MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Music Cut #1 — “What’s My Age Again?”)

By late October of 1999…

blink-182’s “What’s My Age Again?”…

had just reached its peak…

on the Billboard Hot 100.

But that opening riff… has a connection to another punk band.

(Music Cut #2 — Green Day, “J.A.R.” — bass intro)

Back in 1995…

Green Day released “J.A.R.”…

on the Angus soundtrack.

And Mark Hoppus was a HUGE fan of that bass intro.

(Music Cut #3 — “What’s My Age Again?” — opening riff)

In fact, Hoppus has said…

that Green Day’s “J.A.R.”…

helped inspire the opening riff…

of “What’s My Age Again?”

(Music Cut #4 — “What’s My Age Again?”)
