new music friday / Friday 01-31-25

(New Music Friday Intro)

One month already gone for 2025 – We got a full weekend of February. Goals – keep going everyone! For new music, we’ve got Sleigh Bells, David Kushner, TORRES & Julien Baker, as well as some dude named The Weeknd.

(Countdown Video)

New Music Friday:

  • Back in 2010, this duo of band released an album called Treats that I simply loved and unfortunately fell off my radar (“Tell Me”) I’m putting that on my running playlist – when you hear that – how can NOT get hyped up (little more) ANYWAY – the band is Sleigh Bells and they are back with their first new music in basically 3 years (clip) Song is called “Wanna Start A Band?” – now the story that’s been told has a song to go along with it. You see – back in 2008, while Alexis Krauss was eating at a restaurant in Brooklyn with her mom, their server, Derek, eventually asked during the meal – “Wanna Start A Band?” (clip)
  • Three years, David Kushner released the song “Miserable Man” and it went viral on TikTok (clip) Between then and now, he’s tallied up his fair share of music (“Daylight”) Today though, via his own label – Miserable Music Group, he’s released “Breathe In, Breathe Out” (“Machinehead” clip) But – that’s not it. That’s Bush. Don’t worry, we’ll get to David’s. His new EP arrives on Valentine’s Day called 20 Years From Now and without any further delay let’s hear that new song from David Kushner (clip)
  • Last January, TORRES released an album called: What an enormous room. (“Collect” cut) Also last year, Julien Baker was putting a wrap on her tour with boygenius (clip) After a whole lotta teasing, TORRES and Julien Baker have finally announced their new combo album: Send a Prayer My Way (clip) The indie rockers have turned toward a country sound. Album comes out April 18th. Let’s hear the new song that was released called “Sylvia” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: The final entry in a trilogy of albums that began in 2020, The Weeknd has released Hurry Up Tomorrow // Lady Gaga has finally announced the release of her next album (March 7th) which had been known as LG7, but now is offically called Mayhem. FYI – she’s releasing a new song that will premiere during the Grammy’s this weekend – during a commercial break. Don’t be so quick to hit the bathroom. // As we creep closer & closer to Valentine’s Day, The Lumineers are treating us to more of their new album: Automatic. (cut) That’s actually track #1 “Same Old Song” which I’ve totally been digging. Today’s release is called “You’re All I Got” (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

HOKA to the Rescue! / One Month Down, Eleven To Go / “Quote of the Day” from Jeremy Goldberg

5K EVERY DAY

(“Tell ‘Em”)

I just added that song to my running playlist, which I will share at some point in time soon. The band is Sleigh Bells and they have new music out, which you’ll be able to hear about on this (show card).

(“Wanna Start a Band?”)

In the meantime, 5K Every Day – One Month Down, Eleven to Go

(Day #31)

So yes – I ran. AND – an update on the ankle – still hurts. I’ve been elevating it, heating up cornbags for it, and I’ve switched up my shoes.

(“That’s Shocking”)

As my daughter calls them – my pretty shoes – HOKA Mach X from last year. Tread is bad, but I’m hoping it helps change things up.

(“I can feel it coming in the air tonight”)

Happy Friday Eve! AND – Happy Birthday to this drummer boy!

(Drum solo)

Mr. Phil Collins is 74 years old (young) today. Growing up, he is definitely the one that inspired me to love music and to keep digging for more and more.

5K EVERY DAY – Day #29

(“Hurts So Good”)

Not sure if I’m a fan of the hurt, but I did run.

(Day #29)

So, I’ve mentioned before that I’m feeling less puffy. Unfortunately, this past Monday morning, I woke up with my right ankle puffy and pouting. It’s been tough these past several days – sorta channeling my inner Goggins.

(clip)

I’m not even going to work the numbers for the push-ups and pull-ups – it’s a lot. But the 120 mile week. 17 miles a day. I’m just trying to do a 5K.

I’m pushing onwards. I’m being careful. Please don’t tell my mom.

5K EVERY DAY – #28

(“Whoomp! There It Is”)

Ever want a theme song for yourself? Today, I have a quote from Will Ahmed, founder and CEO of Whoop and I realize that he doesn’t have an M in his business title, but I so think he should have Tag Team recut it for him.

(“Whoomp! There It Is”)

I’ve told my wife if I win an award and they ask what should be played for me after the announcement.

(“Party Hard”)

Andrew W.K. What award? I ran.

(#28)

(Countdown Video)

Let’s hear a little more but this time with FKA twigs (clip)

5K EVERY DAY

(A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You)

I was trying to find a song that mentioned morning routine and somehow I took a tangent towards The Monkees. Oh Neil Diamond wrote that song – just like this one.

(I’m A Believer)

So – yeah, I was looking for a morning routine song, but found nothing
