New Music You Almost Missed This Weekend | Twenty One Pilots, King Princess, Little Simz & More!

New Music Weekend / 9/12-9/14/25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Happy Weekend – you know, I can’t wait. I’m gonna play the new Black Pistol Fire (“High Horse” cut) The song is “High Horse” which was released to coincide with their new tour. “They” being “Black Pistol Fire”. They’re going to be in Philly next month – I really can’t wait.

Who’s coming up – Twenty One Pilots – every single one of them (sorry, dad joke, I’m old), King Princess, the Gorillaz, Little Simz and more

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • Twenty One Pilots just delivered their eighth and final album in a conceptual saga that began back in 2015 with their album Blurryface (“Stressed Out” clip with “Blurryface” line) The new album called: Breach provides a resolution to this ongoing story and picks up where their last record, Clancy, left off (“Overcompensate” clip with “I’m Clancy” line) The lead single sets the stage for the rest of the album’s dark tone. Released back in June – this is “The Contract” (“Contract” clip) I have to admit it was their 2nd release that made me sit up and want some more Twenty One Pilots (“Drum Show” clip) Pounding rhythms and a great melody – the song is “Drum Show” and it features the first-ever vocal contribution from drummer Josh Dun (more “Drum Show” clip) The final single released came along with a nearly ten-minute-long music video that directly concludes the tale with throwbacks to their past videos. It’s also the album’s opening track and it’s an epic one – “CIty Walls” (“City Walls” clip) With Breach, Twenty One Pilots give you a total of 13 songs, the 3 just talked about were released as singles. Digging deeper into the album, another song to tap the water with is “Garbage” (“Garbage” clip)
  • The singer, songwriter, and producer from Brooklyn – King Princess – first gained fame with her hit single “1950” (“1950” clip) The first artist signed to Mark Ronson’s label, Zelig Records, was King Princess. She was there for her first two albums, but has now gone independent with her third album: Girl Violence (“Girl Violence” clip) The album’s title track “Girl Violence” is also the opening track which sets the dark, moody tone for what’s coming next (“Cry Cry Cry” clip) That’s the album’s second release – “Cry Cry Cry” – which certainly captures the album’s vibe with a sarcastic take on heartbreak. According to King Princess, this was written about a past breakup and the realization that the relationship wasn’t right. (more “Cry Cry Cry” clip) Looking past the three prior released singles, the song I found the most intriguing was the deliciously confusing song called “Jaime” which captures the conflicting feelings of a crush on a “mean girl.” (“Jaime” clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: one of my favorites that I only got into this year but she’s been around since like 2015. I’m talking about Little Simz. She released a single called “Don’t Leave Too Soon” which is off the soundtrack of the new film, Steve, in which Little Simz also stars. We can enjoy the song today, but we need to be patient for the movie’s arrival to Netflix on October 3rd // 5 New Albums that are available at your fingertips this weekend: Matt Maeson, Ed Sheeran, Dance Gavin Dance, Ice Cube, and Spinal Tap – yes, the fictional band is back with a new album coinciding with the release of their new movie – The End Continues // Damon Albarn (all-barn) has officially announced the next Gorillaz album. The follow-up to 2023’s Cracker Island is called The Mountain. We’ll get to enjoy it all on March 20th – 2026 – that’s a week before my birthday – wow! In the meantime, we do get to enjoy one of these 15 tracks early – thanks Damon – here’s “Happy Dictator” (“Happy Dictator” clip)

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Running My Own Super Mario Bros. Game | 5K Day 256

5K EVERY DAY – Day #256

(A clip of the intro to “Jump”)

Today is the anniversary of the release of Super Mario Bros – the game. The year was 1985 and that game has gone on to be a great reminder that every journey has a goal you have to keep moving or jumping towards.

(More “Jump” clip)

Not only is there a lot of jumping needed to reach the end goal, but running as well. By the way, I ran today.

(Video Slide of Day #256)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“If you’re going to do something, do it.” – by David Lee Roth

And every single day, my run is where I prove that. Could use some more subscribers though, too.

