The Misheard Lyric That Became STP’s “Vasoline”

MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Music Cut #1)

By this week back in 1994…

Stone Temple Pilots had climbed all the way to number one…

and apparently…

they were doing it with “Vasoline.”

(Music Cut #2)

As a kid, Scott Weiland heard his parents playing the Eagles…

and thought they were singing: “flies in the Vaseline.”

They weren’t.

It was “Life in the Fast Lane.”

(Music Cut #3 of Eagles “Life in the Fast Lane”)

Years later,

that misheard Eagles lyric

became one of STP’s most known hooks…

with Scott Weiland singing about flies

getting stuck somewhere

they probably should not be.

(Music Cut #4)

LYRIC OF THE DAY:
Flies in the vasoline we are
Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep gettin’ stuck here all the time.” – Stone Temple Pilots
