Surprise NIN! Lord Huron Gets Cosmic. Bush Goes Personal. | New Music

New Music Weekend / 7/18 to 7/20/25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Happy Weekend! Already half-way through July. Next week – days away from training camps beginning for football. First preseason football game is the following week. Pumpkin Spice being added to everything arrives in less than a month. Sorry – not trying to rush through the summer. It’s just shocking how soon Christmas is going to be here. (“Christmas in Hollis” clip from Run DMC)

Let’s do this – New Music Weekend – Who’s coming up! Bush, Lord Huron, Alex G, Nine Inch Nails and more!

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • For the all the rockers, the Gavin Rossdale-fronted band, Bush is back (“Breathe in, Breathe out” clip from “Machinehead” song) That’s classic Bush from 1994. But today, we do have their new album, I Beat Loneliness. (“I Beat Loneliness” clip) And there’s the album’s title track, which is a clear indicator of the deeply personal record that this album is. (“60 Ways To Forget People” clip) The classic alt-rock sound is still there as it tackles themes of mental health, solitude, and resilience. 12 tracks in all and I’ve listened to them all, but it’s the opening track that I got stuck on – “Scars” (“Scars” clip)
  • Next up, a band with a truly dedicated fanbase and a very distinct sound: Lord Huron! (“Meet Me in the Woods” clip) // For the fans of atmospheric indie folk, Lord Huron has released their fifth album called The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1. (“Looking Back”) It’s a dreamy, philosophical journey that builds on the band’s signature sound. Also, the album features some intriguing collaborations, including a fascinating spoken-word performance from actress Kristen Stewart on the track ‘Who Laughs Last. (“Who Laughs Last” clip) Again – album is called The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1. which obviously hints towards an upcoming release of Vol. 2 – but maybe not by next Friday though. Out of all the tracks, the song I’ve enjoyed most has been one of the singles that was released earlier which also has a really good video to go along with it: “Nothing I Need”. (“Nothing I Need”)
  • Philadelphia’s own (cough, cough – it’s actually Havertown) Alex G just dropped one of the most anticipated indie albums of the year. Headlights – which is his 10th record. (“Afterlife” clip) Being his first album with a major label, there was definitely some fear among fans of a sound change. Thankfully, the familiar quirks remain – we still get the intricate melodies along with his signature “weird voices” (“Beam Me Up”) “Beam Me Up” is being hailed as a classic Alex G type song — Elliott Smith guitars, oddball vocal affects, and a beautiful chorus. (more “Beam Me Up”) I’ve enjoyed all 12 tracks, but I’m leaning towards one that’s a bit louder, with some distorted guitars and vocals – showcasing a slightly edgier side. This is “Louisiana” (“Louisiana” clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: From the always captivating Jade Bird, we have her new album out titled Who Wants to Talk About Love? This British singer-songwriter is known for her distinctive voice and lyrical depth, blending folk, Americana, and indie-rock all packaged up together. // Next up, the rising pop sensation Jessie Murph has unleashed her highly anticipated new album titled: Sex Hysteria. Known for her raw, unfiltered vocals and brutally honest lyrics, Jessie Murph delivers that naughtiness we all secretly enjoy. // Nine Inch Nails has just given us their first new music in five years with a brand new track called “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” (clip) This is the first taste of their upcoming soundtrack for the new film, TRON: Ares. While Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have been known for their film scores, this marks the first time a movie soundtrack is officially credited to Nine Inch Nails (more “As Alive As You Need Me To Be”)

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Lemonade Day 🍋: When Life Gives You Lemons . . . We Make Lemonade and Run! (5K Day 200)

5K EVERY DAY – Day #200

(“Lemon” clip from SMITH song)

Today is Lemonade Day Wilmington – and for this day, we recently purchased a whole bunch of lemons. Like over 100 or way more.

(more “Lemon” clip from SMITH song)

This is time sensitive for Saturday. From 9am to 3pm, my little girl will be set up at The Edge Fitness Club in Pike Creek, Delaware. A portion of her proceeds benefits the Humane Animal Partners of Delaware.

