Missed Music Monday – 08-12-24

morning babble / Monday 08-12-24

DISCLAIMER:

This is the scribble that leads to the babble.

Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.

When all else fails: there’s video!

(“Coffee” cut)

That’s the first song Beabadoobee ever wrote on the guitar AND it’s one of my most favorite things in the whole wide world – Coffee.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

Beatrice Kristi who is Beabadoobee, which is actually more fun to say than Francisco

(“Franciso” cut)

Beabadoobee’s third album came out this past Friday. We already received 3 of the songs, like “Take A Bite”, but now we had them all

(“Take A Bite” cut)

So, I missed that one – album is called Beaches

Bet Prince Never Missed National Sex Day / New Music Friday: Jimmie’s Chicken Shack, Leon Bridges, Grace Bowers

morning babble / Friday 08-09-24

DISCLAIMER:

This is the scribble that leads to the babble.

Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.

When all else fails: there’s video!

(“Raspberry Beret” clip)

My little girl requests that Prince song a lot. Too bad its about losing one’s virginity.

(“Raspberry Beret” clip)

I guess any song from Prince is pretty much – sex.

(“Little Red Corvette”)

(Morning Babble Intro)

Happy Weekend! No real reason for all the Prince music except my little girl honestly requesting that the other day in the car. “Raspberry Beret” is cute and she sings along. That won’t happen with the Prince song “Cream” (clip) Did you know that June 9th was National Sex Day – I totally missed that day. Was not a holiday on my Google calendar (“Gett Off” clip) That’s like a week before Father’s Day too (“Gett Off” clip) Whew – do I still have every one? We’ll get to the new music.

(Countdown Video)

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • First up – Jimmie’s Chicken Shack (“Blood” clip) That’s a deeper cut from the boys all the way back from 1997 called “Blood”. The bigger hit that they are know for is the song “High” (“High” clip) Again, 1997. Today, we have a whole new album – sort of. On all the streaming sites, we got our first taste of this album in March . . . of 2023. (“Simple Concept” clip) That’s “Simple Concept” – I enjoyed that one from the start. This album was actually available to purchase digitally back in October of 2022. But today, it’s streaming everywhere, so we do officially have their first full LP since 2008 (Phillies clip) I liked that year. Anyway – back to the music. Jimmie’s Chicken Shack and it’s called 2econds with the #2 replacing the “S” seconds. Huh? (draw it) The song being pushed by Spotify is a chill song called “Make Believe” (“Make Believe” clip)
  • Back in 2015, I heard this song “Coming Home” from Leon Bridges (“Coming Home” clip). So, so reminded me of Sam Cooke – I was hooked. Now, he’s had a couple more albums since that debut with some wonderful music like “Beyond” (“Beyond” clip) This past week, he made the announce that his 4th studio album is coming on October 4th and is creatively titled – Leon. That’s okay, Leon. We’re coming for the music anyway and thankfully, you gave us a taste of this new album with the song “Peaceful Place” (“Peaceful Place” clip)
  • Hodgepodge (show card) I actually played this little cartoon several weeks again when I talked about Grace Bowers and her band – The Hodge Podge (cartoon clip) However, I never did play the very end of the cartoon (cartoon end clip) “What would you know about art anyway” – angry little man about his Hodgepodge. (“Holdin on to Something” music clip) So, I’ve been waiting for this album called – Wine on Venus – I mean, we did get 3 songs along the way, but I wanted to experience it all and today we can. The song being pushed by Spotify is the one that I just played a bit of – “Holdin on to Something” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: If you listen to The Alt-18 Most Requested Countdown on AltNation which is on SiriusXM, then you’ve heard the song by Fontaines DC called “Starburster” – it’s been #1 a lot. But now – they have another release called “Here’s the Thing” – not on the countdown . . . yet // Quavo and Lenny Kravitz have gotten together for a fun updated version to Lenny’s 1998 hit song “Fly” // Emmaline – I’ve seen her a couple times live in Philly has a new song called “Strike” out to listen to . . . and watch (clip) Hmmm, it’s only a picture and not an actual video. Hmmm. // I talked about this one earlier in the week when it snuck out ahead of New Music Friday. Mondo Cozmo has his album – It’s Principle! – coming out the last Friday of this month – the 30th. In the meantime, he did give us the 3rd release off the album – “Killing Floor” (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

Be sure to check out the playlist on Spotify. As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from The Dare, Katy Perry, The Killers and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

