MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Music Cut #1 — “Name”)

By mid-October of 1995…

Goo Goo Dolls were sitting at number one…

on Billboard’s Modern Rock chart…

with “Name.”

(Music Cut #2 — “Name”)

And that distinctive guitar sound?

John Rzeznik discovered it…

while sitting on his couch…

randomly turning the tuning pegs on his guitar.

(Grab the bright pink guitar and pretend to adjust the tuning pegs.)

He wasn’t even sure what notes he was playing!

(Music Cut #3 — “Name”)

FYI – this is my daughter’s (put down the guitar)

So Rzeznik grabbed a tuner…

figured out the notes…

and wrote them down on a Post-it.

(Hold up your blue Post-it: D–A–E–A–E–E)

Three strings tuned to the same note!

(Look at the Post-it.)

Whatever THAT means… it worked!
