Sinatra Sunday/ Sammy Hagar book review/ Next up Chris Cornell book via Corbin Reiff/ Tolstoy quote

morning babble / Sunday 08-22-21

Enjoying Sinatra music early today. Grew up with Sid Mark on “Sundays with Sinatra”. Found out – he’s still on! Coming up on 65 years. Click here for more.

My man, Cecil, made me a sign to help inspire my writing each and every day. It’s a Beautiful Day to Write a Book. Go check out his stuff via Instagram.

Books!

  • Red – My Uncensored Life in Rock by Sammy Hagar is one of my favorite books. Probably because I never expected what I did when reading it. Yes – you get the inside stories of all the fun behind the scenes of a concert; the journey Sammy had becoming the Red Rocker; and, of course, the turmoil within Van Halen, while also the incredible connection that produced music magic. You get all that. BUT – it was Sammy’s businesses endeavors that transfixed me. After leaving Van Halen, he went all in with the tequila business and came out with Cabo Wabo. The other members of Van Halen were offered stakes in the company, but they passed. Whoops. The one that totally got me was him designing up a new mountain bike and calling it the Rock Hopper. I had one of those bikes and didn’t even know it was Sammy related. Very inspiring book to keep getting back at it and going for it.
  • Reminds me of one of my upcoming books that I plan on reading this year: Total F*cking Godhead: The Biography of Chris Cornell by Corbin Reiff. Can’t wait!

Reminder: I’m doing the 5K run for the St. Jude Walk/Run in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 25th. Still glittery/ Hot wings with Salsa Valentina/ Not Blue Balls via Happy Nuts/ Paul Reed quote sorta

morning babble / Saturday 08-21-21

Well, we saw the Lego Movie 2 last night – I thought it was funny how the little sister had glitter all over her figures. Now, I’m sorry to dwell on glitter in the house, but I’m ready to leaf blower the basement. I don’t know how to get it out of this coffee table that we have. It’s table that was made from a ship door. That thing has taken a beating over the years. To be taken down by glitter? Ugh.

AMA Saturday:

  • Question #1 – What happened with your Hot Ones tasting of all their hot sauces? Well, it didn’t happen. My brother-in-law blew it. I can say that because I got the Babble show. But seriously, it should have been last Sunday, but our schedules couldn’t match up for the day. This is taken from the show – Hot Ones – where host Sean Evans (not related) interviews celebrities while tasting 10 hot sauces – Will Ferrell / Paul Rudd / Shaq / Recently had Lorde.
  • Question #2 – What happened to your soap video? Yeah, I still want to do that, but the Cold Shower video has moved to the top of the priority list. Mentioning it though – I do need a new bar of soap upstairs, so for now, I choose “Not Blue Balls” by Happy Nuts.

New Music Friday with Anderson East, Kane Brown, & Ed Sheeran/ Punkin Ale via Dogfish Head

morning babble / Friday 08-20-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Happy Friday – whew . . . I couldn’t wait to officially state that day. Enjoyed me another Pumpkin coffee at Dunkin yesterday and then, I hit the liquor store for Punkin Ale by Dogfish Head. It’s been confirmed that the Pumpkin Spice Latte will be back on August 24 – that’s next Tuesday – along with their other deliciously good pumpkin treats. This includes the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. The Pumpkin Scone is one of my favorite. All other scones taste like you’re biting into Styrofoam or something really dry, but not this one.

Found the source of glitter in the house. Throwing that out. My daughter won’t be allowed to have glitter until she’s 13. She’s 5. If she really wants it so bad, she’ll probably be able to gather it up in the house between now and then.

Countdown to 15,000 words – Confessions of a Workaholic. I’m at 5,048

I ran – #232 of the 5K runs for the year. And yes – in a row!