(“Who Let The Dogs Out” clip from Baha Men song)

She likes dogs and lemonade. Again, this is at The Edge in Pikecreek. I guarantee someone is there who witnessed one of my runs this year.

Lollapalooza’s Birthday! 🤘 My 5K Run (Day 199) & Trent Reznor’s “Extraordinary” Wisdom

5K EVERY DAY – Day #199

(“Do You Like American Music” clip from Violent Femmes song “American Music)

On this date, back in 1991, the very first Lollapalooza music festival was held.

(“Kiss Them For Me” clip from Siouxsie and the Banshees)

So many great bands and artists played that year: Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Violent Femmes, Nine Inch Nails

(“Head Like A Hole” clip from Nine Inch Nails)

That’s a good running song. Nine Inch Nails have a new song out – be on the lookout for the New Music Weekend video. And speaking of running – I did do that today.

“Attention Attention”: My 5K Run & Why You ALWAYS Double Check the AI!

5K EVERY DAY – Day #198

(Opening clip of “Attention Attention” song)

Shinedown sings that song – “Attention Attention” / By the way, their lead singer has a wonderful first name – it’s Brent (which is my first name)

(more “Attention Attention”)

I have run to that song so much that I’m surprised that I’m still sitting here

(Day #198)

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Never give up on something you love, no matter how hard it gets.” – by Zach Myers

Originally, I was going to say Happy Birthday him, but thankfully I double check work. His birthday is November 7th, not today.

Wet Leg’s “Mangetout”: My Naughty New Favorite! 😉 (5K Run Day 197)

5K EVERY DAY – Day #197

(“CPR” opening clip from Wet Leg)

This past weekend’s video for New Music Weekend – I highlighted the band – Wet Leg and their new album: Moisturizer. I haven’t stopped playing it.

(“CPR” hook clip from Wet Leg)

I’ve just been flipping the album over and over.

But – with all of this listening, I do have a new favorite

(“Mangetout” clip)

That’s (maanj-too). Can’t play too much of it – it’s a little naughty.

I’ve also been doing my 5K Every Day to this album

“Mystical Magical” Leads to Moonbeam Ice Cream Desires 🎧 + Benson Boone Flipping While I’m 5K Running 196

5K EVERY DAY – Day #196

(intro “Mystical Magical”)

Each and every time I hear that song – I smile AND try to sing along to it

(more “Mystical Magical”)

That’s when you know it’s a good song – I can’t sing, but I still try to hit those Benson Boone notes. Also, that song made me want to find Moonbeam Ice Cream.

(clip of “Moonbeam Ice Cream, Taking off Your Blue Jeans” from the song)

Are you taking off the blue jeans because of eating too much?

FYI – no such thing as “Moonbeam Ice Cream” Yet.

AND, as Benson Boone was backflipping off the stage somewhere, I was running.

(Day #196)

I am so leaning more and more for “Mystical Magical” being the Song of the Summer, too.

Mac & Cheese AND Nude Day?! 🧀 😂 Let’s talk 5K and The Dead Weather instead (Day 195)

5K EVERY DAY – Day #195

(“Hang You from the Heavens” clip)

Jack White is known for his guitar work, but when he plays with the band – The Dead Weather, he sits behind the drum kit.

(More “Hang You from the Heavens” clip)

The debut album from The Dead Weather was released on this date back in 2009.

I thought I had their first one too, but I have their most recent album on vinyl.

Need to hit the record store.

(“I Cut Like Buffalo” clip)

Need to “run” to the record store?

(video of Day #195)

By the way – not only is it National Mac & Cheese Day, it’s also National Nude Day – I really don’t think those go well together, which is why I chose NOT to go with that video theme.

5K EVERY DAY – Day #194

(“Coming Home” clip)

Last month, 10 years ago – the Coming Home album from Leon Bridges turned 10.

