Stale Skittles? / New Music Friday / Shower with Margot Robbie? If I have to.

morning babble / Friday 07-21-23

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes, it gets tidied up; but other times, not so much. When all else fails: watch the video!

Happy Weekend! We made it. Whew. It’s been a week. I’ve been hitting up the kitchen a lot this week, too. Working from home all week and it’s right there. Thankfully, next week beginning Monday night – I start up my monthly 3-Day Fast.

It really is perfect timing for it too. I’ve become the Garbage Can Dad again – eating the remnants of food from my kids’ plates. You’re not going to eat all that chicken? You don’t want all that steak? Unfortunately, when I do dishes though, I help clean up the snack area too. Skittles bag is open? Finished them. I convince myself that I’m cleaning up the counter. Kids ask where the Skittles bag went . . . “well, daughter – the Skittles went stale unfortunately and I had to get rid of them.” (clip – get into my belly)

Stale Skittles. Anyway, I could use that 3-Day Fast to tweak my food urges and get them under control again.

Before I get into new music, one last thing. I did just hear that we lost one of the greatest singers of all time, Mr. Tony Bennett has passed away at the age of 96 – just two weeks short of his birthday. A guy who sang alongside Frank Sinatra as well as Lady Gaga – he will be missed by many generations.

New Music Friday:

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that!

  • First up – you heard of Blur (clip) Via Pitchfork’s Jazz Monroe, I learned that the “Darren” in the album’s title: The Ballad of Darren is “playfully honoring Blur’s security guard and resident everyman Darren “Smoggy” Evans.” I always enjoy learning about those little tidbits about an album. So, new Blur. It’s definitely not the upbeat sounds that some of us are used to (clip). No. So far – what I have heard is definitely a more mellow sounding Blur and I’m all in for it. We’ve already gotten a couple songs off of the album, but the one Spotify appears to be pushing is “Barbaric.” (clip)
  • Apparently, A$AP Rocky is in “album mode”, which is a good thing because it’s been 5 years since his last one. As he builds towards his forthcoming and fourth album called: Don’t Be Dumb; today, he releases his second single as lead artist of 2023. This one is co-produced by some guy named Pharrell Williams. The song is called RIOT (Rowdy Pip’n) – clip.
  • Some songs that I talk about aren’t necessarily my “cup of tea” – this would be one of them. I’m talking about the combo of will.i.am and Britney Spears. I saw it on the new music list and I had to give it a listen (clip) It’s called “Mind Your Business” which the two of them would probably say to me at this point. BUT – I just wanted to bring it to your attention. It’s out there for your listening pleasure. Hope your ear holes enjoy it. (clip)
  • Quick Hits of Songs and Music that I missed: Another new song from Thirty Seconds to Mars called “Get Up Kid” came out last Friday. Full album drop apparently occurs September 15th and that is called: It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day // Dan Auerbach who is half of the Black Keys (clip) released a new single last Thursday called “Every Change I Get (I Want You in the Flesh)” // And finally, The Hives last Tuesday released “Rigor Mortis Radio” (clip)

Frustrates me when I miss stuff. I try to get to it all, but when favorites of mine slip by, I am always baffled.

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork & I know there’s more.

Please subscribe on YouTube and spread the Babble wherever you can – Thank you!

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Everything happens for a reason – is something that we have tell ourselves all the time, because it’s good to have the idea that something good is around the corner.” – by Margot Robbie