New Music Friday:

  • Anderson East’s highly anticipated new album, Maybe We Never Die, is out today – all 12 songs of it. My wife and I are going to go see him in January in Philly. And if I can’t make it – my wife is going to go see him in January in Philly.
  • Ed Sheeran has announced his fifth studio album, = (pronounced equals), to be released on October 29th. We already got “Bad Habits” released from it, but today we got “Visiting Hours” which is song about wishing there were visiting hours in heaven. That’s all I’m saying because I’ll get emotional.
  • Today, we get Lorde’s 3rd album – Solar Power. It’s totally and absolutely chill. Apparently, she purposely took a step back and chilled. Recent song “Mood Ring” is the 3rd release of the album and there’s a video that she went all blonde for – click here.
  • Kane Brown got tagged on Instagram and it led to his new single, “One Mississippi”. This guy Levon Gray tagged him in a story and Kane watched it. He then went so far to invite the guy to Nashville to write – this is what you got “One Mississippi” – good country jam.
  • Ludicris is featured on a new song out there with StarBoi3. The song is titled, “Dick”
  • Another Brent Music Favorite: Matt Kearney came out with the song “Odds” today and I really enjoyed the sound of that one. Initially, I thought it was off his new album release back in May (January Flower), but it’s not on there. Showing the same album cover, but it’s not one of the 13 songs.

morning babble / Thursday 08-19-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

I’ve got BJJ this afternoon. You know what that means – I cut my fingernail and toenails – don’t be that guy.

I actually hit Dunkin yesterday – the day was way off. BUT – I got the pumpkin swirl. XL Coffee with cream and pumpkin swirl.

My other simple little joy of the day was Maile. Ordered me a Mexicano Sausage sandwich. The guy was like – we close at 6pm. I said I am so sorry but I will be there in two minutes. He said – it’ll be ready. I busted it there. Gave cash a nice little tip and exclaimed a big thank you to the guy behind the counter. I explained that my day was crap and this was my highlight.

#231 of the 5K runs / I also wrote last night for the Countdown to 15,000 words – trying to get that book going!

5 Second Rule with Mel Robbins on the Chase Jarvis podcast. Ted Talk on it and a book. #301 of podcasts for Chase. Snooze bar – nope – 5-4-3-2-1. Helps you move from the crocodile brain to the frontal – force action.

Glitter is back!

Yesterday was supposed to be my easy day. Ever have one of those. And then you look at the rest of the week and you’re like – where’s Friday.

My day got thrown – got home late – missed dinner with the family – no time to write.

More Pumpkin Updates – Wawa & Dunkin / At home working? Move it around! / Frederick Douglass quote

morning babble / Tuesday 08-17-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Welcome to Tuesday – no politics here. Whew! But – I do have pumpkin updates – I’m sorry “rollergirl.” Wawa now has Pumpkin Spice Coffee. Got that via my friend Dave on Instagram who I guess is going to Arizona for radio? Thursday – Dunkin? BUT – I’ve heard some places have it already and are serving it, but it’s not officially “out” yet. Pumpkin Spice Latte or “PSL” from Starbucks next Tuesday (8/24). I’m not trying to speed up the end of summer. I’m just looking forward to a taste that I haven’t had for many, many months now.

I ran! #229 of the 5K every day

I also wrote last night – really felt good about that chunk for the Countdown to 15,000.

Working yesterday from home – I’ve had to move around lately. I’ve got the desk here, but it’s really turning into more of a creative space and the business work brings down the area. So, instead, I’ve been upstairs at our dinner table. I don’t bring my charger in order to force me to take a break. I enjoy the sunlight that comes in and I think that’s key. However, today after lunch, for some reason I moved to this high top table that we have set up in front of our front windows to the house. And – I was standing. I got so much work done and I was truly fired up throughout the afternoon just knocking “shtuff” out. Just something to think about. If you are out of the office and working from home, move it around. Get up and place the workload elsewhere.

morning babble / Monday 08-16-21

This is the scribble that leads to the babble. Sometimes it gets tidied up, but sometimes . . . not so much. When all else fails – go watch the video!

Happy Monday – well, at least try. I woke up today and forgot how much the hills on the trails put extra work on my body. I haven’t been out there for a couple weeks. Anyway, I ran yesterday midday outside for #227 and just wrapped up on the treadmill for #228.