(“River” clip)

Back in 1989, Todd Michael Bridges was born in Atlanta, Georgia.

Today, Leon Bridges himself turns 36.

(“Better Man” clip)

Juuuuuussstt – one more comment about today’s date – I ran.

Wet Leg Sophomore Slump? Clipse Reunion! | New Music Weekend

New Music Weekend / Friday 07-11-25

(New Music Weekend Intro)

Who’s coming up! After more than a decade of radio silence, Clipse is back; then, Wet Leg – can they build on their initial success and deliver an album that’s smarter, sexier, and just as fun; plus, Justin Bieber has a new album? All this and more!

(Countdown Video)

New Music Weekend:

  • After an incredible 16-year hiatus, the wait is over (“Ace Trumpets” clip) the iconic hip-hop duo Clipse, composed of actual brothers – Pusha T and No Malice, have returned with their fourth studio album: Let God Sort Em Out (“All Things Considered” clip) That’s “All Things Considered” – a song which features the voice of Pharrell who also produces the track but he didn’t stop there. Pharrell produced the entire album. (“E.B.I.T.D.A” clip) Let’s get back to Pusha T and No Malice, while still doing their lyerical interplay amongst one another, the brothers explore themes of grief and family loss – notably on the powerful album opener ‘The Birds Don’t Sing.’ (clip of that song) 13 tracks in all for Let God Sort Em Out. And I have to admit, like many, I was really looking forward to “Chains & Whips” – the one featuring Kendrick Lamar (“Chains & Whips” clip). One last note – not only are the Clipse, the Clipse again, but for this album: No Malice is once again Malice.
  • (“Catch These Fists”) Moving along from the hip-hop world to the indie-rock scene, one of the most anticipated albums of the year has officially dropped. (more “Catch These Fists”) The album is titled Moisturizer – from a band that took home a grammy with their rookie album – we’re talking about Wet Leg. (“Wet Dream” clip) That’s “Wet Dream from their first album, but the unique and absurd “love song” wittiness continues with this new album, which also validates – no sophomoric slump (“Pillow Talk”) Wet Leg has not only expanded its members to a quintet but there’s a sense of maturation as well. The album has more emotional openness while still having the band’s deadpan charm. First track is always important to see if it sets the tone of the album and I fully believe “CPR” definitely does the job. (“CPR” clip)
  • Several quick hits of new music: Petey USA is back with his new album, The Yips – a concept album set in a fictional dive bar – each song is a different conversation about life’s anxieties. It’s fun, relatable, and produced by Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla!” // Well, the wait is over for the Beliebers! Justin Bieber made a surprise return, dropping his seventh studio album, Swag, with so little warning. It’s his first full-length project since 2021, and has a mix of R&B and pop sounds to go along with some very personal lyrics, reflecting on his journey as a husband and father. // Multi-GRAMMY and Academy Award winner Jon Batiste is kicking off his new era of sound. We may have to wait until August 22nd for the entire new album, BIG MONEY, to drop, but he did just gave us a little sip with the release of the title track. It’s a blend of soul, funk, and his signature New Orleans spirit, here’s that new song release – “Big Money” (clip) //

I put together a Spotify playlist of the songs that I talked about and thought about today for New Music Friday. Click here for that! Anything that I really messed up and missed – well, that’s why I’ll be doing Missed Music Monday on Monday.

Disco Demolition Chaos vs. My Calm 5K! 💥 (Nick Jonas Wisdom Day 193)

5K EVERY DAY – Day #193

(“Stayin Alive” Bee Gees)

“Disco Demolition Night” took place on this date back in 1979 at Comiskey Park. Between games of a doubleheader, the plan was to blow up a bunch of disco albums.

(“No Time To Talk” Jonas Brothers)

Who would ever join in on that today with their precious vinyl? Such a mess of a promotion, too. People stormed the field, 2nd game of the doubleheader had to be forfeited by the White Sox, and the field was a wreck because of that whole explosion!

Chaos – thankfully, that was not experience on my run this morning.

(Day #193)
