To my parents – it’s Wedding Anniversary #51. Last year, I sadly learned it was #50 when I texted them “Happy Anniversary” that evening. My mom responded about them eating dinner outside somewhere and . . . oh yeah . . . big 50.

This Sunday – it’s the 12th Annual Blue Hen 5K – which is a part of the University of Delaware’s Alumni Weekend / Again, this Sunday, June 5th – race begins at 9:30am

Today’s highlight – I’m going to get me some of that Peanut Butter Fudge Coffee at Wawa. Non-Fat French Vanilla creamer in the bottom. Delish. Employees went nuts and applauding me when I picked it. They were all like – “It’s the greatest ever.” One girl said that if I liked it with the Vanilla creamer, I should try it with Hot Chocolate in the bottom and then add the coffee – it’s like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Coffee.

LoCarb & Meaty May Recap

* I’m sorry I got away from the daily postings of what I ate. The school shooting occurred last Tuesday and I just didn’t feel it was important to get something like that up. Instead, I couldn’t wait for my family to come home that day from school.

* The food – I enjoyed some of the changes: purchased some bone broth, pork rinds, but then to mix it up some I had snack packs of olives – both green and black.

* Overall feeling was good – not sure if that had more to do with the workouts that I was doing or not, but I certainly felt more positive about myself. I mean, for March, I gained nearly 10 lbs and felt the “puffy.”

* I was eating so much in March and just never felt “full” at times. My days in May – I would be amazed at some of the days how little I had eaten but didn’t even think of food.

* Weight +/- for the month is -14.1 lbs when compared to 5/1 weigh-in

* Now, I think one of the biggest differences between March and May is that I want to continue with this eating style. Maybe venture towards more meat.

Yesterday – I made a memory. That’s what life is all about – Making Memories – and I believe I succeeded yesterday. I was mystery reader for my daughter’s class. The look on her face and then the embracing hug immediately afterwards – I know that I’ll forever have.

LoCARB & MEATY MAY still happening and still feeling really good. My +/- with poundage for the month is now at -13.8 lbs since May 1st. On Sunday, I’ll do the Bring Sally Up Push-up Challenge on Sunday – update that on Monday. I’m at 18 up.

New Music Friday:

  • I got really excited this morning. Spotify creates a “Release Radar” that pulls new music which is related to what you are listening to. They always have a picture to go with that playlist. I saw Run the Jewels and was psyched. But – it’s not really all that new – it’s a remix from Phil Spectro (I know who Phil Spector is – not that guy) – again Phil Spectro. He redid the Run the Jewels song – “Nobody Speak.” It’s fine. I mean, it’s good. I do like the original – it’s one that I have run to a lot, so that one is embedded into my head.
  • M.I.A. came out of hiding? Sorry. But – she is back with a new single called “One.” In an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe of the new track. “I’d got to a place that was really happy. I did want to make that nice, happy record.” So, maybe some happy music from M.I.A. – as to when we get the whole album – not sure, but it is called MATA.
  • So, last night at midnight – Blackbear along with Machine Gun Kelly released a new video for their song – “gfy”. Some people will think that stands for “good for you” – it doesn’t. Catchy song that you don’t want your 6-year-old to be singing along to – so, you’ve been warned. Funny video and naughty – click here for that.
  • JD McPherson (Sock Hop? or Rock Hop?) has digitally released a cover song for each month this year. Today he adds to that list with a cover of Irma Thomas’ “It’s Raining.” He’s got 5 songs in all and digitally he calls them The Warm Covers EP, Vol 2 but a physical edition of The Warm Covers including additional bonus tracks is planned for release sometime in 2023. This summer, J.D. is touring with Robert Plant & Alison Krauss – and that would be an awesome show to see.
  • By the way – I’m still listening to Harry’s House from Harry Styles came out last week – that’s a good album. Also, still enjoying Kendrick Lamar‘s latest which came out 2 weeks ago. Not sure what from this week is going to stick like those, but we shall see.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVE!

Missed yesterday – Towel Day is an annual celebration on the 25th of May, as a tribute to the late author Douglas Adams (1952-2001). On that day, fans around the universe carry a towel in his honor. Adams wrote the classic sci-fi novel, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The 25th was organized in memory of him after he suffered a sudden heart attack at the age of 49. His fans wanted to find a way to commemorate his life’s work, and after having one towel day, its success made it a yearly event. Within Chapter 3 of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, it’s all explained.

Also, yesterday – it would have been my grandfather’s 107th Birthday. My kids nor wife – they never met my Pop . . . or as they got to know him – Super Pop. They were gifted the opportunity to see my Nana, who was then deemed Super Nana, because my Mom become their Nana. All the pictures that my Nana – Super Nana – had around the house with her man became . . . Super Pop.

Yesterday, I didn’t feel like making a full pot of coffee and I didn’t want to hit the local Dunkin because the woman there would make me an XL Coffee with cream and sugar before I could explain – just black. Thank you Friday for arriving.

LoCARB & MEATY MAY still going for myself. Feeling really, really good. My +/- with poundage for the month is now at -12.2 lbs since May 1st. Again, weight loss isn’t really the goal, but so far it’s been a whole lot of fun to track this month. I’ll do that Bring Sally Up Push-up Challenge on Sunday – update that on Monday. I’ve got to do better than 13 / 14. A couple months ago, I hit 16 but that’s not on tape. We’ll see what happens Sunday.

Oh – someone caught me posting that I was listening to Sam Cook on vinyl and they asked – “Really?” Yes – really. I have Sam Cooke – Portrait of a Legend

New Music Friday:

  • It’s finally here – Harry’s House by the one and only Mr. Harry Styles. Reading through all these reviews, I saw one from The Telegraph that I really liked – it described this album as “a delicious Eighties party record from a big romantic.” This is Harry’s third LP and you get just over 40 minutes of music spread out over 13 tunes. He was on the Today Show yesterday – rocking it out in a unitard? a onesie? Video Clip – I could so never, ever do that. Some songs that I liked “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” and “Grapejuice”.
  • Okay – there’s this new song out from the creative mind of Mark Ronson. He’s got Blur’s main man, Damon Albarn doing some singing – video clip. Then, he also has Hip-Hopper Wale (wa – lay) doing the rapping – video clip. It’s called “Bird Calling.” I can’t figure out if I really like it or not.
  • “Big Poppa,” “Juicy” and “One More Chance” – all of them huge hits from the one and only Notorious B.I.G. If he was still here today – he would be turning 50 tomorrow (5/21). As we all know, his life was cut tragically short back in 1997 at age 24. But – last night at midnight, we got a new song from Biggie. It’s called “G.O.A.T.” and it’s pretty damn good. Well done by the people looking over his estate to have this created.
  • This past Wednesday . . . 5 years ago . . . we lost the great Chris Cornell. Doesn’t seem right still – at all.

Enjoy World Whiskey Day tomorrow (5/21) – I got my Elijah Craig for that moment!
