This Movie Weekend Has Godzilla, Seuss, and Giant Stone Heads

Movies That Matter / 11-06-26

(Movies That Matter Intro)

Welcome to Movies That Matter, where we look at three movies worth knowing about before the weekend begins.

This week: Godzilla is back, Bill Hader is putting on the Cat’s hat, and John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell are headed to Easter Island.

What’s new… again? Godzilla is stomping back into theaters with Godzilla Minus Zero.

The story picks up in 1949, two years after Godzilla Minus One, with Japan barely getting back on its feet when – well – Godzilla déjà vu.

And it’s the first Japanese production ever filmed for IMAX.

And now, something a little less destructive, sort of.

(The Cat in the Hat clip – “I’m the Cat in the Hat!”)

Bill Hader voices The Cat in the Hat in his first full-length animated theatrical movie.

This time, the Cat gets assigned to help two kids who just moved to a new town.

Even the Cat has a day job now.

And finally, let’s head to Easter Island.

(Wild Horse Nine clip – “Name a country that I can’t spell”)

John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell star in Wild Horse Nine as two CIA agents on a very unusual assignment.

Steve Buscemi is their boss, Martin McDonagh is directing, and yes… there are giant stone heads involved.

That’s this weekend’s Movies That Matter. From Godzilla-sized destruction to Cat in the Hat chaos to the CIA on Easter Island, there should be something waiting for you at the movies.

Until next time – keep on popping the corn.
