This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

I ran again on the mill and – Wow – does it feel good again. I really enjoy getting the body going prior to my first coffee of the day.

morning babble / Friday 01-07-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

One of the 3 things that I listed I’m grateful for – “Not hitting the snooze”. Simple little thing, but Wow – the time that is wasted away when you keep punching that snooze – don’t do it.

Another day down – all you Dry January people – here comes your first full weekend of 2022 without alcohol – good luck! 359 days until EXIT PLAN. This weekend is the first time in over a year of no Morning Babble. I’ll be coming back on Monday. My first weigh in of the year, my first run of the year, my first 3 Day Fast of the year begins that night.

New Music Friday:

  • The Weeknd has a new album. Dawn FM is out today. Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, frequent collaborator Oneohtrix (One O tricks) Point Never, as well as actor Jim Carrey. The title track spotlights Carrey assuring listeners that “we’ll be there to hold your hand and guide you through this painless transition.” Minute and a half and then hits into track 2 “Gasoline”, which so doesn’t sound like Audioslave’s “Gasoline.”
  • Father John Misty’s new single “Funny Girl” (& video) out today – very chill song. It’s off his upcoming album Chloë and The Next 20th Century – full album on April 8th.
  • Ben Rector – one of my favorite artists – released the first three songs to his upcoming album, The Joy of Music. “Living my Best Life” – we need some happy music. By the way, he’s got Snoop Dog on one of these upcoming songs. Full album release is in the Spring.
  • Steve Aoki has teamed up with DJ Diesel for the song “Welcome to the Playhouse” Who’s DJ Diesel? Shaquille O’Neal. Not sure if there will be a full album coming, but Shaq did release four rap albums in the 90s including his debut album “Shaq Diesel” in 1993. It was certified as platinum. He did a collaboration with Michael Jackson. He’s also worked with Jay-Z, Method Man, and The Notorious B.I.G. So, besides the 4 NBA Championships, he’s actually done some musical magic.

Dry January and Drinking Less / Happy Friday Eve! / Sylvester McNutt III

morning babble / Thursday 01-06-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Happy Friday Eve!

Dry January – who’s doing it? I’m not, but I applaud whoever is. Last April, I skipped alcohol for that month. I called it my April Drought. I mainly did it for 1) To see if I could; 2) to see what happens with weight, and 3) to see if my sleep improves.

CDC – definition of moderate drinking. 7 drinks a week for women / 14 drinks a week for me

Less app – click here to get it.

One thing that I’m trying to do to help limit the alcohol is simply allowing myself a glass of wine during the pasta meal that we typically have weekly, but otherwise, nothing from Sunday to Thursday. Now, Friday & Saturday – let’s have a beverage.

Mailbox – so full / Newsletter ideas and suggestions / F M Alexander

morning babble / Wednesday 01-05-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

I’m trying to edit and organize it all down. I have been brutal with my personal emails. Over 800 sitting in the inbox. Many of them just subscriptions to newsletters or what not. FOMO is felt with hitting delete all again.

I plan on doing some sort of newsletter beginning in March, but I don’t want to become one of those 800 emails that sit in someone else’s box. I’ve subscribed to a lot because I’m sort of researching what I think is best. The newsletters from Tim Ferriss, James Clear, and Recomendo.

Since its New Year’s Resolution Season, Robin Sharma provided a suggested list to live like in 2022 – click here to see it on his Instagram account.

Creative week is working for me! / Journaling ideas / Martha Graham quote

morning babble / Tuesday 01-04-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

How’s everyone doing with their New Year’s resolutions? Hanging in? Too much? I have a tendency to do that. Just keep going – that’s the trick. It’s okay to trip or stumble a bit along the way. That’s the growing process of the new routine or habit you’re trying to form and build. Just don’t stop.

Enjoying my creative week with no running on the mill. I think I’m going to do this every so often. Not necessarily monthly but at least every other month? Maybe?

Reading Empire (another short by me) aloud and tweaking it. The goal is to post it this weekend. / In the meantime, go check out my short – DECK THE TOILET – that I read! Click here for the video. OR – go read it for yourself and click here.

1st Monday of 2022 / Missed my steps goal? / Lao Tzu quote via Leidy Klotz

morning babble / Monday 01-03-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

1st Monday of 2022 and I’m dealing with snow. What makes decisions difficult with what we do is that we are not just driving to one place and then working for the next 8 hours. We drive somewhere – do the job – and in an hour to an hour & a half head out to another job throughout the day. Or on days like today – throughout the snowstorm. Anyway – glad to get this first one out of the way because by the time we have the 4th or 5th one, everyone won’t be so uptight and the decisions are typically a little easier.

