looking forward to the end.

Wings, Beer, Pizza, last episode of Obi-Wan. Last week, I mentioned that there are 10 episodes. I was so wrong. I was looking up something last Friday and read that, but it was an article about the filming and they were thinking it would be 10, but it’s not – just 6. I’ll take what I can get though.

New Music Friday:

  • After being teased for the past several months, the wait is finally over. Taylor Swift dropped the full original song that she wrote for the film: Where the Crawdads Sing. By the way, the movie is out today. We knew the song was coming because 1) we heard bits of the song within the trailer and 2) Taylor teased us on social media. Not making fun – she’s just good at that. If she didn’t want to sing anymore, maybe she could help out the Babble.
  • Last week, I talked about her, but we didn’t have anything new officially OUT. Now, we’ve got something. I’m talking about Beyoncé. Recently, she announced that her next NEW album will be called Renaissance and is out July 29th. 16 tracks and the record includes the subtitle of “Act I.” ANYWAY – we can now listen to one of the new songs: “Break My Soul”
  • Lil Nas X . . . angry. Just released a new single, “Late To Da Party” – you see BET Awards revealed their nominations and Lil Nas X received none. And that’s uncalled for because he’s talented and deserving. There’s some pointed commentary directed towards BET within the song – no kids in the backseat kind of song and that’s all good. By the way, the BET Awards conveniently airs this Sunday and are, of course, late to the party or as the song goes “Late To Da Party.”
  • Dove Cameron released a follow up to her song “Boyfriend”. This one is called “Breakfast.” Within the chorus, ‘I eat boys like you for breakfast / One by one, hung on my necklace / And they’ll always be mine / It makes me feel alive.” If she asks about hanging out . . . uh, no – no, I don’t. I heard your new song, appreciate your honesty, I like the sound of it, but no hanging out.
  • Lastly, Eminem and Snoop Dogg have joined forces for what is being tagged as a bicoastal new song, “From the D 2 the LBC.” We also get a video along with it and within the video Em and Snoop switch between live footage of the rappers and an animated world where they transform into Bored Ape-looking avatars. PODCAST TUESDAY!

Whew – I listened to a new one. It was horrible. I was hoping for something good. It was a podcast with two guys. YouTuber and what I think is a radio guy. Radio guy was really trying – too hard. The YouTuber was definitely uncomfortable with some of the banter direction. It was pointless. So, I’m sorry I’ve got nothing there.

But – my daughter did clean up her bedroom and found the book that I wanted to read with her on Father’s Day.

Whew – that was a weekend! Couple birthday meals out at restaurants for my son, Elliott. Very filling. Father’s Day yesterday. Too much. Anything I lost in weight, I feel like I welcomed it back with open arms after this weekend. “Come on, poundage . . . I missed you so much.” Not really.

It was also Juneteenth yesterday. All kinds of parades, festivals, and concerts took place. Some of you have off today, so enjoy, but also . . . read up on it and know why.

New Music Friday:

  • Beyoncé – she is back. No new song today, but something’s coming soon. It’s been announced that her next NEW album will be called Renaissance and is out July 29th. We’re going to receive 16 magical tracks with this record, which is also being subtitled as “Act I.”
  • Last night, Drake’s seventh studio album titled Honestly, Nevermind dropped. Nearly an hour of new music within 14 songs. It’s Drake’s follow-up to last year’s Certified Lover Boy. The song being pushed is “Falling Back” and, of course, it has a video. Released around midnight and it already has like a 1/2 million views. It’s also a long video with acting. So, if you’re into Drake . . . you can go get your Drake on.
  • Santigold has announced her first studio album in like 6 years. Arriving on September 9th is Spirituals – the follow-up to 2016’s 99¢. It’s being released by her own record company – called Little Jerk Records. We already got the one song “High Priestess” but today we get the new song “Ain’t Ready” – there’s a video too! Here’s the link.
  • There’s a Lana Del Rey cover of Father John Misty’s song: “Buddy’s Rendezvous” and it’s very well done. The cover is included as a 7″ record within a deluxe box set edition of Father John Misty’s new album Chloë and the Next Century. Nevertheless – the cover has now been digitally released. Hear the cover, which is sung predominantly by Del Rey but does have some backing vocals from Misty, below. Father John Misty has also released the “Buddy’s Rendezvous” music video – click here for that.
  • A wonderful, chill sounding album out now from Tone Marrow. The other day he released it onto the world wide web for all to hear his album: Barrens. Now, I talk about books a lot and my home’s house library. That’s where my record player is. I love sitting in my chair and following along to the lyrics of songs. Other times, I enjoy reading and just hearing in the background music and that’s what this just is. All music. Reminds me of a playlist I found on YouTube from Lofi Girl. In fact, when I was looking for it and then found it. That is what I thought I was listening to for a bit, but it was still the Barrens album playing on Spotify in the background. Go check out Tone’s new album.
