What? It could be Christmas music. / Oh wait . . . we got that coming too.

Cher – “DJ Play A Christmas Song”

Morning Babble Intro

Happy Weekend! We’ll get to New Music Friday shortly.

But let’s talk about Cher – she does have a new Christmas album out – it actually came out a couple weeks ago and is called Christmas – that’s it. Nearly 40 minutes of new music over 13 songs – both covers and originals. But when you say Cher to me? (clip) My little boy head still goes to my real first-time experience with Cher (clip) I think we all know what’s coming – leather jacket, fishnet stockings, a thong, tattooed booty (clip) I guess I wasn’t a little boy but I was only a sophomore in high school. I couldn’t handle that. Probably still can’t handle that. If I Could Turn Back Time – Cher. (clip)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • Courtesy of AI, the Beatles have finally unveiled their final song – about time, huh. The track is centered around the vocals of John Lennon. Back in 1994, George, Paul, and Ringo worked on this vocal track that was found. However, since the audio quality was very negative, the track was shelved. (clip) OR – AI to the rescue – it better enhanced Lennon’s voice and they finished it. This is “Now and Then” (clip)
  • Emmaline – This lady I have seen several times in Philly at the South Jazz Kitchen. She’s actually there this upcoming weekend on Fri, Sat, & Sun. Always puts on a wonderful show. She recently dropped a new song and video. By the way, I was reading the comments made about this video on YouTube and this one made me laugh “DAMN! This woman can sing the phone book and it would be cool AF” – The guy is right. This is Emmaline with “Cozy November.” (clip)
  • Got another band here that I saw in Philadelphia who put on a show filled with non-stop energy and fun – Fitz and the Tantrums (clip) – they’ve got a holiday album coming out next Friday (11/10) called: Perfect Holiday. Today we get “Give Love This Year.” (clip)
  • On Friday, December 1st, we’re getting a follow-up to last year’s Philadelphia Eagles Holiday Album – A Philly Special Christmas. This year its called: A Philly Special Christmas Special. Two specials are in that new title. Again though, it does go for a great cause and benefits Children’s Crisis Treatment Center and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Preorders are underway – now. I’ll provide the link: Click here! In the meantime, we do have the album’s first release. Jordan Mailata is on lead vocals with Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce being his elf helpers on background vocals. I think we all know this Mariah Carey song too (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Olivia Rodrigo shares a new Hunger Games song “Can’t Catch Me Now” – movie is out in 2 weeks // I really like this one from Megan Thee Stallion where she raps about mental health. The new song is called “Cobra” // Today, Cold War Kids have dropped in its entirety their 10th studio album called: Cold War Kids // Kid Cudi got Travis Scott and Pharrell to play sing along on his new song “At The Party” //

Who else is ready for Daylights Savings Time to end? Push them clocks back an hour on the Saturday overnight – so ready!

Guess what else I’m ready for Starbucks holiday drinks. All out in their glory today. BUT – still no Gingerbread Latte or Eggnog Latte. However, I can still get my Chestnut Praline Latte – that’s a delightful one.

Happy Monday – talking about some goals on a Monday. Haven’t done this in awhile.

Setting ’em up / Knocking ’em down

I can say that I did this “I ran” / Here’s the bib that I wore (bib clip)

It was the “Boo & Brew” 5k race this past Saturday via The Midnight Oil Brewing Company and Friends of Fusion Foundation

My goal was to set a set a PR (Personal Record) for a 5K run. I’ll get to the part about the PR later, but first, This is follow up what I did to prepare for this race

1. Game Plan

I ran hard every day last week AND on Friday – it was 10k. I pushed hard by a friend of mine too – felt great to have that happen. This past weekend – only ran on Sunday.

Arms hurt because of pull-ups / BJJ – coming for you (Will Ferrell clip)

2. Diet – Definitely Ate!

Last week, I did my own specialty diet for 5 Days – Black Coffee for Breakfast, Bone Broth for Lunch, Grilled Chicken breast for dinner / Snacking – 2 cups of Frozen Blueberries.

Did it because I wanted to lose some weight to go faster. Which did happen.

What I was trying to avoid which I experience during a 3-Day Fast is the slight cramping in the legs, a lethargic feeling, But – I got those AND headaches.

Losing weight – i will be shaving . . . just like a swimmer before a big race. Michael Phelps. (Phelps video)

3. Attire – Definitely Dressed!

Did you know that there are naked 5K runs? Next year – April 27th, 2024 – in Wildwood there’s the 26th Annual Skinnydipper Sun Run 5K. I’m not doing it. (Seinfeld clip) Don’t need that.

4. Breathing – it’s Important

Mouth Tape / Inhaler / Two quick breaths in, one long exhale – Breathing Technique

5. P.R. Set? / Nope!

Next up – 51st Annual Newark Turkey Trot 10k / 5k on November 18, 2023 Newark, DE

I’ve got some work ahead

B-Girls clip

Brent. “B” stands for Brent and Babble.

