Released yesterday back in 1995…

Coolio took one of Stevie Wonder’s songs…

and transformed it into a darker kind of masterpiece.

“Gangsta’s Paradise.”

The song was created for the 1995 movie Dangerous Minds, starring Michelle Pfeiffer

and “Gangsta’s Paradise” was built on Stevie Wonder’s 1976 song “Pastime Paradise.”

But Stevie would not approve the use of his music

unless the track was profanity-free.

Soooooo, Coolio had to go back and do some editing.

And honestly,

with Stevie’s rule,

it just may have helped the song

become a global smash —

because without the naughty words

“Gangsta’s Paradise”

could be played . . . everywhere.