Countdown to 15,000 – well, I’m at 3,051 / Didn’t have as good of a Sunday as I did Saturday with the pen . . . or computer. Confessions of a Workaholic

Pumpkin sighting – Dunkin Donuts will have their Fall line-up this Thursday, August 19th. I know that’s way early, but I’ve already seen the candy corn and other Halloween candy in stores, so . . . I’m okay with that. As for Starbucks and their return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, all signs point to Tuesday, August 24th.

Reminder: I’m doing the 5K run for the St. Jude Walk/Run in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 25th. Books on a Sunday: Eat a Peach by David Chang and comics from Captain Blue Hen Comics/ Batman quote

morning babble / Sunday 08-15-21

I haven’t run yet. I slept in. It felt good. #227 will occur out there though. 5K every day. Also, just a reminder that I’ll be doing the 5K run for the St. Jude Walk/Run in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 25th. On the team – XTU to the Maxx – that’s with Charlie Maxx who you can hear middays on 92.5 XTU. Go get your country on – they had a huge concert last night, so things are probably a little quiet today for country fans in Philly.

Countdown to 15,000 words – I’m not jinxing myself, but I did write last night. Not enough, but something happened. Again, this is to help push me get a chunk of the book that I want to write – done. FYI – it’s tentatively titled: Confessions of a Workaholic

Books!

  • The Code Breaker by Walter Isaacson (listening to this one) I feel bad, but the Intro is read by Walter who had a whistling “S” for a couple minutes. I thought – this isn’t going to be good. They must have made an adjustment because it was gone by the end of the intro and I do like the author’s voice. I’ve heard him on numerous podcast and never heard that “S” before. From there, it’s a female narrator, who I am enjoying hear.
  • Still slowly reading Eat A Peach – A Memoir by David Chang. Like – I’m savoring every page. A couple are read and I’m finding myself marking it up everywhere. It’s good. Here’s a quote from page 52 – “The paradox for the workaholic is that rock bottom is the top of whatever profession they’re in.”
  • And finally comics. Today, I’m hoping to sit back and read issue #3 of Marjorie Finnegan from Garth Ennis. Who also does Batman Reptilian and The Boys. The other day I was in Captain Blue Hen Comics to pick up an issue of My Little Pony Friendship – yeah, I was standing there with my son who obviously felt nervous about them thinking that it was for him. So, he kept mentioning his sister and how happy she will be to pick it up. I had misread an email though and the issue is coming. Not here yet though. Captain Blue Hen Comics thinks I’m pumped for some My Little Pony comics now.

Joining Charlie Maxx and her XTU team for the St. Jude Walk/Run next month in Philly! / Mark Hoppus quote

morning babble / Saturday 08-14-21

Got some records yesterday! Midday drop-off of the little girl for a playdate and on our way back home, the boy and I hit two of Newark’s record stores – Rainbow Records and Long Play Cafe. I got the INXS Kick album. Love this album. 1987. I’m old. Got that Michael Hutchence – sexy tough, I call him. Anyway, I got a couple others, because the gift cards allowed it. BUT – I also got one in particular that I never would have gotten if it wasn’t for my son. Daft Punk – Random Access Memories. Award winning album from 2013. It has the “Got Lucky” song with Pharrell Williams. But – my son at no other time has asked for a record and he rattled off some knowledge of the duo . . . so, I bought it. Books and Music – I’m all in for the kids. He’s already sat in our house library listening to the record like I do.

I ran – #226 of 5K runs!

I didn’t write much. Countdown to 15,000 is looking rough right now. My tally increased only to 2,511 words. Not quite halfway through the month and I do have today and tomorrow to do some wordage . . . maybe not that one. See – this is holding me accountable! I’m pushing.

