The Story Behind Weezer’s “I’m Your Daddy” (Father’s Day 5K) / Rivers Cuomo Quote of the Day

5K EVERY DAY – Day #166

(“I’m Your Daddy” cut)

That’s “I’m Your Daddy” from Weezer. Lead singer Rivers Cuomo says that he wrote the song after being in the hospital with his sick two-year-old daughter. He wanted to cheer her up and whispered to her, “You’re my baby tonight, and I’m your daddy.”

(More “I’m Your Daddy”)

Buuuuuuuut – the actual song isn’t really “father figurely” (is that even word?), but here we are Happy Father’s Day and I ran.

(Day #166)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“I think I’m a good dad. It’s hard. Ultimately, it’s our kids that have the final word. – by Rivers Cuomo

“Never Apologize For Your Enthusiasm”: My 5K on National Bourbon Day!

5K EVERY DAY – Day #165

(“One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer”)

It’s National Bourbon Day – what could possibly make one to drink on this Saturday?

Smile more everyone.

(“You & Me & the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight (Baby)” Big Bad Voodoo Daddy)

(After taking a sip of whiskey) Don’t worry – I did my run for the day.

(Day #165)

Father’s Day Weekend Music Drop! King Gizzard’s 27th Album, Gary Clark Jr. and Black Pistol Fire Unite!

new music weekend / Friday 06-13-25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Happy Weekend! Happy Father’s Day Weekend! If you got one, be sure to go and hug it.

It is okay to say too – we’re all just gross, little boys that are all grown up now.

Let’s get right to it – New Music Weekend

Who’s coming up! There will be some storytelling with Gary Clark Jr. and Black Pistol Fire, but then we’ll venture towards the always prolific King Gizzard who surprise, surprise has another album, double shot of Kane Brown because it’s just that good, and more.

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • I was first introduced to Gary Clark Jr. when he appeared in the Jon Favreau film – Chef (clip) Great movie if you haven’t seen, but despite the actual movie itself, I think I remember it more because of Gary Clark Jr. I was like – wait, who is that guy? (clip) How much did I like Gary Clark Jr? Easy – I needed to go see him live – at the Fillmore in Philly. BUT – before he came on that night. Two other dudes walked out onto the stage and I thought they were tuning up his equipment and such. But then the guy behind the drum kit took his shirt off and the other one with aqua blue guitar started something (clip) Black Pistol Fire was the opener that night and they won me over. To me, one of the most entertaining and enjoyable bands to see live. So loud, So raw, And only two dudes on the stage. (clip) Today though we have new music from both Gary Clark Jr. AND Black Pistol Fire – together on the same song – “Rock Bottom” (clip)
  • A delightful time for all the Gizzheads out there – the band’s 27th album has fully dropped – Phantom Island (“Phantom Island” clip) Of course I’m talking about the one and only King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard – 10 songs in all – in the past several months though, we’ve been treated to several of the songs already (“Grow Wings and Fly”) Now, I don’t have the Phantom Island vinyl yet, but I am looking foward to it because these King Gizzard albums always have a unique, artistic flare to them. (clip) I know that I’ve showed this before, but this is my first vinyl purchase of theirs – Oddments – an older album from 2014. The artwork is mesmerizing, so many colors and so many things happening (clip) Sketches of Brunswick East is another vinyl album that I have of theirs. Again – so much stuff going on here. I mention this with album covers because the Grammys have announced a new category “Best Album Cover” – I would want King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard to win for their music of course, but an album cover Grammy win would be cool as well! Whew – that was a lot of talky. Song being pushed as their next single is “Aerodynamic” (clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: The upcoming movie Materialists stars Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, but more importantly I think is that heard in the movie is a new song from Japanese Breakfast called “My Baby (Got Nothing At All)” (clip) // New singles from Twenty One Pilots, Chris Brown, Tanner Adell, Gunna, and Petey USA – you can catch them all on my Spotify playlist – link is at brentevans.net // I have openly admitted that I’m not the biggest country music fan, but I appreciate it and there is some that I can’t ignore, like Kane Brown and his latest release (clip) Song is called “2 Pair” and dare I say that it could be a song of the summer nominee? Who knows, but I’ll tell you how good I think it is but playing you another clip of it (clip)

Thank you to Spotify, Rolling Stone, Apple Music, uDiscoverMusic, Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork, Louder, Spill Magazine, Dan Deluca of the Philly Inquirer & I know there’s more.

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Jagged Little Pill Turns 30! Via her Quote, Alanis Morissette’s Timeless Advice

5K EVERY DAY – Day #164

(“Hand in My Pocket” clip)

Sounds like me, but I’m trying to be happy. Happy Friday! AND – happy 30th anniversary to the Jagged Little Pill album from Alanis Morissette

(“You Oughta Know” clip)

All of a sudden I have a mad desire to go to the movies

Anyway – Jagged Little Pill was quite the album for Alanis Morissette – it won her 5 Grammys. Packed with the megahits like “Hand in My Pocket” “You Oughta Know” and “Ironic”, but I do always have my own favorite and that one is track #7 “You Learn”

(“You Learn” clip)

Before the time runs out, I ran

Blink-182’s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket Album Anniversary: Hits, Hidden Gem and My Running Fuel!

