new music friday / Friday 02-28-25

(New Music Friday Intro)

It’s a full weekend of March – already. What’s that phrase? “March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb.” Can that be reversed? In like a lamb, out like a lion. End of the month – Rawr. Who’s coming up for New Music Friday! Benson Boone, Marie Davidson, Lizzo, Yo La Tengo, and Grace VanderWaal

(Countdown Video)

New Music Friday:

  • American Idol drop-out, Benson Boone, it’s okay, he’s doing just fine (“Beautiful Things” clip) For this year’s Grammys, he was up for Best New Artist. By the way, did you see what happened during his performance? (clip) Could I have Heidi Klum and Nikki Glaser help me with my clothes like that? Make a phone call? New song from Mr. Boone (clip) He’s 22 – bet he doesn’t hear Mr. too often. That’s the latest from Benson Boone “Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else” – ouch. With upcoming performances at Coachella and Governors Ball, I would not be surprised to hear some more new music is on the way,
  • (“Sexy Clown”) That’s called “Sexy Clown”. I don’t tap into the Dance music too often, but for some reason, I was oddly drawn here with my fear of clowns (goat) Marie Davidson just released her sixth album called City of Clowns – a city that I must say is NOT on my wish list to visit. (“Fun Times” clip) Now, the music from the City of Clowns album – I’m digging into it. 10 songs in all. The one that jumped out to me is “Fun Times” (clip)
  • Lizzo is back again this year (“Love in Real Life” clip) Besides her Barbie contribution from 2023 (clip), Lizzo hasn’t released any new music since her album Special from 2022 (“About Damn Time”) She has been in the news for some other things, but we’re not going to go there. Instead, let’s enjoy this new song called “Love in Real Life” (clip) Hey Ho. That reminds me of another song (Lumineers) Different sound, but the heying and the hoing is definitely happening in both songs. //
  • Several quick hits of new music: The original soundtrack for the 2006 film Old Joy was done by Yo La Tengo. That compilation soundtrack was called They Shoot, We Score. Today – Yo La Tengo released for the first time on vinyl – Old Joy – a six instrumental track EP. By way, this was all recorded in a single afternoon at Yo La Tengo’s studio in Hoboken. That was a busy afternoon. // End of March, we get Dreams On Toast – the 8th studio album from The Darkness. Today, we received the 4th song off the album – “Walking Through Fire” – be sure to check my Spotify playlist to hear that one! // And finally, once upon a time preteen America’s Got Talent ukelele girl – Grace Vanderwaal. She’s grown up. (clip) She is 21 now, but I still feel creepy. That’s her new song. “Babydoll” (clip)