Two upcoming races that I’ll be doing this year:

I’ll start with the one that’s farther off: I’ll be doing the Turkey Trot in Newark, DE on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Not sure yet about a charity tie-in there. I’m working on something behind the scenes with that. BUT – all in for that one. I did the 10K there back in 2019. Looking forward to being back at it again this year. Waiting for registration details

The other race I’m doing is next month and I’m all signed up. I’ll be doing the 5K run for the St. Jude Walk/Run in Philadelphia on Saturday, September 25th. I’m excited to join Charlie Maxx’s team of 92.5 WXTU. Her team is officially called – XTU to the Maxx. I used to work with Charlie back in the day and I’m excited to catch up with her again. We’re also trying to rally up some troops that we used to hang with back in the day. And yes – there’s a donation page for my run: click here – anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated for this great cause . . . and you can help me get a free t-shirt. Their phrase – “St. Jude won’t stop until no child dies from cancer” – I’m all in.

New Music Friday with Lizzo, Ludacris, & Arkells / Run the Jewels enjoyed / Killer Mike quote

morning babble / Friday 08-13-21

Happy Friday!

3 Day Fast wrapped up last night shortly past the 6:21pm time needed to hit the 72 hour mark. Red wine – boxed red wine. I’m classy. Also had our pasta, sauce, and sausage meal – fresh bread. I got filled up and full. Still had some peanut butter fudge brownies for a dessert. I was so hungry though at the end of this fast – it didn’t help that I got home from work early and set up shop at the dinner table to do some paperwork. Food was right there. Chocolate Chip Muffins were less than 10 feet away. New Skippy Peanut Butter jars had just been bought and were still sitting on the counter. I told my wife that I could probably heat up a jar of that Skippy and drink it. So, I was hungry, but made it through my 3 day fast – 8th one of the year.

As for the PB and CC Muffin – I got it for breakfast.

I mentioned yesterday that I would have the Jeep and that I would probably listen to the full albums of Run the Jewels. I did listened to 3 & 4. Bits of 2. I actually love the Zach de la Rocha song “Close Your Eyes”. Also, a fun, but very naughty song is “Love Again.” Listen to it with nobody around unless they have your same twisted sexual humor.

I ran – #225 of the 5K runs

Countdown to 15,000 words – ugh – I forgot to count them up. I’ll have that ready tomorrow. Gives me time today to make it look better.

New Music Friday:

  • New Run the Jewels – sort of. It’s a remix of JU$T which features Pharrell Williams and Zack de la Rocha. This redo sounded like they took the horns from Phil Collins’ Sussudio, but it’s nice. I still think that the actual song directly off the RTJ 4 Album is great. Listen to those lyrics – powerful.
  • Ludacris and his wife announced their new addition to the family, baby girl – Chance Oyali. That’s Luda’s 4th daughter. My brother had to put up with that. Tolerated? Enjoyed. Anyway – new Ludacris song dropped last night “butter.atl”. No news on a full album drop yet though.
  • Robert Plant and Alison Krauss announced their joint album Raise the Roof with the release of the cover: ‘Can’t Let Go’. Back in 2007, they did another beautiful album together called Rising Sand. This new album is set for release on Nov. 19, and the duo plans to tour in 2022
  • New Lizzo song AND it’s with Cardi B – called “Rumors” – they’re busting on all the haters. Colorful song. Even more colorful video – I got a link. Lizzo confirms in the song that she hasn’t hooked up with Drake yet . . . not yet. No news on a full album drop here either.
  • Some Brent music: They Might Be Giants have dropped “I Can’t Remember the Dream,” off their upcoming album Book, which is due to be released on October 29th. I liked this song – it toed the line of “Birdhouse in your Soul” and “The Statue Got Me Hight” – two of the more popular songs from They Might Be Giants. I can’t wait for 10/29. AND another one that I like: Canada’s Arkells have just announced their sixth studio album Blink Once will be released on September 30th. Today, you can hear their song, “Swing Swing Swing”. These guys are sneaky good and I feel bad that I forget about them at times. But then, a song like this comes out and I go back listening to all their other albums and hit songs and kick myself for forgetting.
  • And finally, no album yet from Kanye West. We still wait.