I’m Running to Become ‘Unstoppable’ with Inspiring Words from Jesse Owens | Day 255

5K EVERY DAY – Day #255

(“Unstoppable” clip from Sia)

Today is the birthday of the legendary athlete Jesse Owens – a symbol of incredible determination and of making a dream come true.

(More “Unstoppable” clip from Sia)

It might be a little extreme stating that my 5K Every Day is a dream, but it’s certainly my daily goal that I try to make a reality. And today – it came true again – I ran.

(Video Slide of Day #255)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” – by Jesse Owens

My 5K Every Day streak has proven to me that it’s the daily effort that makes a dream or goal unstoppable. By the way, I love Sia!

Don’t Break My Stride | My 5K is My All-Time Hits Record | Day 254

5K EVERY DAY – Day #254

(“Break My Stride” – Matthew Wilder)

On this date, back in 1985, Pete Rose broke the all-time hits record for Major League Baseball, a testament to his incredible consistency.

(more of “Break My Stride” – Matthew Wilder)

You don’t have to be a professional athlete to set a record. My run today – for myself – another record.

(Video Slide of 5K Day #254)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Every day is a new record.” – by Pete Rose

Like I said, my 5K Every Day streak is my own personal record. And – with every single day I get out there, I break it all over again. Go out and set yourself one.

Channeling Rage on the Treadmill | Running with grandson | Day 253

5K EVERY DAY – Day #253

(Intro to “Pull the Trigger”)

This past weekend for New Music Weekend – I talked about the new album from grandson

There’s a lot of anger all bundled up in that record called INERTIA

(Harder sound from “Pull the Trigger”)

I have been thoroughly enjoying it playing in my ears on the treadmill these past couple runs as well as today’s run

(Video Slide of Day #253)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“I have a lot of rage, and it’s channeled into something productive.” – by grandson

I am right there with him. Every single day, my run is where I channel all of my built-up frustration into a positive result. The problem is that I might have keep running through next year.

Billie Jean King’s Secret to Running ‘The Power of Love’ | Day 252

5K EVERY DAY – Day #252

(Musical intro to “Power of Love”)

Yeah – the Edge Gym DJ was at it again – this time playing Huey Lewis

(“Power of Love” clip of “It’s the power of love, it’s a curious thing.”)

But hear me out – there’s a comparison here that I can do.

(“Power of Love” clip of “Make one man weep, make another man sing.”)

Some days the run feels easy and makes you want to “sing,” while other days it can be a tough struggle that makes you want to “cry” or “weep” as Huey says

(Video Slide of Day #252)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Champions keep playing until they get it right.” – by Billie Jean King

Today is the birthday of the amazing artist P!nk. She’s a performer who has built a career on being fierce and defiant, and she’s not a person who lets anything get in her way.

(More “Raise Your Glass” clip)

I’m pushing hard on not allowing anything to stop me from reaching my goal of 5K Every Day – I ran

(Video Slide of 5K Day #251)

QUOTE OF THE DAY actually doing LYRIC OF THE DAY:
“Just because it burns doesn’t mean you’re gonna die. You gotta get up and try, try, try.” – by P!nk / Happy 46th!

So far this year, I have 251 trys that I’ve succeeded on with the 5K Every Day – please cheer me on if you can.

Album vs. Mixtape: Dominic Fike’s New Project | Missed Music Monday

missed music monday / Monday 09-08-25

(“Missed Again”)

A traditional studio album is obviously commercialized to make that artist and the record company some money. A mixtape can be a more personal or experimental body of work like the one that Dominic Fike dropped a couple weeks ago.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

Dominic Fike’s project Rocket arrived with 12 songs but he is stressing that this is NOT an album but a mixtape. Nevertheless, he still maintains his signature sound that blends pop, alternative, and hip-hop.

(“Smile” clip)

That song “Smile” along with “All Hands on Deck” and “Aftermath” were the lead singles released earlier. Spinning through these other songs, I’ve enjoyed “Quite the Opposite” – that’s a song. As well as “Sandman”

(“Sandman” clip)

Be sure to check Rocket from Dominic Fike.

