The Inside Joke Behind Singles’ Fake Band

MUSIC THAT MATTERS – “Lyric of the Day”

(Music Cut #1 – Pearl Jam “Breath”)

Released on this day in 1992…

Hollywood made a romantic comedy…

and accidentally captured

one of the biggest musical moments of the ’90s.

Singles.

(Music Cut #2 – Pearl Jam “Breath”)

Matt Dillon played the lead singer for the fictional band Citizen Dick.

And his bandmates?

Eddie Vedder, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament…

of Pearl Jam.

But even their SONG was an inside joke.

(Music Cut #3 – “Touch Me I’m Dick”)

Citizen Dick’s “Touch Me I’m Dick”…

was a parody of Mudhoney’s…

“Touch Me I’m Sick.”

So basically…

Singles gave us Matt Dillon…

fronting Pearl Jam…

doing Mudhoney.

(Music Cut #4 – “Touch Me I’m Sick”)

LYRIC OF THE DAY:
I won’t live long
And I’m full of rot
I’m gonna give you, girl
Everything I got.” – Mudhoney “Touch Me I’m Sick”