This past May, Judah and the Lion came out with a new album called: The Process / An hour of music over 19 songs / So basically, they haven’t been on my radar for more new music.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

Mid June, I was on this one, they teamed up with the band: Joseph to release the song: “Measure of A Man”

(“Measure of A Man”)

Mid July, I missed this one “Body and Soul”

(“Body and Soul”)

And then on Friday, I didn’t talk about this one – it’s the third release from their deluxe edition of The Process, due out on September 5th – song is called “New Tattoo”

(“Vacation” Dirty Heads)

Not my typical set-up, but I’ve still got some new music to get to

(“Vacation” Dirty Heads)

(Morning Babble Intro)

Happy Weekend and as I enjoy myself a Cloudy & Cumbersome – I cheers on to others who might be vacationing as well (“Vacation” Go-Gos) I don’t think I’m going outside again like that. Got cooked on my only beach day this past week. My fault though – I need to apply the sunscreen before going to the beach. (“Black Hole Sun”)

Enough about me. I heard the yawns.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • First up – Jack White (clip) he has his own record company called Third Man Records as well as exclusive benefits for his Vault members, which I am one. Recently, his new album was slipped into the orders of Third Man customers to the stores and then to some Vault members – special mail deliveries were sent out (clip) I was not as fortunate as Ralphie. No decoder ring for Brent. I had to wait like every one else for the digital midnight release of Jack White and his album – No Name. (picture) That looks so cool – I need to get me the vinyl next. Nearly 45 minutes of new music spread out over 13 songs. The one being pushed by Spotify is “That’s How I’m Feeling” (clip) I’ve listened to the entire album like 3, maybe 4 times. I also like the song “What’s the Rumpus” (clip) Sorry – that’s the definititon. I remember growing up and my parents always saying “This isn’t a rumpus room”? (clip)
  • Just last year, Killer Mike released his album – Michael – which won him the GRAMMY for “Best Rap Album” (clip) In a recent press release that I learned about through the Pitchfork website (thank you to Jazz Monroe) Killer Mike said, “I had a year to live with Michael, and I realized I had more I wanted to do with this sound before moving on.” (“Humble Me” clip) That song is called “Humble Me” but there are 9 more songs on this new record titled Songs for Sinners & Saints. BUT – the album is not being attributed to Killer Mike but instead Michael & the Mighty Midnight Revival aka Killer’s Mike’s gospel group (clip)
  • Couple weeks ago, I played the Peck and Beck song “Death Valley High” (clip) That was like the 6th release off of Orville Peck’s upcoming album – Stampede. Today though – we have all 15 songs to enjoy and I will (clip) That Willie Nelson duet will forever make me smile Anyway – the next song being pushed forth off the album is the duet with Debbi Dawson. This one is called “Back at Your Door.” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Sopie Allison, who goes by Soccer Mommy, has announced her new album (4th overall as the Soccer Mommy) called Evergreen which arrives on October 25th. New song off the album is available to hear – it’s called “M”. Yes, the letter “M” // One of my favorites – Father John Misty – is releasing a career-spanning greatest hits album called – Greatish Hits: I Followed My Dreams and My Dreams Said to Crawl. The only new song being found on this album is called “I Guess Time Makes Fools of Us All” but this song will also be appearing on a whole new album later this year. // Caribou has shared a new song, “Volume” which did a makeover to the hit song from 1987 – “Pump Up the Volume” (clip)

As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s a playlist of songs that I’ve talked about and thought about: so, you’ll see some new music there from Porridge Radio, Fuller, and Judah & the Lion and anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

A guy’s worst nightmare to hear today “Happy Friendship Day!”

That’s what it is. Some dude just got tagged in a picture from his girl “friend” – fun.

By the way, that’s Andrew Gold who does that Golden Girls Theme Song. He also does another popular song that some of us will be hearing rather shortly:

(Spooky, Scary Skeletons)

I saw Halloween candy in the stores this past weekend – crazy.

(“Hard Working Man” cut)

From 2022, that’s “Hard Working Man” off the Marcus King album – Young Blood. Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach produced it, so I was all over it. Somehow though, I totally missed the most recent album of Marcus King.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

I actually have two saved albums on Spotify of Marcus King, but when his Mood Swings album came out this past May – not on my radar.

(“Delilah” cut)

Sort of sounds like Cee-Lo / I know – neither one looks like one another

(“Hero” cut)

Nevertheless, if you want some bluesy rock sounding music with rich guitar. Any album from Marcus King is going to get that for you.
