MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Music Cut #1 — “#1 Crush”)

Released on this day in 1996…

the soundtrack to Romeo + Juliet…

opened with Garbage’s “#1 Crush.”

(Music Cut #2 — “#1 Crush”)

The song was originally recorded during sessions for Garbage’s debut album

before being remixed for the movie.

And that remix included a distorted vocal sample…

from a completely different artist!

(Music Cut #3 — Madonna, “Bedtime Story”)

Yep! MADONNA!

Her song “Bedtime Story”…

which was co-written by Björk…

was sampled in Garbage’s “#1 Crush” remix!

(Music Cut #4 — “#1 Crush”)