B-Girls clip

I’m sorry. Sometimes, I remember songs from my youth and just want to hear them again

B-Girls clip

Morning Babble Intro

Happy Weekend! Music makes smile. That song – “B-Girls” is from 1989 courtesy of the Hip-Hop duo, Young and Restless, not the soap opera (clip) that’s The Young and the Restless which by the way is on Season 51 – little much. Back to “B-Girls” – that song is about girls who specifically target guys who possess items starting with the letter B – I’d be a hot item – that makes “B-Girls” the OG of Gold Digger songs (clip)

I’m ready for the run / ready to set a new personal record / even shaved – like a swimmer – I’m Michael Phelps ready

New Music Friday:

  • Green Day has a new album coming out in 2024 and we don’t have to wait too long into the new year in order to experience this musical joy – January 19th to be exact. Album title is Saviors. One of the very last songs apparently to be created for this new album is experiencing the moment of being the first one let loose unto the world. We get a video and everything – it’s “The American Dream is Killing Me” (clip) by the way . . . they are older – the Green Day boys, but they’re dressed as zombies in the video (clip)
  • The Kills have announced their God Games Tour to go along with their new album: God Games which is officially out today – nearly 40 minutes of it all packaged up nicely within 12 songs. The threesome of songs that we’ve already gotten were the singles “New York” / “LA Hex” / “103.” The song being pushed today includes a new video as well, here’s “Wasterpiece” (clip)
  • Plain White T’s – remember them? (Delilah drop) they recently announced that a new album is coming out November 17th. 8 albums in and for their 9th – self titled: Plain White T’s. The new song and video out, I quite enjoyed: “Fired Up” (clip)
  • I’ve been looking forward to this one – how much so? I already went out and got the vinyl – Black Pumas: Chronicles of a Diamond. When I’m chilling this weekend, it will be in the house library and listening to this album. New song and video that just dropped days ago – it’s a fun song – called “Ice Cream (Pay Phone)”
  • Several quick hits of new music: Nicki Minaj has, once again, postponed the release date for her next LP, Pink Friday 2. It was supposed to be out last Friday, then, November 17th, but now, it’s scheduled for December 8th – her birthday. // The Beatles’ final song, with a little help from AI, is out November 2nd aka next Thursday – it’s called “Now and Then” // This one snuck up on me – I totally missed that Gaslight Anthem’s new album: History Books is out today – this is a great band to deep dive on too – go listen to all their old stuff too. In the meantime, the song being pushed today is: “Spider Bites” (clip)

Animal cut

This past week marks 30 years of Pearl Jam’s second studio album, Vs. There are many incredible songs on that record. I believe “Animal” is one of my favs.

Animal cut

Morning Babble intro

Happy Weekend – Today’s Babble almost didn’t occur. My work life interfering with my “fun” life. I think the only other time I was this late was when I was in Paris. That’s a good excuse. Can’t use that one too much. (clip)

To celebrate the anniversary of Vs, Ten Club is releasing a 30-anniversary edition double-LP on custom “Dreamsicle” color variant vinyl and cassette, as well as on black vinyl at participating stores. That’s via a social media post of the band.

On October 19th, 1993, between classes at the University of Delaware, I went to Rainbow Records on Main Street in Newark, DE and purchased Vs. WHICH at that moment in time – we didn’t even know as “Vs.” (clip) Now, I bought another CD that day, which came out the prior month on September 21, 1993. In Utero

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • If you have tolerated the Babble for awhile, then you should really know by now that I like blink-182 (like it a lot) By the way, looking for these other CDs, I found Enema of the State and the promotional single for Blink-182’s “Feeling This” (clip) Their new album – One More Time – is all out in its glory today. 17 songs, nearly 45 minutes of blink tunes. I know what I’m doing all weekend. I’ve already listened through it once entirely, this one was jumping out to me: “Blink Wave”
  • Recorded up north in Toronto, the Sam Roberts Band has come out with their 8th studio album and their first one since 2020. This one is called The Adventures of Ben Blank. Lead singer – Sam Roberts – was interviewed on the radio by Adam Ricard of indie88 (clip) All of this can be found on the station’s website (I’ll provide a link). Indie88’s David Kennedy wrote “Ben Blank is the narrator of the new album and he’s a man in a constant state of creation, simultaneously ancient and endlessly reborn.” I found the interview well worth it – I’ll provide that link as well. Bottomline though – I’m really looking forward to listening to this one straight through and hearing the story as it unfolds. “The Ballad of Ben Blank.” (clip)
  • Qveen Herby – missed this one. Don’t know why, because I followed her former band, Karmin (clip – “Brokenhearted”) Karmin was actually her “Qveen Herby” and her husband as “Karmin.” But then back to 2017, there was another social media post “Karmin Is Dead, Long Live the Qveen.” Hence, a transition occurred. She’s still with her husband. Anyway, back in August – at the very end – alright about two months ago. Qveen Herby released an album called Housewife – 7 songs. I’m still learning them but I found this one “G-Spot” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Alkaline Trio – that’s the band with Matt Skiaba on lead vocals. He uh filled in for Tom DeLonge for 2 blink albums. Amused that they released a single today called “Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs.” // Taylor Swift slammed together a 3-pack of songs and called them “The Cruelest Summer” – it’s Cruel Summer original, a remix, and a live version from her Eras tour // Unofficially, this song has been circulating for quite some time now online. But now it’s officially out as Caroline Polachek shared her long-awaited single “Dang.”