5K EVERY DAY – Day #163

(“First Date” clip)

The 4th studio album from one of my favorite bands – Blink-182 is Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.

(“The Rock Show” clip)

On this date, it was released back in 2001. Happy 24 years old to “First Date”, “The Rock Show”, “Stay Together for the Kids” – huge hits for the band. However, I always enjoyed track #9 “Reckless Abandon”

(“Reckless Abandon” clip)

FYI – Blink-182 can always be found on my running playlist when I do this (show “5K Every Day” card)

(Day #163)

From Bueller’s Parade to Dino Chases: A Movie Date to Remember! / Steven Spielberg Quote of the Day

5K EVERY DAY – Day #162

(“Twist and Shout” Beatles)

When that song is heard, a lot of people my age think of Matthew Broderick’s character of Ferris Bueller leading a parade through downtown Chicago. On this date, the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was released in 1986. Two other big movies share today’s date.

(ET’s Flying Theme)

One of Steven Spielberg’s most beloved films, “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” was released today back in 1982. One of my favorites as a little boy. And now you know why my son is named Elliott.

(Jurassic Park Theme)

Spielberg delivered another blockbuster movie on this date back in 1993 – “Jurassic Park”

Which always makes me think of running for my life. I ran.

Stacy’s Mom & Beyond: Unpacking Fountains of Wayne’s Welcome Interstate Managers / Quote of the Day: Chris Collingwood

5K EVERY DAY – Day #161

(“Stacy’s Mom” intro)

Welcome Interstate Managers is the third studio album from Fountains of Wayne.

And yes – it has that Stacy’s Mom song on it

(“Stacy’s Mom” hook)

On this date back in 2003, the album fully dropped and there are 17 tracks in all.

It’s not just “Stacy’s Mom”

(“Hey Julie” clip)

“Hey Julie” “Little Red Light” “Mexican Wine” There are a bunch of songs on this album that I have fully enjoyed over the years. By the way, the girl who played Stacy in the “Stacy’s Mom” video is now older than Stacy’s Mom. That’s fun. FYI – I ran.

Birthday Boy Les Paul with his Guitar That Defined Rock Riffs from Jimmy Page to Marcus King! / Quote of the Day

5K EVERY DAY – Day #160

(“Kashmir” Led Zepplin)

Jimmy Page – I heard this guitar riff described as NOT being just a riff, but an entire sonic landscape.

(more “Kashmir” Led Zepplin)

The guitar used by Led Zepplin’s Jimmy Page – the Gibson Les Paul.

You know who else jammed on this very same guitar? Old timer Neil Young to GnR’s Slash to Tool’s Adam Jones, to modern day Marcus King

(“Hard Working Man” Marcus King)

The Les Paul guitar of Marcus King with a prominent, gritty riff co-written with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Song is called “Hard Working Man” / On a similar note, I was hard working runner today as 5K Every Day continued.

(Day #160)

By the way, if he was still here today, Les Paul would be turning 110.

Betrayal & Bloom: Little Simz’s “Lotus” Album Breakdown on Missed Music Monday

missed music Monday / Monday 06-09-25

DISCLAIMER:

This is the scribble that leads to the babble.

Sometimes, it gets tidied up; other times, not so much.

When all else fails: there’s video!

(“Young”)

This past Friday, Little Simz didn’t just release her 6th studio album. Instead, some are saying she dropped a cultural moment.

(Missed Music Monday opener)

To be honest, this is my first deep dive into the music of Little Simz. The album is Lotus and it’s her first album without long-time producer and collaborator Inflo. Hence, the themes of Betrayal, Vulnerability, and Self-Empowerment

(“Thief”)

The album does emit a self healing process while still being fun and spitting out some entertaining, lyrical rhymes like with the song “Young”

(clip of “Young” – little teapot)

The album title – Lotus – is highly symbolic. The lotus flower is known for its ability to bloom in muddy waters. Be sure to check out the potent voice from the UK – Little Simz.

Playing Happy Music on Upsy Daisy Day / Quote of the Day: Ben Rector

5K EVERY DAY – Day #159

(“Part of Life”)

Ben Rector there – his new album recently dropped called The Richest Man in the World

He’s my happy music that I tap in to at times – song is called “Part of Life”

(more “Part of Life”)

Upsy Daisy Day is celebrated on June 8 every year, encouraging you to allow positivity into your life. Yes, there can be the occasional bumps in the journey of life that may leave us demotivated and stressed. However, if we express gratitude every day and believe that each day is a gift to us, we can carry on with a positive attitude and overcome any challenges. The actions we take and the choices we make when we decide how to react to a particular event are what can make or break us.
