“Quote of the Day” – Wednesday 10-25-23

morning babble / Wednesday 10-25-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Animal cut

This past week marks 30 years of Pearl Jam’s second studio album, Vs. There are many incredible songs on that record. I believe “Animal” is one of my favs.

Morning Babble intro

Happy Weekend – Today’s Babble almost didn’t occur. My work life interfering with my “fun” life. I think the only other time I was this late was when I was in Paris. That’s a good excuse. Can’t use that one too much. (clip)

To celebrate the anniversary of Vs, Ten Club is releasing a 30-anniversary edition double-LP on custom “Dreamsicle” color variant vinyl and cassette, as well as on black vinyl at participating stores. That’s via a social media post of the band.

On October 19th, 1993, between classes at the University of Delaware, I went to Rainbow Records on Main Street in Newark, DE and purchased Vs. WHICH at that moment in time – we didn’t even know as “Vs.” (clip) Now, I bought another CD that day, which came out the prior month on September 21, 1993. In Utero

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • If you have tolerated the Babble for awhile, then you should really know by now that I like blink-182 (like it a lot) By the way, looking for these other CDs, I found Enema of the State and the promotional single for Blink-182’s “Feeling This” (clip) Their new album – One More Time – is all out in its glory today. 17 songs, nearly 45 minutes of blink tunes. I know what I’m doing all weekend. I’ve already listened through it once entirely, this one was jumping out to me: “Blink Wave”
  • Recorded up north in Toronto, the Sam Roberts Band has come out with their 8th studio album and their first one since 2020. This one is called The Adventures of Ben Blank. Lead singer – Sam Roberts – was interviewed on the radio by Adam Ricard of indie88 (clip) All of this can be found on the station’s website (I’ll provide a link). Indie88’s David Kennedy wrote “Ben Blank is the narrator of the new album and he’s a man in a constant state of creation, simultaneously ancient and endlessly reborn.” I found the interview well worth it – I’ll provide that link as well. Bottomline though – I’m really looking forward to listening to this one straight through and hearing the story as it unfolds. “The Ballad of Ben Blank.” (clip)
  • Qveen Herby – missed this one. Don’t know why, because I followed her former band, Karmin (clip – “Brokenhearted”) Karmin was actually her “Qveen Herby” and her husband as “Karmin.” But then back to 2017, there was another social media post “Karmin Is Dead, Long Live the Qveen.” Hence, a transition occurred. She’s still with her husband. Anyway, back in August – at the very end – alright about two months ago. Qveen Herby released an album called Housewife – 7 songs. I’m still learning them but I found this one “G-Spot” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Alkaline Trio – that’s the band with Matt Skiaba on lead vocals. He uh filled in for Tom DeLonge for 2 blink albums. Amused that they released a single today called “Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs.” // Taylor Swift slammed together a 3-pack of songs and called them “The Cruelest Summer” – it’s Cruel Summer original, a remix, and a live version from her Eras tour // Unofficially, this song has been circulating for quite some time now online. But now it’s officially out as Caroline Polachek shared her long-awaited single “Dang.”

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

Found a 5k race to run on Saturday, October 28th – it’s called “Boo & Brew”

Babble Intro

Happy Day – I’ve been meaning to get this update out on my running goals.

I wasn’t able to do the Faithful Friends 5k last month, but I am so determined to do this one.

Again, it’s Saturday morning, October 28th in Newark, DE via The Midnight Oil Brewing Company and Friends of Fusion Foundation // Click here for run information

Let’s get into what I’m doing to prepare for the race

1. Game Plan – How Much Running?

Every Day this Week / Once the weekend hits – probably just Sunday / Then, Tues & Thurs

Angry Run Playlist – I’ll probably add that Midnight Oil “Beds are Burning” song

I was thinking of getting myself a Rucking vest – you know a weighted vest – like a backpack?

Yoda clip

I changed my mind. I’m trying to lose some weight instead

2. Diet – To Fast or Not To Fast

Not going to fast this month – first time in nearly 3 years – I’ve done it for 33 months in a row – a 3-Day Fast. This month – it comes to an end.

I find myself weakened after a fast and it takes me about 2 weeks to ramp back up.

3-Day fast should be next week

I thrive on a strict, routine diet / Tim Ferriss has the Slow Carb Diet with a “cheat day” / This was written about in the 4-Hour Body and the 4-Hour Chef

I actually started my own specialty diet this past Sunday night – I’m still using the Zero app despite it not being a “fast” fast – Broth, Brewed Coffee, Grilled Chicken breast in the evening, and 2 cups of Frozen Blueberries

(Modern Family clip)

I have to brush my teeth alot because of the blueberries

3. Alcohol – To IPA or Not To IPA

No drinking because real athletes don’t drink alcohol right / Phillies celebration scene

They’re not really drinking it, right.  Sorta spraying it all over the place

“Attaboy, Phillies. Winning during the regular season doesn’t mean squat when you keep doing it in the post season”

Sleigh Bells – “Tell “Em” cut again

Sorry – I was told to stick to my new music shtick – probably a Braves fan. There is new Christmas music that’s out

Mark Tremonti “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” cut

Morning Babble Intro

It’s a “Friday the 13th” Weekend in October and I’m talking about Christmas. It is new music though. We just heard a clip of the first release off of a Christmas album from Mark Tremonti – one of the founding members of both Creed and Alter Bridge (cut) That’s actually Myles Kennedy on vocals in that video / Mark Tremonti was on guitar. I don’t want to get emails that I misled you. Two weeks – October 27th – we get “Christmas Classics New & Old” – Tremonti partnered up with an orchestra for work on the holiday album. By the way, he has an album called “Tremonti Sings Sinatra” – it’s really good. (clip)

Quick bit of Music New: Taylor Swift – heard of her? She’s everywhere. I don’t know why KC fans would complain – they haven’t lost a game yet with her in the crowd – she’s their lucky charm (clip) Out all weekend, you have a shot at a unique experience with the premiere of the concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.” I am NOT going. My wife and daughter are though. But, if my wife still isn’t feeling well, I could take one for the team (clip).

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • More new blink-182 is out yet again – full album is still set for next Friday the 20th. This is the first new album with the classic lineup of Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker in over 10 years (clip of Rock Show). Funny to say “classic.” Anway – We have already received and enjoyed: “EDGING,” “MORE THAN YOU KNOW,” “DANCE WITH ME,” the title track “One More Time.” And now – “Fell in Love” a love song (clip) sort of a love song – they’re close (clip) By the way, before next Friday, we’ll get another new song on the 18th called “You Don’t Know What You’ve Got.” Dramatic Pause – sorry, I don’t have that clip quite yet (shocking)
  • Another band to keep releasing new songs from their upcoming album is the Black Pumas. Out now – “Angel,” which is the third song and video off their upcoming new album: Chronicles of a Diamond. By the way – “Angel” isn’t really a new song. Nearly a year ago, they released a live version of this song on their YouTube channel and it’s been an ongoing part of their concert sets for a while now – so true fans and concert goers won’t be too surprised. We’ll still take it though – here’s “Angel.” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Bad Bunny has dropped a new album: Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana which in English means “Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow” Song being pushed today on Spotify is “MONACO” // Megan Thee Stallion has released the new song “Out Alpha the Alpha.” It appears on the soundtrack of the new film Dicks: The Musical // Offset has shared his long-awaited sophomore solo album Set It Off – Guest appearances include Future, Travis Scott, Cardi B and more. // Missed this song back on 9/6 “The Place That Makes Me Happy” by the Moss. I’m going to have to dig a little deeper on this band. (clip)
