MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Music Cut #1 — opening of “Drive”)

Released in the U.S. on this day in 1992…

R.E.M. gave us one of the biggest albums of their career…

Automatic for the People.

(Music Cut #2 — “Drive”)

Several songs on the album…

needed string arrangements.

So R.E.M. brought in another musician…

to help put it all together.

This guy came from a very different kind of band.

(Music Cut #3 — Led Zeppelin music cut)

John Paul Jones…

from Led Zeppelin.

He arranged the strings on four songs…

including “Drive”…

and “Everybody Hurts.”

(Music Cut #4 — “Everybody Hurts”)

LYRIC OF THE DAY:

Of this life, well hang on.” – R.E.M. “Everybody Hurts”
