On this date back in 1984, Prince starred in the film, Purple Rain
(“Purple Rain” cut)
It’s amazing how much of that Purple Rain album still resonates today in the music world
(“Let’s Go Crazy” cut)
Whether it was a song, a film, or a performance, Prince poured so much passion and dedication into everything he did. I don’t have any music for you, but I did run.

With New Music Weekend – Who’s coming up! Two Tylers: Mr. Childers and Mr. the Creator, also let’s talk about Madonna, Tame Impala, sombr, and more
(Countdown Video)
New Music Weekend:
For this first album, I have to admit, I had never really dug into this artist before: Tyler Childers (chill-ders) (“Whitehorse Road” clip) But when I did, it was the Purgatory album that I wanted to keep going back and listening to. (“I Swear (to God” clip) And now – we have a new album that was released: Snipe Hunter (“Nose on the Grindstone” clip) With this album’s set of songs, they appear to be leaning more into a stripped-back, raw, and acoustic sound. (“Watch Out” clip) I do like that “Watch Out” song – it’s got a Zeppelin-ish intro plus the song has a heavier, more distorted feel to it. Now, the song being pushed by Spotify is “Eatin’ Big Time” (song clip) That’s the album opener and I’ve read a review describing it as “a thick cut of greasy boogie-blues.” So far – big thumbs up for the Snipe Hunter album which is 13 tracks of pure Tyler Childers, who very much appears to be one of the most compelling voices in modern music (“Down Under”).
This past Monday, Tyler the Creator dropped his 9th studio album called: Don’t Tap The Glass. I’m a little disappointed in him – not because of the album, but the day of the drop – a Monday. He’s the one that said he wanted to bring back new music releases on Tuesdays, which is a throwback that I applaud as well. (“Ring Ring Ring”) That’s the song that I locked in on “Ring Ring Ring” The album is quick one – only 28 minutes long for 10 songs. Half of them are under 3 minutes, but it’s a fun album – like an energetic dancefloor experience. (“Sugar on My Tongue”). Rule #1 that he instructs for this album can be found in the beginning of track 1: (clip of “Body Movement. No sitting still.” clip from “Big Poe” song). I did sorta find myself bopping along when I did the dishes the other night. By the way, I love the cover of that album, which you saw on each song clip. That would be a fun Halloween costume. //
Several quick hits of new music: When I think of Madonna – I still have old school songs in my head (“Material Girl”) Anyway – new album from the Queen of Pop appears to be a return to her electronic era like Ray of Light. New album is called: Veronica Electronica // Tame Impala released their first solo music in 5 years with the song “End of Summer” – it almost counts as an album since it’s over 7 minutes long. Otherwise, actual albums of every flavor are out this weekend with GWAR, Alice Cooper, FITZ and The Tantrums, Folk Bitch Trio – that last one was fun to say. // This little guy – sombr – has another song out. I say little guy jokingly because he’s only 19. In person, I would clearly look up to him. He’s 6′ 5″. I might even call him sir. (clip of “undressed” song) My son and I have enjoyed the past songs released from him, so this new one is exciting to add to the mix. I’m still hoping for a whole album though – sombr. In the meantime, here’s the new one called “12 to 12” (song clip)
I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Weekend. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Yesterday was day 3 of my 3-Day Fast. I’m not going to lie yesterday’s 5K run was tough. Initially, I had a podcast show playing in my ear, but it ended and I had like less than half a mile to go. I found it amusing that I went to “CPR” by Wet Leg
(“CPR” hook by Wet Leg)
“CPR” pulled me through to the end of my 5k run. In my ears today – all new music that was just released. Be on the lookout for the “New Music Weekend” video
(Day #206)
By the way, I broke my fast not in the most healthy of ways, but it was delicious. We had chicken from Popeye’s. Their rice and beans side – that was my first bite. So good!

Day 2 of a 3 Day Fast is not fun and, in my opinion the hardest day of this fast.
(Actual “Welcome to the Jungle” clip from Guns N’ Roses)
Slash from Guns N’ Roses – it’s his birthday today. Unfortunately, I will not be sharing cake with him. If he wants to go on a run, well . . . I actually did that already
(Day #204)
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “You can’t wait around for destiny to give you what you think you deserve, you have to earn it, even if you think you’ve paid your dues.” – by Slash
Again – it’s his birthday. Happy 60th Slash!

