MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Music Cut #1)

Back in October of 1993…

Crash Test Dummies released a song…

with one of the strangest choruses of the decade.

And it wasn’t even supposed to sound like that.

(Music Cut #2 — “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm,” verse)

Brad Roberts wrote a song about three kids…

who all felt like outsiders.

But when he recorded the demo…

there was one part he hadn’t finished writing.

(Music Cut #3 — chorus of “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”)

The chorus!

Those famous four hums…

were supposed to have actual lyrics.

But when his bandmates heard the demo…

they told him NOT to change a thing.

So the part he never finished writing…

became the part EVERYBODY remembered.