Funny thing with not running yesterday (or today) – I didn’t hit my steps goal. Initially, I thought my watch was broken or something, but then remembered “Oh, yeah – I didn’t get those 7000 ‘steps’ running today.”

New Year, New Goals, More Babble? / What’s next? / Simon Sinek quote

morning babble / Sunday 01-02-22

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

You know what I’m grateful for – having a Sunday after New Year’s Day. We all needed this day to put it all back together.

So, here we are again, but I didn’t run today and won’t. The streak will be over.

2022 is bringing something bigger. That’s my plans. I learned from 2021 via this morning babble of a vlog that I was holding myself accountable to a daily 5K runs and I didn’t want to disappoint. I didn’t want to quit. Last year – I counted up towards the goal of 366 days in a row of 5K runs. This year will be a countdown. I want out of what I’m currently doing. I’m not happy and need to change that.

  1. Morning Babble will continue. Maybe I’m being selfish, but it’s so therapeutic and important to me. I find myself looking forward to reading something good for everyone. Finding an inspiring quote of the day. So, the Babble lives on BUT only Monday through Friday. On the weekends, I plan on working on bigger projects – separate videos. Teaming up with Cecil. Maybe even bringing back Pigskin Gourmet for the umpteenth time.
  2. I’m going to run this year, but not every day. In fact, I don’t think I’m running at all this week. Instead, I’m going to use the extra time in the morning this week to review some writings, organize some thoughts, and do some actual new writing. Remember, you won’t find the time, you need to MAKE the time.
  3. What’s the big overall goal? Countdown to Exit Plan. By the end of the year, I don’t want to have to be on the road anymore for my business. I intend to very much be a part of the company and know that I have a lot of work ahead with the ideas that I want and need to implement. But – I want to be doing more and this past year was a hard lesson learned, I hit some lows that I don’t think a lot of people really know that I hit. I missed some events for my kids that really crushed me inside. I don’t like being sent the pictures. I want to be taking the pictures. Like I said, I was unhappy and I’m out to change all that. So, I invite you all along again as I’ll tell my story, my mini milestones on the journey to Morning Babble’s Countdown to Exit Plan.

Some other random goals for the year:

  1. Finish writing my book! Confessions of a Workaholic
  2. More readings of my shorts – I call them each: Droplet of Life
  3. Weekly Newsletter beginning in March
  4. Guitar Lessons with my daughter
  5. Monthly 3-Day Fasts – yup, I’m doing it again
  6. Create my own Journal
  7. Put together a charity called “Hold my Doll” to help fight for gender equality
  8. Podcast?
  9. Outside weekend adventures with the family – biking, walking, whatevers. Get outside!
  10. Breathe and just keep moving it all forward. All while – “Enjoying the Now”

That’s all I’ve got. A lot of work ahead, but it doesn’t have to all be done this week. Again – I’m very excited to be sharing this all with you.

For 2021 – I ran a 5K every day! / New Music Friday: Katy Perry and her Beer Can Bra / Happy New Year’s Eve!!

morning babble / Friday 12-31-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Happy Friday and Happy New Year’s Eve! Who’s going to nap today?! My kids are pumped because the obvious goal is staying up to midnight. Yeah. I’m napping. Back in the day. Back in radio working days – events would start at 10pm and go to 2am. I remember being at Polyesters in Philly – doing a 4-hour live broadcast and then driving back to my house in Baltimore. I did that. I stayed up. Of course, you wouldn’t see me on Sunday until 12noon or 1pm kick-off.

365! I officially ran a 5K every day for the year 2021. The goal is through tomorrow for 366 days which will be equivalent to a leap year of days

New Music Friday:

  • Katy Perry teamed up with Swedish DJ, Alesso for a new single called “When I’m Gone” / During her debut performance of her Las Vegas residency, she performed in a beer can bra that dispensed beer. On Monday, January 10, the official music video for “When I’m Gone” will premiere when ESPN broadcasts the video at halftime of the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship.
  • Back in June, Flo Rida released his first single of 2021 called “Summer’s Not Ready”. Today – New Year’s Eve, he released his 2nd single of the year called “Wait”. No fancy video out there, just a lyric video on YouTube.
  • Three-time Grammy Award-winning country superstar Miranda Lambert (and Anderson East heartbreaker) has teamed up with Netflix fashion program “Queer Eye” with her new single: “Y’all Means All.” Out today and in time for the debut of the sixth season of the popular streaming program.