Welcome to National Junk Food Day – I can still partake for the day, but tonight, I officially begin a 3-Day Fast
(clip of “Control” by Janet Jackson)
Like that? I need some self control for eating. I’ll be talking more about the fast over the next 3 days. In the meantime, I did do my 5K Run.
(Day #202)
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “You’ll have bad times, but that’ll always wake you up to the good stuff you weren’t paying attention to.” – by Robin Williams (from the Good Will Hunting script)
Today is Robin Williams birthday – he would have been 74.

Happy Weekend! Already half-way through July. Next week – days away from training camps beginning for football. First preseason football game is the following week. Pumpkin Spice being added to everything arrives in less than a month. Sorry – not trying to rush through the summer. It’s just shocking how soon Christmas is going to be here. (“Christmas in Hollis” clip from Run DMC)
Let’s do this – New Music Weekend – Who’s coming up! Bush, Lord Huron, Alex G, Nine Inch Nails and more!
(Countdown Video)
New Music Weekend:
For the all the rockers, the Gavin Rossdale-fronted band, Bush is back (“Breathe in, Breathe out” clip from “Machinehead” song) That’s classic Bush from 1994. But today, we do have their new album, I Beat Loneliness. (“I Beat Loneliness” clip) And there’s the album’s title track, which is a clear indicator of the deeply personal record that this album is. (“60 Ways To Forget People” clip) The classic alt-rock sound is still there as it tackles themes of mental health, solitude, and resilience. 12 tracks in all and I’ve listened to them all, but it’s the opening track that I got stuck on – “Scars” (“Scars” clip)
Next up, a band with a truly dedicated fanbase and a very distinct sound: Lord Huron! (“Meet Me in the Woods” clip) // For the fans of atmospheric indie folk, Lord Huron has released their fifth album called The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1. (“Looking Back”) It’s a dreamy, philosophical journey that builds on the band’s signature sound. Also, the album features some intriguing collaborations, including a fascinating spoken-word performance from actress Kristen Stewart on the track ‘Who Laughs Last. (“Who Laughs Last” clip) Again – album is called The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1. which obviously hints towards an upcoming release of Vol. 2 – but maybe not by next Friday though. Out of all the tracks, the song I’ve enjoyed most has been one of the singles that was released earlier which also has a really good video to go along with it: “Nothing I Need”. (“Nothing I Need”)
Philadelphia’s own (cough, cough – it’s actually Havertown) Alex G just dropped one of the most anticipated indie albums of the year. Headlights – which is his 10th record. (“Afterlife” clip) Being his first album with a major label, there was definitely some fear among fans of a sound change. Thankfully, the familiar quirks remain – we still get the intricate melodies along with his signature “weird voices” (“Beam Me Up”) “Beam Me Up” is being hailed as a classic Alex G type song — Elliott Smith guitars, oddball vocal affects, and a beautiful chorus. (more “Beam Me Up”) I’ve enjoyed all 12 tracks, but I’m leaning towards one that’s a bit louder, with some distorted guitars and vocals – showcasing a slightly edgier side. This is “Louisiana” (“Louisiana” clip)
Several quick hits of new music: From the always captivating Jade Bird, we have her new album out titled Who Wants to Talk About Love? This British singer-songwriter is known for her distinctive voice and lyrical depth, blending folk, Americana, and indie-rock all packaged up together. // Next up, the rising pop sensation Jessie Murph has unleashed her highly anticipated new album titled: Sex Hysteria. Known for her raw, unfiltered vocals and brutally honest lyrics, Jessie Murph delivers that naughtiness we all secretly enjoy. // Nine Inch Nails has just given us their first new music in five years with a brand new track called “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” (clip) This is the first taste of their upcoming soundtrack for the new film, TRON: Ares. While Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have been known for their film scores, this marks the first time a movie soundtrack is officially credited to Nine Inch Nails (more “As Alive As You Need Me To Be”)