My Daily Run Is a Sporting Event (ESPN, I’m Available) | Day 250

5K EVERY DAY – Day #250

(Intro “Come Baby Come” – K7)

Today back in 1979, the network that made sports an everyday event was launched – ESPN

(More “Come Baby Come” – K7)

My 5K Every Day run is a little like that – my own daily sporting event. As for the roaring crowd, well that was just me, BUT if ESPN wants to stop by . . . I am available.

(Video Slide of 5K Day #250)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is.” – by Vince Lombardi

I’m just trying to win the daily battle against myself to keep this streak going. Today, I won.

G. Love’s Idea for the Weekend and New Albums from Henrik, Rob Thomas, grandson & Tame Impala

New Music Weekend / 9/5-9/7/25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Happy Weekend! You know: G. Love & Special Sauce just released a new song about weekends (clip of “Weekends Are For Making Love”) I believe they have a very good idea going there. Cheering everyone on for a good weekend.

Who’s coming up for New Music Weekend: grandson, Henrik, Rob Thomas. I’ve also got some rumors of new music.

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • I’ve heard about bed rotting which is the practice of spending many hours in bed with an electronic device – a phone – as a voluntary retreat from activity or stress. (soft opener for “Brainrot”) On his new album – INERTIA – grandson unleashes a furious critque of social media and how it distracts us from the important issues – this is “Brainrot” (harder hook of “Brainrot” clip) The album is pulsating with hostility as a direct response to what grandson sees as an overall lack of empathy spreading everywhere (soft intro to “God is an Animal” clip) “God is an Animal” was the 1st song written for the record and a grandson personal favorite. Yeah, he’s mad (hard hook of “God is an Animal”). This ferocious, abrasive rock sound emiting throughout the album is being compared to bands like Rage Against the Machine and Linkin Park – that’s badass company (“Bury You”) I’m digging the opening track – “Bury You”. Unlike his previous albums which often had electronic elements, INERTIA was all recorded with live instruments. This is grandson’s 3rd studio album and I have one more song to highlight and it’s the one sporting his newest video – “Autonomous Delivery Robot” (“Autonomous Delivery Robot”)
  • South Jersey native, Henrik, just dropped an homage of an album to his roots in Woodstown, New Jersey, specifically the street he grew up on – North Main Street (“Adaline” clip) The song “Adaline” was one of 5 singles released off this album prior to its full 12 song drop. Another one of those early released singles was “Interlocking” (“Interlocking” clip) In that video – you can see the pants of the 25-foot tall cowboy Muffler Man who is the mascot of the Cowtown Rodeo and Farmer’s Market in Woodstown (picture of the Muffler Man) I’ve passed through Woodstown, NJ many many times. I can recognize those cowboy pants from anywhere. That didn’t sound right. Let’s play another Henrik song (“Mr. Businessman” clip) “Mr. Businessman (Coming down)” is a song that we are all hearing for this first time. It’s one that offers a unique perspective on the pressures of success and the struggles of feeling overwhelmed by a fast-paced life (more “Mr. Businessman”) Some people have named Henrik the “Christian rapper”, but his music has definitely evolved into a folk-rock style. I do like the way he describes his sound as “South Jersey music.” Go enjoy his album – North Main Street //
  • Several quick hits of new music: Kevin Parker, the artist behind Tame Impala, has called his new single “Loser” the second release of a new era. We get the full experience of this new era when his album – Deadbeat – drops in its entirety on October 17th // 5 Rumors of new music on the way from Limp Bizkit, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Gorillaz, and Frank Ocean. Again – rumors // 5 New Albums that you very much can check out this weekend: Big Thief, David Byrne, Joni Mitchell – which is actually a boxset of over 60 songs, Hot Chip and the Smurfs Soundtrack – where you get Cardi B, DJ Khaled, and more – good smurfy stuff // Back in June of 1997, I went to the Y100 Fez-tival in Camden, NJ. There was band roaming around amongst us regular peeps called Matchbox Twenty (“3AM” clip) If you’re getting a call at 3AM – nevermind. Good song. Lead man – Rob Thomas just dropped another solo album of his called All Night Days. I’m still listening through it all, but the one that just had a video released along with it is a good one to enjoy – this is “Machine” (“Machine” clip)

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.
